Mediocre and pointless viewing

Sex Tips for Girls is a documentary series about couples who need help in the "bedroom department". To improve their sexual techniques they get tips from experts and take courses.

This series is only mediocre. The tips offered are occasionally useful to viewers such as the oral sex techniques shown (for both men and women). The biggest downfall of the programme is instead of offering advice it merely serves as an excuse for people to discuss their sex lives in graphic detail. It is understandable why the people taking part would need to do this, to explain to the viewer as to why they need help but, the programme also features people who don't take part in the classes and serve as "talking heads". The stories they tell are frequently pointless and in some cases irrelevant. They add a light hearted humorous touch to the programme but are not necessary and in some cases they are quite off-putting and disgusting.

The other big minus point is it is not that educational, making the title misleading. As mentioned above it has some useful tips but not enough to make it a useful tool for couples. For anyone looking for a genuinely useful programme to improve their sexual technique I would recommend Five's A Girl's Guide to 21st Century Sex, which is very detailed (explicit) and educational.

The programme merely offers titillation and possibly a few cheap laughs. Anyone watching this programme to see sex and a lot of nudity will be disappointed. The most explicit thing abut the series is the frank sexual discussions. There is some nudity and sex but it is often brief and the most explicit shots are not shown. To make the programme worse it is not that well-made. The series is obviously professionally put together but there is no stylish cinematography, no amazing editing, no great graphics; quite simply nothing to make it stand out.

Summary: Sex Tips for Girls is OK viewing. It offers nothing special. the tips shown may be useful but the programme mainly shows people pointlessly discussing their sex lives. For people looking for a sex education style programme look elsewhere. Sex Tips for Girls proved surprisingly popular and a follow-up programme was made called: More Sex Tips for Girls. Both series also appeared on 4OD in 2007.
