A new heavyweight is about to make a splash in the unscripted ring.
Canadian production-distribution powerhouse Blue Ant Media, the producers of “Canada’s Drag Race,” has acquired “Blown Away” outfit MarbleMedia — a deal that merges two of Canada’s most global-facing industry players.
The acquisition sees Toronto-headquartered Blue Ant Media merge its production and distribution operations with MarbleMedia into one studio and rights business. Blue Ant Media boss Michael MacMillan, the former CEO of Alliance Atlantis, tells Variety that discussions have taken place for around a year. “Neither company needed to do this,” he says, “but it seemed like a really smart idea for us all.”

She looks like Linda Evangelista. She’s a model. And now, Valentina is the cohost of “Drag Race Mexico” alongside global superstar Lolita Banana.
The announcement was made Friday on the main stage of DragCon LA, the world’s largest annual drag convention.
Valentina rose to fame during Season 9 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” The judges were enamored with her beauty and style, but her run ended after she famously protested taking off her facemask during her elimination lip-sync against Nina Bonina Brown, placing seventh.
She would later compete in “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 4,” also finishing seventh. She’s appeared in her own Wow Presents Plus series and modeled in several fashion magazines, including Vogue Mexico, and appeared in Fox’s live musical “Rent.”

The LALAPaRuZa lip sync smackdown has become one of RuPaul’s Drag Race‘s most iconic challenges, as queens compete against each other in jaw-dropping lip syncs to keep their spot in the competition. Season 15 of Drag Race had a larger-than-life LALAPaRuZa, with queens performing to songs such as Anitta‘s “Boys Don’t Cry” and Joan Jett’s “Do You Wanna Touch Me.” Some of the songs in the lip sync tournament have been used on Drag Race in the past.

Brooke Lynn Hytes is an incredibly talented drag queen who acts as a host and judge on Canada’s Drag Race. It’s a spinoff to the popular RuPaul’s Drag Race, but RuPaul himself doesn’t appear as the usual face at the center of it. Brooke Lynn owns hosting and judging, but she isn’t alone in doing so. How much power does she actually have when it comes to telling a queen to “sashay away?”

Before Canada’s Drag Race ever aired, Brooke Lynn starred on RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 11. She demonstrated charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent in spades, ultimately making it to the finale. Brooke Lynn impressed RuPaul and television audiences worldwide with her polished looks, tremendous lip-syncing talents, and top-notch makeup. However, she lost the final lip sync against Yvie Oddly, who took home the crown.

RuPaul’s Drag Race acting challenges were a significant part of the reality television competition show’s early days. They continue to hold an important place on the show, allowing the drag queen contestants to demonstrate their performance skills in a unique way. Shared via an Instagram post on Thursday, “RuPaul’s Drag Race” announced that it will return to airing 90-minute episodes beginning March 10. The Emmy winning competition series made its big jump to MTV in January and shocked and outraged its loyal fanbase with a new 60-minute format when the third episode aired on January 13. Also in a break from tradition, the sister series “Untucked” did not immediately follow the episode and instead aired a full hour after Rpdr’s conclusion.
MTV’s trimming of the “RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 15 episode length is perceived to have made room for its new series “The Real Friends of Weho,” starring “Canada’s Drag Race” host and judge Brad Goreski. That series premiered on January 20 following the fourth episode of Rpdr. It’s been airing in the 9 pm slot that had been previously occupied by the additional 30 minutes of Rpdr and “Untucked” when the show aired on VH1.

Damian Terriquez (All Rise) and Kaleb Horn (Hardy Boys) have been cast in key recurring roles opposite Miss Benny and Kim Cattrall in Netflix drama series Glamorous, from Jordon Nardino (Star Trek: Discovery) and Damon Wayans Jr.
Glamorous, which originally had been ordered to pilot at The CW in 2019, tells the story of Marco Mejia, played by Miss Benny, a young gender non-conforming queer man whose life seems to be stuck in place until he lands a job working for legendary makeup mogul Madolyn Addison (Cattrall). It’s Marco’s first chance to figure out what he wants out of life, who he actually is, and what it really means for him to be queer.
Terriquez will recur as Dizmal, a Bushwick fixture and drag performer who welcomes Marco (Benny) to the world of Brooklyn nightlife; while Horn will portray Nowhere, Glamorous by Madolyn’s (Cattrall) marketing assistant.

I don’t think it’s a particularly well-kept secret but I am a massive fan of all things Ru Paul’s Drag Race! I honestly become overcome with excitement whenever a new season is announced but I have to admit that I am not watching as many of the international franchises as I would like to due to the sheer volume of them. Right now, for example, there are four separate iterations of the show running simultaneously. While I don’t have an issue with the volume of Drag Race seasons, I think it is the frequency that stops me from being able to watch as many of the shows as I would have liked to! With the four seasons airing at the same time this would mean that over half the evening every week would be taken up with some form of drag show which is totally not viable for me!

The official Twitter account for Canada’s Drag Race had to hastily delete an unfortunately timed tweet amid news of the Queen’s death.
On Thursday (8 August), Queen Elizabeth II died peacefully in Balmoral at the age of 96.
Earlier in the day, when reports of the Queen’s ill health were circulating in the news, Canada’s Drag Race (the Canadian version of the popular RuPaul’s Drag Race TV franchise) issued a promotional tweet teasing its season finale.
“Happy #CanadasDragRace Finale Day,” it read. “The crown is up for grabs... who is going to take it home?”
Alongside the text, the show shared an image of a crown.
The message, which was most likely composed and scheduled long before news of the Queen’s status had broken, was promptly deleted – but not before people managed to screenshot evidence of its existance.
“Possibly an all-time deleted tweet,” wrote Huffington Post’s Philip Lewis,...

There’s no date set for when “Canada’s Drag Race” Season 2 will premiere, but last month fans got more news about the judges’ panel shakeup that’s been in flux since March. Two judges are out and three new ones have been named.
Season 1 saw “RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 11 runner-up Brooke Lynn Hytes, actor Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman and model Stacey McKenzie judging the 12 competing queens. In March, Jeffrey announced he wouldn’t be returning to the show, and in late June Stacey followed his lead. That left Brooke Lynn as the sole returning judge from Season 1.
The three new judges joining Brooke Lynn are actress Amanda Brugel, fashion stylist Brad Goreski and broadcaster Traci Melchor. Brooke Lynn, known as Brock Edward Hayhoe when not in drag, is a gay man, as is Brad. Both Amanda and Traci are straight women. The 50-50 split between gay men and straight women leaves zero...

The Disney Plus “Doogie Howser” reboot, “Doogie Kameāloha, M.D.,” has cast Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman in a series regular role, Variety has learned exclusively.
Bowyer-Chapman joins previously announced cast members Peyton Elizabeth Lee and Kathleen Rose Perkins. The rebooted series will focus on Lahela “Doogie” Kameāloha (Lee), a mixed race 16-year-old girl who works as a doctor in Hawaii. The 10-episode half-hour comedy follows Kameāloha as she juggles a budding medical career and life as a teenager. Guiding Lahela (and also complicating things) is her family, including her spit-fire Irish mother (Perkins) who’s also her supervisor at the hospital, and her Hawaiian “Local Boy” father struggling to accept that his daughter is no longer his little girl.
Bowyer-Chapmen stars as Charles, a Midwest transplant to the islands. He is a fellow resident at the hospital where Lahela works and is part of the cool adult world that looks so awesome to her.

After one season of “Canada’s Drag Race,” we’re all feeling “true north strong and fierce,” right? The “RuPaul’s Drag Race” franchise branched out this summer for its first season in Canada, featuring a cast of some of the country’s most established queens and some of its freshest. Judging duties were shared between Canadian model Stacey McKenzie, Canadian television star Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman and Rpdr season 11 runner-up Brooke Lynn Hytes. The season came to a close Thursday night in a season finale to decide if Canada’s first drag superstar would be Rita Baga, Priyanka or Scarlett BoBo.
In last week’s penultimate episode, the final four walked three different categories in the event of the season, “The Snow Ball.” After strutting down the runway in categories Executive Holiday Party Realness, Icy Walk of Shame, and Ice Queen Eleganza, Scarlett was declared the challenge winner for the first time this season,...

Friendly warning: We’re about to spoil Thursday’s episode of Canada’s Drag Race. If you haven’t watched, sashay over to Wow Presents Plus. Then we’ll talk.
From Season 12 and All Stars 5 to Vegas Revue and that “secret” celebrity edition, the Drag Race franchise has been a consistent bright spot in these trying quaran-times. But the competition’s first-ever Canadian adaptation has proven to be a particularly unexpected delight, and after spending just 10 weeks up north, we’re not ready for the race to end.

In last week’s seventh episode, the six remaining queens took part in the first ever Rpdr pageant, “Miss Loose Jaw.” Though no one was officially crowned queen of the pageant itself, Lemon did come out on top overall for the week, making her the second multiple-week winner after Rita Baga (who has three wins). At the bottom was Priyanka and Ilona Verley who battled it out in the lip sync. Once again Priyanka proved that she’s a lip sync assassin and knocked Ilona out of the competition. It’s lucky 13 for “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”
VH1 has renewed the Emmy-winning reality competition series for a 13th season, the network announced on Thursday. “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” was also renewed for a sixth season, and the unstructured after-show “Untucked” — which depicts the backstage conversations between contestants during judge deliberations — was renewed for the flagship series and “All Stars.”
“Drag queens have been on the frontlines of many challenging times in our history,” said host and executive producer RuPaul in a statement. “‘RuPaul’s Drag Race 13,’ ‘All Stars 6’ and new seasons of ‘Untucked’ will offer more opportunities for our queens to rise to the occasion and spread the love.”
The renewal comes as no surprise, given that the “Drag Race” franchise has arguably never been stronger. Season 12 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” was the highest rated season in the show’s history — sorry, herstory — and it was recently nominated for best reality competition series.

In last week’s sixth episode, the seven remaining queens divided into three groups for an acting challenge where they spoofed late night law firm commercials. In the end, Rita Baga earned her third overall win, making her a clear frontrunner as the field of queens narrowed. In the bottom two were Ilona Verley and Boa, and after a rather reserved lip sync Ilona squeaked out another win, securing her safety and eliminating Boa in the process.

In last week’s fifth episode, the eight remaining queens earned their drag stripes in the legendary “Snatch Game” challenge. After two previous high placements, Jimbo finally earned herself a maxi challenge win with her portrayal of Joan Rivers in the game and with a stunning runway look in the “Night of a Thousand Celines” category. Stumbling with their character depictions were Priyanka as Miss Cleo and Kiara as Mariah Carey, the latter of which lost to Priyanka in a fiercely fought best-of-all-time lip sync battle.

In last week’s fourth episode, the nine remaining queens split into three fashion houses to create a 3-look collection of looks using recyclable materials. Rita Baga became the first two-time challenge winner, leading her group to victory with their made-from-plastic creations. On the losing side was Team Paper, with Tynomi Banks and Ilona Verley declared the bottom two of the week. Despite Ilona’s dramatic overreaction and not wanting to go head-to-head against her friend, Tynomi’s third straight trip to the lip sync was one too many and the judges had no choice but to send her home.
