In May 2014, director Alvin Rakoff unearthed an audio recording of this play, which he had had made on its live broadcast, from his loft. Nothing else is known to exist of the performance.
Sean Connery was cast on the recommendation of Jacqueline Hill, who told the director, her husband Alvin Rakoff, he would be popular with female viewers.
Rakoff originally wanted Jack Palance to reprise his role as McClintock but his agent contacted him to tell him that a better role had become available and he didn't want to come to England.
Michael Caine has a very tiny role in this TV production. Both he and Sean Connery would appear together many years later in the feature film The Man Who Would Be King (1975).
