Ken Marino (Childrens Hospital) is starring in Yahoo's latest original: mock-reality series Burning Love, which is slated to premiere on the Yahoo! Comedy Channel June 4th. One part The Bachelor, one part Horrible People, Burning Love follows hunky fireman Mark Orlando (Marino) in his search for the perfect partner in a faux elimination-style reality show. Teeming with irony, Burning Love features all the accoutrements you'd expect from a network reality series: from champagne toasts, candles, heartbreak, bubble baths, chocolate, choreography, hair extensions, roller skating, betrayal, and spray-tans. "Mark Orlando is used to feeling the heat of fire," says the narrator in the series trailer. "But now he's looking for someone to ignite the flames of love." The trailer features Ben Stiller, the series' executive producer along with fellow Red Hour producers Stuart Cornfeld and Mike Rosenstein, as well as Abominable Pictures’ Jonathan Stern, Marino, and Erica Oyama. The series will...

Yahoo! isn’t the only online video destination building a studio in New York City. The home of original web series hits such as Time Magazine’s favorite You Suck at Photoshop, David Wain’s Wainy Days, A.D. Miles’ Horrible People, Josh Gad’s Gigi, and Mary Lynn Rajskub’s Dicki is constructing digs in which it will film a shiny new slate of online programming. Once complete, the My Damn Channel Studio at the Film Center Building in Manhattan’s Hell’s Kitchen will be home to the upcoming My Damn Channel production of My Damn Channel: Live. The program is one of YouTube’s chosen original channels and will consist of daily 10-minute interactive broadcasts in addition to one full 30-minute installment per week. If that shooting schedule sounds ambitious, that’s because it is. A check from YouTube helps to cover the production costs, but you still...

In the spring of 2010, LG Electronics hoped to revive the classic soap opera model. The third largest mobile phone manufacturer's overly dramatic daytime series, The Young and the Connected was to air on a major Us network, showcasing how unbelievably attractive and incredibly privileged 20-somethings incorporate internet-enabled mobile devices into their lives. But, two days before filming, the network axed the production. LG was left with just enough footage to cobble together a web series that could be broadcast online and in between programs on a major UK network. At least that's how the fake press release reads. In reality, there never was any television production. UK creative agency, Rkcr/Y&R specifically created The Young and the Connected to live on YouTube and run as a series of idents for LG on the UK's channel 4. Directed by Sam Cadman at Rogue Films, the series is meant to show 16 to...

When HBO first threw some cash—a few million—into Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and and Chris Henchy's web comedy upstart Funny or Die back in mid 2008, the signs of something more than Landlord re-runs and user-submitted prank videos were in store. The seedlings of a broader comedy enterprise were sown, one that attracted that unique alchemy of Silicon Valley—blue-chip Vc firm Sequoia Captial is their primary investor—and the Hollywood entertainment establishment in a way no other web video startup has managed to mimic. Now the fruit HBO deal is finally starting to appear. This Friday (February 19) at Midnight marks the debut of the 12-episode half-hour comedy series Funny or Die Presents on HBO. The series itself is a series of web series—re-shot for television—in individual segments ranging from 1 to 15 minutes a piece. Many of those segments are well known by web series junkies, with...

Rob Corddry's popular comedy web series Childrens' Hospital looks to be heading to cable network Adult Swim next year, according to remarks made by Warner Bros.’ CEO Barry Meyer today at Broadcasting & Cable/Multichannel News OnScreen Media Summit in New York. The series was nominated for a multiple Streamy Awards back in March, including Best Comedy Web Series, Best Female Actor in a web series for Megan Mullally and Corddry for Best Male Actor. After talks reportedly broke down between Warner Brothers and Comedy Central, Adult Swim, which shares channel space with Cartoon Network, made an offer to pick up the absurd comedy for the spring season. Rob Corddry produced the series along with friends David Wain (star and creator of Wainy Days) and Jonathan Stern (producer of Horrible People, and Wainy Days). Babelgum has been stepping further into the web television waters lately, adding two notable comedy web series to its catalog in a distribution deal for A.D. Miles' comedy Horrible People and Fun Little Movies' dating comedy Turbo Dates. This comes fresh off the heels of the site's recent signing of Hayden Black's Goodnight Burbank for a fresh 20-episode run. Either way, Babelgum and Fun Little Movies sound like they are going to be teamed up for a while. Turbo Dates has already shot a second season, Chindamo tells us, with guest stars including Elisa Donovan of Clueless, Len Lesser of Seinfeld, Todd Grinnell of Desperate Housewives amongst others. Babelgum is said to be "very interested in licensing those new episodes." Flm also has a 22-episode series called Mr. Wrong that it is planning on releasing via Bablegum as well. Everyone remembers the opening scene from Guns N Roses’ Welcome to the Jungle video, right? Axl gets off the bus from Nowhereville, U.S.A., and is thrust onto seedy Hollywood Boulevard for the first time. Did you ever wonder what happened to innocent Axl between getting off the bus and becoming L.A. rocker Axl? Oh. Maybe only I did. Music videos were just a few minutes long and generally lacked sufficient plot development. Anyway, if Axl was a chick, Welcome to the Jungle was a comedy, and there was time for a storyline, it would be Atom’s Hot Sluts. (Also, this Hot Sluts chick would have slept with any of the guys from Poison instead of Axl. Axl was too hardcore for her - even fresh off the bus Axl. But I digress…) Created by A.D. Miles (Head Writer of Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, frequent performer...

Rob has worked with some damn talented people like Jimmy Kimmel, Adam Corolla, and countless others, and now Sam Seder. On April 20, Sam Seder’s original web series Pilot Season premieres on My Damn Channel. The show originally aired in 2004 on the now defunct Trio network. You probably know A.D. Miles from Reno 911, Dog Bites Man, Wainy Days, Wet Hot American Summer or his very successful internationally known online web series, Horrible People. The web series was embraced by an international base of true soap fans and the comedy community as well. Thirteen web episodes were translated into just about every major language in existence and was oddly popular in France, go figure. At one point it was the “#2 most viewed entertainment video” on the internet. With over 1.7 million (and counting) views Horrible People has shown the world that A.D. Miles knows what hungry web audiences want, and how to give it to them. If you haven’t seen Horrible People, I’m jealous of you because you get to go to www.mydamnchannel.com right now and watch it from beginning to end. Needless to say I am thrilled to death to hear that A.D. Miles has another web series,...

A week ago, on TheWB.com, Rob Corddry launched what’s arguably the greatest online series to date. Now he’s taking Childrens’ Hospital on a digital dog and pony show around the web. First stop: Comedy.com. Taking a page out of YouTube’s playbook, the site has made Corddry its first official celebrity guest editor, giving him control of the featured videos (which include an episode of Childrens’ Hospital executive producer David Wain’s Wainy Days, a couple appearances by Zach Galifianakis, Jon Lajoie, and unicorns) and an opportunity to opine on what’s funny. Corddry also gave a shoutout to his top five favorite comedians (on Comedy.com). That select group includes Mike Birbiglia, Zach Galifianakis, Louis Ck, A.D. Miles (whose Horrible People ranks up there with Childrens’ Hospital), and Mike Dunphy. Here’s Louis Ck on a problem every grown man with wife and kids must...

TheWB.com is trying a new tactic in web series releasing, opting for an all-at-once premiere of their new irreverent medical parody web series Childrens' Hospital today. Instead of stringing viewers along for ten weeks, we're given one giant helping of Rob Corddry's comedic bounty all in one sitting. With buzz growing for the series since the trailer hit the scene back in October, this is a bit of a early holiday gift for intellectual comedy fans. Rob Cordrry produced the series along with friends David Wain (star and creator of the Webby Award-winning series Wainy Days) and Jonathan Stern (producer of Horrible People, and Wainy Days). And as expected of the threesome, they have assembled a powerhouse cast, headed up by Corddry (who also directed) that is essentially a who’s who of the NY comedy scene. There’s Wain along with Jason Sudeikis (SNL), Lake Bell (Boston Legal) Ken Marino (The State,...

Childrens’ Hospital Is the best web series. Ever. There, I said it. It was predicted right here and let me tell you, this tidal wave of genius has no problem living up to all that hype. This show gives the McSteamys and McDreamys all a collective punch in their McPlace-where-their-catheters-go. This might be the best piece of comedy I’ve seen, in any format, all year. It’s not surprising, really. Childrens’ Hospital has one hell of a pedigree. It is produced for TheWB.com by Rob Corddry, David Wain and Jonathan Stern. I don’t even know if these guys need an intro anymore. But I’ll break it down for you last remaining comedy neophytes out there. Corddry is possibly the best Daily Show correspondent ever (next to Carell and Colbert). He was the star of the short lived sit-com, The Winner, and recently had scene stealing turns...

My Damn Channel, whose strategy we questioned when it launched in July 2007, has since blown us away with some of the best programming on and off the web. How’d they do it? Simple: true talent. CEO Rob Barnett has a knack for discovering and supporting the best. It comes, then, as no surprise then that MyDamnChannel would attract the likes of MTV. Beginning today, a selection of MyDamnChannel original productions will appear on a new channel on Atom.com, MyDamnChannel.Atom.com. First to launch will be a selection of episodes from David Wain’s Wainy Days, a 2008 Webby Award winner for Best Comedy Series. Coming soon are additional series including the viral phenomenon and a three-time Webby winner You Suck At Photoshop, created by Big Fat Brain, and Horrible People, the evil, comic soap opera created by A.D. Miles. An Atom branded destination also debuts today at MyDamnChannel.
