Malum is, according to its press release “a bold and expanded reimagining of the 2014 horror cult classic, Last Shift”. Now some may simply take that as a fancy way of saying it’s a remake of a film that’s less than ten years old. But there’s a difference between this and your average remake, it’s the work of the original director Anthony Diblasi and his co-writer Scott Poiley.
I considered revisiting Last Shift before watching Malum because while I remembered the basic plot and that I really liked the first hour then being let down by the final act, I didn’t recall a lot of the details. But, in part due to how knowing what to expect spoiled the impact of another recent reimagining,...

Lundgren directs and stars, alongside Kelsey Grammer, in an action movie about a Californian cop who clashes with a drug cartel while recovering from injury
With seven films under his belt since 2000, Dolph Lundgren has quietly amassed a sizeable directorial portfolio of B-movie action flicks but this Mexico border jaunt is less fun than his 2021 buddy flick Castle Falls. It’s also an appalling advert for the Californian police force, with the Dolphster taking the role of Travis Johansen, a racist patrolman caught roughing up the Latino citizenry; an interesting decision by his boss, then, to send him to “fucking Mexico” on a diplomatic mission to repatriate a pair of prostitutes who are potential key witnesses in the murder of some undercover DEA agents.
Things go south in all senses, and Johansen – laid up with a gut wound – has to convalesce with the family of Rosa (Christina Villa), one of...

The press release for Wanted Man describes writer/director/star Dolph Lundgren’s character like this, “Johansen is an ageing detective, whose outdated policing methods have given the department a recent public relations problem.” Those outdated methods include beating up a suspect while making what could be taken as racist remarks, all in full view of a news crew.
In case that isn’t enough to let us know what he thinks of his neighbours to the South, we get to see him hang out at a strip club with some buddies, including Brenner, Hilts and Tinelli trading comments about how disgusting Mexicans are. And to cap off the night, he has to be stopped from attacking another Mexican in the parking lot.
In light of this,...

Exclusive: Shout! Studios has acquired North American rights to Famm Films’ topical drama I’m Charlie Walker, starring Mike Colter, following a competitive bidding situation. Shout! Factory’s multi-platform entertainment distribution and production arm plans to release the film across all major entertainment platforms, beginning with a theatrical day-and-date launch later this year.
The film based on a true story picks up in 1971, as two oil tankers violently collide off the San Francisco coast, spilling millions of gallons of crude oil and creating an environmental disaster. Against all odds, trucking and construction entrepreneur Charlie Walker (Colter) is then able to secure one of the most lucrative contracts to clean the coastline threatening much of the San Francisco Bay, with only three trucks, an incredible work ethic and a whole lot of heart. Pic recounts the racial discrimination Walker endured as he tries to save the coastline,...

Writer/directors Chad Bruns and Zane Hershberger (10/31) let us know where Force to Fear is coming from right from the start with opening credits that look like they were lifted from an 80s VHS. And it is indeed an homage to the straight-to-video films of the era, but rather than a slavish copy of those films. Or worse yet, a generic B-movie with digital tape damage, they’ve added a couple of twists to the formula while still keeping everything feeling authentic.
Ryan sold some drugs to a woman who died of an overdose. That woman was Clint’s (Joseph Setticase; The 5th Dimension) wife Sarah which is why he’s now beating the shit out of Ryan in an abandoned school.

Castle Falls marks Dolph Lundgren’s first film as a director since he shot Icarus in 2010. It’s also his fifth teaming with co-star Scott Adkins. Toss in a plot that sounds slightly reminiscent of Walter Hill’s underrated 1992 film Trespass and you have a film with a lot of potential. The question is, can it live up to them?
Mike Wade is down on his luck. His career as a fighter is over, he can’t even make the cut for a local Mma event and he’s been evicted from his apartment. Now he’s living in his truck and working as a labourer on the demolition of Castle Heights Hospital. And then his luck turns around, he finds several bags full of money hidden in the abandoned building.

Dolph Lundgren made his name as a physically imposing '80s action hero, but he has been carving out a unique second career for himself, largely with roles in movies like "Aquaman" and "Creed II." And he's also taking an eye towards directing more, resulting in his most recent project, a heist/action flick titled "Castle Falls." This movie unites him with one of cinema's current premier action stars, Scott Adkins. While he may not be a household name, action aficionados are certainly familiar with his work, which ranges from "Accident Man" to smaller parts in major blockbusters like "Doctor...

At the age of 64 Dolph Lundgren remains as busy as ever, alternating between Hollywood mega-productions like Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and small-scale action movies like Castle Falls, which he produced, directed, and co-starred in (alongside Scott Adkins). Castle Falls, which opens December 3rd in theaters, on demand and digital, is a compact crime film in which millions of dollars are hidden in a derelict hospital slated for demolition. A prison guard (Lundgren), an ex-Mma fighter (Adkins) and a desperately violent gang converge on the crumbling edifice hoping to strike it rich before everything explodes. I spoke with Lundgren […]

Dolph Lundgren has been trying to return to the director’s chair since 2010, but his work in franchises like The Expendables, Creed and Aquaman have kept him plenty busy as an actor. He finally found a window of time to direct Castle Falls in March 2020, and after half a day’s worth of filming, production was shut down for seven months due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition to directing and producing, Lundgren leads the indie actioner alongside renowned martial artist Scott Adkins. The two action stars play desperate men who attempt to retrieve $3 million in cash from an abandoned ...

"Follow the guard, find the money." Shout Factory has released a trailer for Castle Falls, an action thriller directed by Swedish action star Dolph Lundgren. This is dropping on VOD in December just in time for the holidays! And remarkably it's not Lundgren's first film he has directed - he has a few others under his belt, including Dolph Lundgren Is the Killing Machine most recently in 2010. Castle Falls is about rival gangs trying to find millions of dollars hidden inside Castle Heights Hospital, which is filled with dynamite and scheduled to be demolished, but first they have to deal with the janitor who found the loot first. It just so happens that this guy is an ex-fighter. "The clock is ticking. Who will seize the cash... and will they get out alive?" Scott Adkins stars with Dolph Lundgren, plus Dave Halls, Kim DeLonghi, Kevin Wayne, Scott Hunter, Robert Berlin,...

The fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins by Alec Baldwin last week on the Santa Fe set of Rust wasn’t the first time First Assistant Director David Hills worked on a film where a weapon discharged unexpectedly.
Back in late 2019, a gun went off on the Arkansas set of Freedom’s Path, where Halls was an Ad. The incident caused a member of the Rocket Soul Studios-produced movie’s sound department to jump back from the close-by blast.
“First of all, our condolences go out to everyone affected by the recent tragic event in New Mexico,” said one of the producers of Freedom’s Path to Deadline today.
“I can confirm that Dave Halls was fired from the set of Freedom’s Path in 2019 after a crew member incurred a minor and temporary injury when a gun was unexpectedly discharged,” he added. “Halls was removed from set immediately after the prop gun discharged.
