The title is a lie

"the shark" yeah ok whatever. There are barely any sharks. That's not even the tension. The tension is between you and the remote as you argue with your roommate to keep playing it in the hopes that a shark will appear.

Oh Alicia
agm-7810831 May 2022
I watched the preview for this movie and I knew the CGI was going to be horrible. I was actually looking forward to a 'so bad it's good' movie. I thought I'd watch it with my wife and we could laugh and make fun of it together. It wasn't even good for that. And while I've always liked Alicia Silverstone, her never-ending shrieking in this movie was enough to give me a headache. This is terrible. Do yourself a favor and skip it.

Shark Terminator Warning: Spoilers
This girl killed man eating sharks like they're baby guppies. It's hilarious when she easily kills 2 sharks with just a piece of driftwood. Then she angers one enough to swim all the way up to the shore to gnaw at her leg, but she gets him too with a big fluffy piece of coral reef.

I FF through most of this because it wasn't nearly as interesting as Open Water was. And why was she wearing a form fitting girdle? When the monsoon happened she was sleeping in just her t shirt, but by the end with the shark fight, she's clearly wearing some kind of form fitting Spanx around her waist that she wasn't wearing earlier.

And even more absurd was the fisherman at the end. He was clearly a local who went out to fish in that little round boat a lot. You could tell by the way he had all his gear with him that he was an experienced fisherman, so he would know if there were sharks in the water and wouldn't have gone swimming in it.

Watch Open Water or Open Water 2 instead. Either one of those films are leagues above this awful mess. Alicia Silverstone deserves better than this---but I guess she needed a paycheck bad. She looked good though and seems to have avoided messing up her face with plastic surgery like many middle aged actresses do. She should be in better films than this though.

I'm sorry I doubted you
Chris_Mac_2525 April 2022
I read all your reviews, I thought you were exaggerating, it couldn't really be that bad????

I was wrong

So, so wrong

The CGI was as convincing as world peace

I'll never doubt your one star ratings again, I am a changed man from sitting through this abysmal offering

Forgive me

Wow Spoiler Alert NOT
glasimonix11 April 2022
The 3 minute long intro was better than the movie. What an atrocious movie, wish I could get that time back. The bad jokes and the terrible actors super cringey.

Incredible... Bad
yusufpiskin15 April 2022
The movie is so bad that just when you think that a worse scene cannot come, the worse is coming.

Alicia Silverstone is a very good actress, but she gave an absolutely terrible performance in this movie.

Clueless...
jeffmvines28 January 2022
Clueless.. to why they would make this movie, how they got the funds to produce it and who would agree to be part of the production? It's not as if there's a shortage or shark movies out there and there are a others way better than this.

Seriously, if you want to watch a good shark movie just re-watch Jaws. Released in 1975, it leaves this for dead. Even though in Jaws you hardly see the shark, it it has more suspense in the first 5 minutes than this movie has in the whole 90 minutes. If you want to see a couple trying to survive a shark attack movie, the watch the low budget (but more believable) Open Water.

I think the makers of this movie just discovered a little thing called the Green Screen. Not only did they over use it, they didn't really know how to use it. Terrible SFX, terrible movie.

0 stars
Ameliex28 January 2022
I wish we had the choice to give 0 stars.

I don't know where to begin.

I feel they had 10$ in budget to make this movie. They just selected random folks from the street to act. It was horrible and such a cringe-worthy movie.

I read the comments and a lot of people were saying don't waste your time watching this. I thought to myself, I will give this a chance. I should have listened to the folks that said don't watch this.

A total waste of time.

Now I say to you who read this, don't waste your time.

8.5 million dollar budget? I think not
maddiejameson7 June 2022
This movie had an 8.5 million dollar budget.

Someone definitely pocketed that money and kept it for themselves.

Absolutely horrible. Trust the reviews. The cgi was so incredibly bad. Jaws was made in 1975 and it is 1000x better than this. If you want a good movie about sharks go watch Jaws or 47 Meters down. Do not waste your time. The whole movie is just terrible.

Terrible
momcilo-korea28 January 2022
This is 100 % the worst movie of 2022 and its only January. I was watching and laughing how terrible everything was. Everything was bad. You name it - its bad. Alicia Silverstone couldn't act if her life depends on it. I was cheering for the shark the entire movie.

Why?
cb-643782 February 2022
Why does this movie is rated so low? I really don't know. I did like this one. Not the average shark-vehicle. OK there are a couple of scenes where I thought 'this is too much' but you can find scenes like that in every movie, even in the ones that has high ratings. Overall I liked it and that is all that counts for me.

Warning: Spoilers
Honestly they could have made this a great movie however I want to see how it end ... James Tupper always makes a good movie/tv series. Honestly I'm really disappointed in this movie ... even their tragedy could have been shown better.

I was thrilled about this movie until I saw it...

Warning: Spoilers
I came home from work excited to see this movie. I rented it on Apple TV and that was the start of the end. This has to be one of the worst movies I've ever seen. The CGI was below SYFY channel standard. The floating house on the ocean was the worst! It looked like a sticker was placed in the ocean that was hand drawn. The shark postered was nowhere near the sharks shown. They were sharknado worthy. As far as the movie goes what can be said. Alicia Silverstone was horrible, she was so bad a raspberry award would be an honor. The opening credits took 3 full minutes. No "shark" action until an hour in the movie. Someone owes my $6.99 or 1hr 30mins of time. Reason for the 2 stars is the drinks I made excited to watch this movie came out delicious!

Warning: Spoilers
I honestly don't know how I sat through this whole film. It was extremely terrible but for some reason I kept watching. The last 30 minutes was like visual torture. Some of it was so bad that I couldn't help myself from laughing. Like when she wakes up and finds her husband dead & his legs missing. That scene was was hilarious. Watching Alicia Silverstone spaz out was hysterical. I feel like that's exactly how she is in real life. Anyways, this is definitely not a film I'd put myself through again let alone recommend to anyone. 3 stars.

1st shark movie where I want the shark to win
patrickkeown6 February 2022
Bloody awful movie (literally). Stay far away from this cheap movie as much as possible. Alicia Silverstone is so whiny and annoying; I actually wanted her to get eaten!

Don't... Just don't.

You must have a life and this film is not worth sparing time from it.

Acting, logical progression, theme, plot, name it.. Everything seems so bad. If I could, I could have saved the shark from the movie.

What was that?
nogodnomasters31 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Jane (Alicia Silverstone) lost a baby and her husband Kyle (James Tupper) takes them on a getaway vacation in Vietnam during the off season. There is a lot of foreboding. Requin is the name of a shark (I looked it up. Who knew?). Relatives ask is a floating villa safe and there is a real bad storm coming. Need I say more?

The film doesn't offer anything new or exciting. It was pretty boring. Note to self: Don't set your raft on fire to attract aircraft. Once on dry land don't go back into the water.

Guide: Caught one quick F-word. No sex or nudity.

I rooted for the shark
crtjr-6503819 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
SPOILER ALERT: I love my shark horror thrillers despite many being cheesy and just plain bad... but this was the worst yet, bay far. I can see one maybe two mistake putting you in a bad position, but a string of 5, 6, 7, 8 bad choices that immediately places you directly in harms way, in the water with the sharks... and most seem to coincide with some nap. Even exhausted, who constantly sleeps with their life on the line? How many encounters will she endure before she waits til she's in a bed before she's comfortable enough to take a nap. The 2nd worst being on the beach, out of the water, twice only to take a nap and high tide places you back in the water and getting bitten, then getting out of the water again and onto the beach to climb a rock and literally jump back into the water. Nobody's that stupid! The worst, being in sight of a populated beach being seen, then laying back onto the raft in comfort only to be drifted back out to sea.

Very bad
pootc29 January 2022
It was clear from the beginning that the filmmakers didn't have the budget to make this movie which probably read decently on paper.

The special effects and cinematography are some of the worst I have seen in a long time. The constant cutting between visual effects and obvious stock footage is nauseating... and then there's the "acting" by the two leads which was atrocious.

There are so many things that just don't work here on a basic level. The movie is a total and utter disaster. The only thing keeping me from turning it off was my curiosity as to how bad can this really get.

The answer: Very.

Terrible
bodhi_7428 January 2022
Okay there will never be a shark film that even comes close to Jaws, but there has been some half decent efforts. This however is not one of them. The story, characters, acting, CGI and cinematography are all dire. I was actually annoyed that I wasted an hour & half on this, don't make the same mistake!

samwillis-8665830 January 2022
The acting was excellent. The story line very good. The special effects were very bad though. If the special effects and graphics were better, it would take this movie to another level!!

VIEWS ON FILM review of The Requin
burlesonjesse52 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Do we need another shark movie? Apparently Saban Films thinks so. That was their mindset when distributing 2022's The Requin. "Requin" is far from the worst shark endeavor and its hook is kind of original (no pun intended). A married couple purchases a bungalow only to have it drift out to sea by a hurricane. In the middle of nowhere with said bungalow almost destroyed, the spouses have to survive without food and water. Oh and there's toothed sharks looming and salivating.

The Requin stars Alicia Silverstone and James Tupper. They play helpmates Jaelyn and Kyle. It's a two-man/woman show and these two couldn't be more opposite in how they deal with turmoil. Tupper's Kyle has a heart rate that probably never reached sixty. He's one comatose bloke. Silverstone on the other hand, overacts to the point of method. Her screaming voice and voice in general, have many octaves. You might want to turn the volume down on your Flat-Screen or you might garner permanent hearing damage.

"Requin" is helmed by Vietnamese-born Le-Van Kiet. Le-Van's direction is standard as he ops for less gore and more distanced shots of the shark attacks. He fashions The Requin as a sort of 3 act play. The first act establishes the spousal characters one of which had a miscarriage and can't function normally. The second act involves the couple's vacation home being flooded by a storm thereby sending them out to sea (see first paragraph). The third act is well, you guessed it. The sharks don't look fake and that's a good thing. They come in when "Requin's" running time has about thirty minutes left (Kiet is no Hitchcock/Spielbergian clone but he gives it his best shot).

The Requin's opening credit sequence is probably its best asset. There's a sense of foreboding, a sense of anticipation, and the musical score is pretty darn good. Alas, "Requin's" great white premise never quite takes off from there. It's still another shark flick that does its darnedest to bleed into the genre. It's mutated with shards of The Shallows, Open Water, and All Is Lost (yes All Is Lost had selachian fishes too).

Worst CGI ever?
jhegre-128 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The CGI in this movie makes the Sharknado movies look pretty decent in comparison. I recommend watching this movie just to laugh at the comically bad CGI. It is so bad that it becomes pretty funny. Pieces of wood "floating" a few feet above the water surface. The rest of the movie is pretty crap too as expected, horrible acting, horrible script, horrible cinematography etc. But the CGI alone makes it worth a watch and a good laugh.

The one reason you shouldn't watch this movie
keywester-0533729 January 2022
I never score a movie below a 4, so a 2 is a scorching review. Actually, there's two reasons not to watch this .....ugghhh movie?

1. Alicia Silverstone's acting is TERRIBLE! I watched her freak out scenes and just general acting and she has totally lost the skill. Also, I know this is terrible but she looks washed up, not very pleasant to relate to her.

2. The CGI is seriously funny. I mean like sharknado funny. They are CLEARLY doing the lost at sea scenes in a pool and superimposed (poorly) onto the ocean. Really pieces of their raft stiffly float next to them while supposedly splashing around in the ocean. I was almost in tears it was so bad.

Finally, even my wife thought the whole thing was terrible and she likes everything.
