Lumet: Film Maker (1975)
*** 1/2 (out of 4)
This promotional short was shot on the set of DOG DAY AFTERNOON and shows director Sidney Lumet doing his job. The fun thing about this short is that it gives us several shots of Lumet directing the movie and apparently losing his cool at one point when some extras aren't paying attention when he tells them to put their guns away. There are some interviews with a couple people working on the crew and they all tell what it's like working on a Lumet film including one guy who was also working with the director on 12 ANGRY MEN. It's always fun watching these promotional pieces because they're usually trying to explain why people should go see the movie in question. That really doesn't happen here as there's not too much talk about what the movie is. Instead we just focus on Lumet, his way of doing things so fans of his are going to get a kick out of this.
