Looks like this is it
preppycuber7 October 2022
Looks like this is the last of the Shetland series. I loved every season of it and all the main characters in it, especially Perez. Douglas Henshall plays it to perfection and can't find any fault in his portrayal of a seasoned police officer who has his personal struggles, but does not let those affect his performance.

I hope to see all of these actors in something new.

I agree with some of the reviewers that this one had lots of plot holes, but nothing that you can't ignore for the overall quality of the production, story and scenery, yes that too.

Hope they come up with something similar based in one of these beautiful places in Scotland.

What a great series - so sad it has come to the end
georgedyson-7419720 October 2022
I am going to make my comments about the series as a whole, not just series 7, as the arc of this series has been, to my mind, excellent. I shall miss this show very much.

Yes, the plot in series 7 was disjointed and it may not have been the best in the series, but the acting and the lead characters are just so well scripted and acted that i can over look much of this. I especially enjoyed Perez and 'Tosh', whom I really hope to see in future productions.

This is coupled with the setting in a place that perhaps few people have actually visited yet is so beautiful and haunting - coupled with such an excellent score.

Many seem to have thought this episode was less than great, but I have to disagree as it certainly held my attention and I found it difficult to 'solve' the murders ahead of time. So few clues! Yet the topic was one of current concern, and reflected the views of many, particularly young, people who are truly concerned with the future and the environment, even if they tend towards impractical solutions at times. While so may of us are just so complacent about the damage we are all doing to the planet and the high costs which will result in the future.

A truly great series!

Enough is enough

Warning: Spoilers
I can so relate to Jimmy Perez. Your spirit knows when you have no more in you to give. The job was literally sucking the life out of him. He is such a great actor that it felt so real.

The scene in the police station with all the goodbyes was so organic and heartfelt. Finally saw real emotion from Tosh. He was such a good mentor and father figure for her.

It was truly a perfect ending for him and Meg. I really wish he would stay on the show as a consultant to the police or something because it would be interesting to see him actually happy for a change. Hopefully married to Meg. Anyways lets hope season 8 has the Jimmy Perez magic.

They went to sea in a sieve
DoctorStrabismus16 September 2022
I quote Edward Lear, because this series, with its beautiful shots of the Shetland coastline, was indeed way out at sea, but in a sieve, absolutely all at sea, trying to somehow present a plot with even more holes in it than that kitchen device.

I actually lost count of the times I thought "surely not!" and "this is way too silly!"

And so we finally got to reach the very end of this rambling series, with as many scattered corpses as Midsomer. Absolutely everything appears to be predicated upon a whole swathe of utterly random and grossly unlikely coincidences, and all these improbabilities easily morphing into impossibilities. I think I need to list them one by one under 'goofs', but only if I can be bothered. I don't think I can.

We have very much enjoyed 'Shetland' in the past, but this, which looks like it will be the final series, just went way too far in the 'suspend disbelief' stakes.

The acting from the central characters was as good as ever, but it must have been very hard for them trying to work with this disaster zone of a plot.

Good acting, crap plot, makes 6/10, and that's for the whole series.

A really mediocre ending
grgpptss15 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Well this season was very promising. Although there were some pretty good twists going on through the multiple episodes, the finale was lackluster. The final twist that reveals the big murderer is the exact opposite from season 3. Instead of a twist that could be seen by viewers if they thought hard enough, it was a last minute twist revealing a motive at the last second about a character that we could really never guess because we had no background info. About the second murder however committed by Lloyd's wife Alison, this was perfect. I believe Allison should be the one to commit all the murders, this would make most sense, it would justify the body found in Lloyd's car while he was the only one with keys as Allison could easily get them and it would also justify the beginning scene of Allison with Bryd and Connor in the sea as she would be the perfect person to be in this eco terrorist group instead of that writer about whom we learned everything at last second. To sum up a very good season with really bad ending. Take notes from season 3 please for your next season which is one of the best seasons out there. The plot twist there was just jaw dropping, perfectly executed and the best aspect is that it could be seen if you thought hard enough and fully connected the dots. In this season everything about the plot twist was the exact different. You created something great in Season 3 that will remain in my mind as the best season in a mystery series, please do it again for season 8!!!

Just sad
neilsharp-0311511 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This was areal mystery to solve, the mystery being how this script was allowed to go ahead, it was truly awful, I can just about put up with Alison O'Donnell's acting being just a series of facial expressions, but what has been a good engrossing police drama set in stunning scenery, ends up in this drivel, to expect fans of the drama to accept this storyline after all these years in itself should be subject to a criminal investigation, I'm sorry if you want to say farewell to Jimmy Perez as a hardened police investigator, give us something believable. Anyone who has bought into this drama over the years deserves better.

Disappointed yet relieved
allisonjoys1 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The bad- An entire season with fleeting moments of Cass and Duncan. They deserved more if this was their end. The storyline was too American. They introduced words we normally didn't hear in the show and references to the US that were not in the spirit of the Shetland series I fell in love with. I prefer the two episode crimes instead of an entire season.

The good- I love that they changed Tosh's ponytail. Her former style was too juvenile for her job. And sometimes it was so messy I found it distracting. I'm kinda glad her pregnancy was skipped over and I'm happy that she had a girl.

Perez- I'm relieved that he's leaving. The actor that's playing him looks tired and aged this season. Perhaps that was done on purpose. I see the actress listed who might be taking over and I am SO excited. I love her!

Oh dear
pwb-594-57495726 September 2022
As others have said plot holes like a sieve. It must be the most unrealistic of all unrealistic cop shows in TV. I lost count of the number of times that I laughed out loud.

Laughable, and obvious who the 'crooks' were.

Slow. Even the so cool dramatic moments worth incredibly cliched.

Poor ending to a series that had some beautiful scenery and previously ok story lines.

I felt sorry for the actors. They were no doubt trying their best but it is impossible to to do a good job with a script and a storyline like that.

They could also have made a decent story about the oil industry and its links to to climate change but sadly that opportunity was competition missed.

You had me until this one thing
b_clerkin22 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I read all the books before the series came out. I was not happy with the casting of Jimmy Perez, as in the book as he is a dark haired person who looks Hispanic, not the Viking blonde of Douglas Henshaw. But that didn't bother me that much, as books rarely are translated well onto the screen and once an author signs the rights over to it she has no control over what happens. For the most part it was entertaining and always stunningly beautiful. And I enjoyed every season of it, until the last series and particularly this episode .

The ignorance about how the United States Justice system works is insulting to the intelligence of the viewers and to the author of the original books. Just because someone was a suspect in the murder of a police officer does not mean that if he gets extradited he will be sent right to the electric chair for execution. If they bothered to do the slightest bit of research, they would realize that there has to be an investigation, and a trial, appeals, etc. Based on the information provided, there is not a lot of evidence against Lloyd that would guarantee charges, let alone a death penalty sentence. This series deteriorated from an interesting and entertaining show, with well defined characters and plots into just another series of lectures on issues dear to the progressive mindset that permeates the entertainment industry. Allegedly, Henshaw had not planned to return for series 8, but his recent comments - which are not in line with this agenda- have assured that he would no longer be welcome had he changed his mind.

The series will continue, and there is speculation about who will step in to replace Henshall- they might recast Perez, but with this idiocy on top of last series' tribunal, it is not likely.

A new DI will probably come to Shetland. I suggest Rebus...that would be very entertaining indeed. Ah- even more entertaining than we thought! Agatha Raisin herself?! Will Ashley Jensen bring a lightness to this mostly serious show? Or will her character have a back story with sufficient drama and tragedy to fit in with the rest? I would not object to a few more humorous moments in the episodes, but to make it a lighter-hearted romp like Agatha Raison, Midsomer Murders, Brokenwood Mysteries, Queens of Mystery or the rest of the comforting pantheon of British TV sleuths would be a huge disservice to viewers and rather disrespectful of Ms. Cleaves genius.

Wtf?
dskala31 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The reason I stopped watching American shows and films is the crap they shove down our throats. If I see one more thing about climate crazies I'm going to jump off the roof of my car. It's gas by the way. Until China Russia and India do something nothing is going to work. Our country (US)is going broke between pacifying the climate idiots and our border. This show started out great until this season. I'm so sick of the politics in shows. This is why I love shows like Queens of Mystery, Death in Paradise, Shakespeare and Hathaway, and the new mystery Mrs. Sidhu Investigates. Those are really good and you are entertained not preached to, even Father Brown and Sister Boniface aren't that preachy. I'm still going to finish this because I did get this far but lower the climate stuff down a few degrees and remember, the Ice Age was climate change.

HA - I did a review of THIS episode but posted it in Season 7.1
Baltambre15 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This the review for Episode 6 of season 7

I started laughing after 2 minutes into this episode (Recap and Intro included) - And the more it became absolutely unrealistic the more I laughed, so definitely has to be recast as a comedy.

It's so conspicuous that Perez-Henshall gestalt only exists mainly for the camera only, and secondarily for his buddies cum actors, enemies cum actors, landscape cum Shetland, that calling this acting is an insult to the profession. He is SO concerned for humanity, the viewers, and probably even alien life, but first essentially for himself-playing-the-role-right-with-the-perfect-frown. The amount of coincidences is galactical, The fact that the special forces dedicated to antiterrorism have to rely on the local police force in "slow motion knowledge mode" for information as to which target might be next, is just so utterly absurd that I wonder how they could keep serious playing their parts (mostly getting out of cars, or getting back into it in full gears all the time, they must have slept in it)

But wait, I'm not done yet, at 18'40 something Perez morphs into James Bond! Yes, yes, yes! At this point I was waiting for Dr No, Blofeld, or any new omnipotent malevolent incarnation of "the evil forces of this world" to land into the show.

Writers!, I was extremely disappointed when they didn't come.

Anyway, one minute into the car chase Perez-Bond calls the "Centre" to let them know well, he's chasing the archvillain by himself alone, because really he is just Perez and sixty second of Bondesquitude is enough. They all come in numbers, lots and lots and lots of cars, don't know the brand though, you? And the chase ends up like a wet firecracker (pétard mouillé).

INTERLUDE - the sea is really really really beautiful - the waves, the wind, the green of the land, the peculiar colour of the ocean, fantastic - End of INTERLUDE.

So all of this ends up close to the cliff. I'm not going further in the description. Just one thing though, I did a screenshot of the very handsome eye of a special force sniper : green/hazelnut, very sweet, very sexy, huh, no sorry, rewind, very fierce and very determined.

2 stars for the super relaxing laughing effect 1 star for the magnificent landscape, I envy your fresh air guys!

For those of you who really liked it, I am deeply sorry, I don't wish to offend you. It just didn't work AT ALL for me.
