Though she first made a big pop culture splash as one of the new "American Gladiators" on NBC, mixed martial artist Gina Carano has become an impressive action starlet in films like Haywire and Fast & Furious 6. Now she's on her own again with In the Blood, another action thriller which sees Carano playing a trained fighter with a dark past. Suddenly, she finds herself caught up in a conspiracy on a tropical island when her husband vanishes on their honeymoon. And so, Carano is off to bust skulls, find her husband, and figure out just what is going on. It doesn't look very good, but Carano kicks ass. Watch below! Here's the first trailer for John Stockwell's In the Blood, originally from Apple: In the Blood is directed by John Stockwell (Blue Crush, Dark Tide) and written by James Robert Johnson & Bennett Yellin (Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead). The hunt is on for a good werewolf movie. Again.
Universal Pictures built their foundation on the classic, black and white monster movies like 1931's Dracula and 1941's The Wolf Man, and, after successfully rebooting The Mummy and turning it into a franchise, the studio tried again with The Wolfman in 2010 with less successful results. Mired in production issues, including director Joe Johnston (Captain America: The First Avenger) stepping in to helm with only three weeks left before shooting began, The Wolfman failed to earn back its $150 million budget. The studio's response? Rebooting the reboot with Werewolf: The Beast Among Us, which has now quietly arrived on DVD and Blu-Ray.
The plot is fairly simple: a 19th Century European village is being terrorized by a werewolf and a doctor's apprentice (Guy Wilson) joins a team of werewolf hunters (Ed Quinn, Steven Bauer, and Adam Croasdell) to bring down the, well,...

Danny Trejo and Avatar’s Stephen Lang are both in negotiations to sign on for the action thriller In the Blood, being directed by John Stockwell.
Designed as a vehicle for former Mma middleweight champ Gina Carano, Blood centers on a woman whose husband vanished while they were vacationing in the Caribbean.
Trejo will play the main villain, Big Biz, while Lang will be seen as the protagonist’s father/mentor who trained her to be skillfully self-sufficient and brutally tough.
The script is penned by James Robert Johnston and Bennett Yellin (Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead) which was polished by Sean Finnegan and Gregg Parker.
Stockwell, which all movies starring attractive ladies in tropical locations and settings, earlier said:
This role will showcase not only Gina’s fighting skills, but also her acting abilities as her character struggles to reign in her violent past.

Although Steven Soderbergh's Haywire has essentially bombed at the box office, earning $18 million on a $23 million budget, it looks like Gina Carano may still have a career ahead of her as an movie star, albeit not an A-list one. The former Mma fighter will be receiving the inaugural Chick Norris Award at this year's ActionFest for Best Female Action Star of the year, and now it has been announced that she will also be starring in a new movie for director John Stockwell (Blue Crush). The movie is called In the Blood, and it is described as an action-thriller in the vein of Taken. The plot synopsis is as follows: "Blood is set in motion when a husband disappears while vacationing in the Caribbean with his wife, to be played by Carano. The grieving wife passionately and recklessly pursues the men whom she believes kidnapped and killed him." The...

Much of Haywire’s strength lied withing Gina Carano’s ability to kick the male cast’s ass. Carano’s acting ability was another issue. So while the movie itself couldn’t be as explosive at the box office as Carano’s fighting, the actress will get another chance to throw some punches in a new actioner titled In the Blood. The movie will follow Carano’s character a wife, who sets out to find her husband, when he is kidnapped by pirates while the two are vacationing.
The movie seems to be in the same vein of Taken, but rather than have Liam Neeson take the lead its Gina Carano who takes the generally male dominated role of kicking ass. Which is perfectly okay by me. According to THR, John Stockwell (Into the Blue, Blue Crush) will direct Into the Blood, using a script by Bennett Yellin and James Robert Johnston...

Steven Soderbergh‘s latest film Haywire marked a high point for January release, a slick action thriller oozing with style. Audiences didn’t quite connect with it though, as it been crawling to the $20 million mark domestically. Featuring a break-out performance from Mma fighter Gina Carano, I’ve been waiting to hear what she would jump onto next. THR has the details and it is no surprise she’ll be sticking with the same genre.
With a steep decline in directorial quality she has joined the latest film from Into the Blue and Blue Crush director John Stockwell. Titled In the Blood, the film being compared to Taken, follows a husband who vanishes while on a Caribbean vacation. Carano plays the wife who goes on a mission to get him back. While audiences may not have flocked to it (their loss), Gina Carano proved in "Haywire" that she could be a compelling on-screen presence and one helluva of an action leading lady, a nice place to be, particularly when the industry has so few women in that role. And while we're unlikely to get any further adventures involving Mallory Kane, Carano has been recruited to crack some more skulls. The Mma fighter will continue her movie career by starring in the action thriller "In The Blood." Penned by Bennett Yellin and James Robert Johnston (the pair who brought you "Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead"), the story is said to be in the vein of "Taken" (of course), and will follow a woman who is vacationing in the Caribbean with her husband, when he suddenly disappears. She then goes on the warpath seeking vengeance against the men who she belives kidnapped and killed him.

Back in July it was announced that Universal had hired Louis Morneau to direct the Untitled Werewolf Thriller that was reworked from the planned sequel to 2010's The Wolf Man. As I noted in my write-up, Morneau isn't generally known for making movies that are released in theaters, rather spending most of his career making direct-to-dvd titles like Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead and The Hitcher II : I.ve Been Waiting. Hence why the newest report about the project isn't all that surprising. Universal has sent out a press release about the new movie - which still doesn't have an official title - announcing the start of production, and has revealed that the film won't be making its way to theaters and, instead, will be making its debut on home video. The news also includes a full cast list, which includes names like Stephen Rea (V for Vendetta, The Crying Game...

Back in June it was first rumored Universal was looking to re-write and rework Michael Tabb's would-be sequel to the failed 2010 effort The Wolfman starring Benicio del Toro and directed by Joe Johnston into a new werewolf franchise. A month later, Moviehole reported Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead, The Hitcher: I've Been Waiting and Carnosaur 2 helmer Louis Morneau would direct for a fall shoot. Now, it has become a reality as Universal announced the start of production on what they describe as an "all-new supernatural Untitled Werewolf Thriller" with Morneau directing. Filming will take place in and around Bucharest, Romania and the film won't be heading to theaters as the studio confirms it will be part of their DVD Originals line alongside such titles as The Scorpion King: Rise of a Warrior and the upcoming January release of [amazon asin="B005TK0WG8" text="The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption"] starring Ron Perlman and Billy Zane. This summer we started to hear rumblings that Universal was prepping a new Wolfman movie [1], and that this might essentially be a reboot of the character, and one that acts like the recent The Wolfman, starring Benicio Del Toro, didn't happen. Those reports were partially correct. Roger Corman veteran Louis Morneau (Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead; The Hitcher II: I’ve Been Waiting; Bats), tipped as the director for this project [2] a few months back, started production today on a film called, for now, Untitled Werewolf Thriller. Stephen Rea, Steven Bauer, Ed Quinn, Nia Peeples, Guy Wilson, Adam Croasdell and Rachel Dipillo are in the cast. But this won't be a theatrical release; this one is a Blu-ray and DVD-only affair that will arrive in time for Halloween 2012. Here's a big chunk o' press release to give you many of the details: There’s no safe place to hide as...

We heard last month that Universal was planning to reboot The Wolfman, after Joe Johnston‘s take on the character was widely seen as a disappointment. Written by Michael Tabb, the new take on the character would be more in line with the original movie from 1941, acting as a sequel to that film, and (rightfully) disregarding last year’s effort.
Moviehole (via FirstShowing) now say that both a director and title have been decided upon. First off, I’m a little curious if this is actually a reboot or sequel, as some are now reporting that this is a standalone project. I imagine they’re still going the reboot route, but that’s more of a guess than anything else. The movie will be called Werewolf, and that’s a fine enough title, if only because it tells you a) that the movie’s about a werewolf, and b) this...

Who knows what ‘The Wolfman’ would have been if director Mark Romanek had stayed as director. Joe Johnston’s film was a bit of a mess and performed badly at the box-office, whilst Romanek went on to direct the brilliant ‘Never Let me Go’. So no sequel for ‘The Wolfman’ but Universal recently announced that they wanted to reboot the franchise with the new title of ‘Werewolf’. It’s simple and catchy, who better to direct it then than Louis Morneau, the auteur behind another one word creature feature, ‘Bats’.
What, you haven’t heard of it? Surely then you must have seen his other classics ‘Carnosaur 2′, ‘Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead’ and ‘The Hitcher 2: I’ve Been Waiting’. What, none of them? And you call yourself a movie buff.

The last time we heard about Universal's future plans for The Wolfman, the report was that the studio is essentially planning to pretend the 2010 film by Joe Johnston (who stepped in at the last minute) never existed. A new film called Werewolf, written by Michael Tabb, is supposedly the angle Universal will take to further exploit the classic horror property. And now the film might have a director: Louis Morneau. It's possible that the name, reported by Moviehole [1], means nothing to you. I can't say it meant anything to me. That's because I haven't seen Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead (his last film, from 2008) or The Hitcher II: I've Been Waiting, or Bats, Soldier Boyz or Carnosaur 2. Ok, wait, I have seen Carnosaur 2, but can't tell you enough about the 1995 film to be of any use now. Morneau came out of the Roger Corman machine, and that doesn't...

It was recently reported that Universal Pictures was in development on a reboot of Joe Johnston's "The Wolfman" and has hired Michael Tabb (Ring Around the Rosie) to write the script for a stand-alone picture. Moviehole has now learned that the new movie, called "Werewolf," has hired Louis Morneau to direct. Morneau's previous credits include "Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead," "The Hitcher II: I've Been Waiting" and "Bats." Judging by those credits, it's clear that the studio is not planning to release the film in theaters. Instead, it will go straight to DVD, like most of the other projects Morneau has been involved with.

Early last month a report came out saying that the planned sequel to the disastrous The Wolf Man was being remolded and re-imagined as a separate entity possibly called Werewolf. The story also said that Universal was fast-tracking the project and actively looking for a director to helm the project. Now it seems that their search has ended. MovieHole has learned that filmmaker Louis Morneau has been hired to helm the new lycanthrope movie for the studio. If the name doesn't ring a bell, it's likely because you don't spend a lot of your time watching B-grade horror movies. Morneau's previous credits include direct-to-dvd sequels Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead and The Hitcher II : I.ve Been Waiting, as well as the Lou Diamond Phillips-starring thriller Bats and the Jim Belushi-starring time-travel movie Retroactive. So Universal Pictures doesn't want anything to do with a sequel for their ill-performing recent film of theirs called "The Wolfman," but instead they're moving ahead on "Werewolf." They just got their hands on Louis Morneau who is locked in to direct their upcoming horror picture. Morneau's previous directed works include "Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead," "Bet Your Life" and "The Hitcher II: I've Been Waiting.""Werewolf" is anything but a sequel and is actually said to be sharing similar ties with the 1941 film "The Wolf Man." The script, penned by Michael Tabb, was originally written for a potential "Wolfman" sequel. Now that "The Wolfman" sequel isn't happening, the script is going through all sorts of rewrites. After dealing with the unfortunate disaster that was the 2009 "Wolfman" film, do you think that they should still be charging on ahead with yet another werewolf movie?Source: MovieHole.net...

Since Universal's attempt to revive the classic movie monster Wolfman pretty much fell flat on its face, the studio has since wisely decided against a sequel. However, still interested in keeping the moonlighting monster alive in pop culture, Universal is instead crafting another remake of the classic monster movie, but this time with the title of Werewolf. Moviehole also reports that Louis Morneau, the man behind horror sequels like Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead, The Hitcher: I've Been Waiting, Carnosaur 2, and Bats starring Lou Diamond Phillips, will be at the helm of this new remake working from a script by Michael Tabb. Apparently this project will have some sort of link to the original George Waggner film from 1941, so this may be like a pseudo-sequel/reboot rather than a straight-up remake. The plan is to have the film ready for production in the fall and casting will begin very soon.

Dean Francis' Australian spin on highway terror, Road Train , went into production last year. It's currently in post-production and Lightning Entertainment brought a spiffy trailer and promo poster to the American Film Market this week. The film looks to break the norm, becoming less about a deranged driver and more about a supernatural truck (the titular vehicle). Like the fools in Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead , I'm not sure who in their right mind would steal a truck clearly evil or belonging to an evil person, though. Furthermore, I hope they explain how one of the protagonists learned how to drive a big rig so effortlessly. Four young friends on a camping adventure in outback Australia are run off the road by an erratically driven road train - a massive three-trailer truck....

Since it has been a sloooooow news week so far (Unless you count the 400th Zombieland clip to have hit the web today. I swear you could watch that entire movie online with all the clips and trailers that they have released) here is a fun video I found on the Interwebs. FourFour.com made a montage "of contemporary horror and suspense cinema's go-to roadblock, non-working cell phones." Basically 66 scenes of people in horror films not being able to get service on their cell phone so they can't call for help. A little hurdle horror filmmakers have to always pretty much leap these days. I don't know if it is worthy of watching all five minutes, but it is a fun compilation of some great and not-so-great horror films including, Jeepers Creepers 2, The Mist, The Ruins and Joy Ride: Dead Ahead.
