The greatly delayed 75th annual Primetime Emmys are only a month away, but the ceremony finally has a host: Anthony Anderson. The “Black-ish” star will helm the January 15, 2024, telecast on Fox, live at 8 p.m. Et/5 p.m. Pt from downtown Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater (formerly the Microsoft) at the L.A. Live complex.
“With our industry’s recent challenges behind us, we can get back to what we love — dressing up and honoring ourselves,” Anderson said in a statement. “And there’s no better celebratory moment to bring the creative community together than the milestone 75th Emmy Awards. When Fox asked me to host this historic telecast, I was over the moon that Taylor Swift was unavailable, and now I can’t wait to be part of the biggest night in television.”

A multiversal rift is opening at CinemaCon 2023, bringing super-powered characters from Sony‘s extended Spider-Verse to the stage! During the studio’s presentation, Sony gave guests more details about its animated sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and Kraven the Hunter.
During Sony’s Spider-Man presentation, the studio revealed Kraven the Hunter is rated R. The film is an origin story depicting how Kraven became one of the greatest Marvel villains. The footage of the upcoming movie screened during the presentation showed off the ultra-violence that earned the project a mature rating. The trailer shows Kraven brutally killing poachers. He even rips the nose off a guy with his teeth. Russell Crowe plays Kraven’s father. The gore in the trailer is over-the-top, with Kraven gutting his opponents. It ends with a brief glimpse of the villain, The Rhino. The trailer hits theaters this summer.

“Let’s murder her!”
What started out as a morbid joke among friends is now dangerously real in the 1993 book Halloween Night. A simple class assignment — plan the perfect murder — inspires Brenda Morgan and her two best friends to kill. Things have been tense since Brenda’s cousin Halley moved in with her family; the two teenage girls aren’t getting along, whatsoever. Eventually one thing leads to another, and Brenda decides this year’s Halloween will be Halley’s last.
Before anyone can commit a crime in this book, author R.L. Stine introduces the potential murderer and her accomplices. High-school senior Brenda has been miserable ever since Halley came to live with her and her folks; she shows no sympathy even as her cousin is caught up in her parents’ messy and drawn-out divorce. And until the adults can sort things out, Halley stays with the Morgans. At first...

Released in 1980 the original Terror Train was one of the many slashers to be released in the wake of Friday the 13th and Halloween. Benefiting from the presence of that film’s star, Jamie Lee Curtis it did well at the box office and has built a following over the years. There was even an attempt to remake it in the early 2000s, but that ended up morphing into Train, a film that sucked even by torture porn standards.
Since the original was a favourite of mine, I was initially interested when I heard it had been remade and was scheduled for an October release. However, when I heard Tubi was involved, a lot of that interest faded. As...

Hurtling Brad Pitt thriller vehicle Bullet Train follows in the tracks of classics from Shanghai Express and The Lady Vanishes to Unstoppable
In the ranks of films set on the railways, new-to-streaming Bullet Train is strictly stuck in second class – and hey, most of us can travel in that carriage happily enough. Placing a grizzled assassin (played by Brad Pitt) on board the world’s fastest train alongside an international assortment of fellow killers, and letting mayhem ensue, David Leitch’s film is effectively a cranked-up megamix of assorted plot points and set pieces from other action comedies of its ilk, and not unenjoyable on those terms.
Most importantly, it reminds us that you can rarely go too far wrong when you situate your film on a moving train. There’s something about that confinement of space and barrelling consistency of movement that is always pleasing, intensifying urgency of action and intimacy of romance alike.

The latest round of The Masked Singer had us seeing triple. Five—or more?—new mystery celebrity contestants took to the stage, aiming for a spot in the finale. The episode was highlighted by a performance by Team Bad's Hydra, a three-headed dragon who sang Train's "Hey, Soul Sister." It was unclear to the entire panel if Hydra was one person imitating three voices, or three separate people underneath the gigantic costume. Hydra's clue package featured a shark, a pack of gum, a beach ball and a Magic 8-ball that said "ask your amigos." Miss Teddy, representing Team Cuddly, performed an inspired version of Taylor Dayne's "Tell...

Will Smith is having an interesting week. Just days after his Oscars slap of Chris Rock went viral for all the wrong reasons, his name is now being thrown out as a potential contestant on Fox’s reality TV show “The Masked Singer.”
During the March 30 episode, as the Hydra’s intro video played for the first time, panelist Ken Jeong announced he was “getting a Will Smith vibe” from the three-headed monster. Why? Because there was a Miami theme to the baddie’s clues package, complete with sand, beach balls, waterskis and a rollercoaster over the ocean. And one of Smith’s most popular songs ever just so happens to be titled “Miami.”

You’re either already on the “Demon Slayer” train or you’re not, and the hit Japanese feature — arriving stateside having surpassed “Spirited Away” as the highest-grossing anime movie of all time — is hardly the vehicle for the popular franchise to pick up new passengers. That doesn’t mean the action-packed toon won’t appeal to those curious to check out the sensation that has earned more than $415 million internationally. But .
Produced by the same team at Ufotable, “Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train” looks even more rudimentary than its small-screen counterpart, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba,” which has amassed a cult following among Funimation, Crunchyroll and Netflix subscribers in the U.S. The slight downgrade in quality may come as a surprise to those expecting slicker visuals from the theatrical blockbuster. At times, the imagery hardly qualifies as animation, coming across as a sequence of still drawings: fixed expressions...

Was The Boys Season 2 Episode 8 a satisfying Season finale? I'm not so sure.
I am sure that it sets up another season with plenty of possibility, somehow wrapping up with the more pertinent season arcs in some fashion, even if not permanently.
The Boys were redeemed, all charges dropped, and despite Butcher's very ugly streak, even he made it out unscathed.
Similarly, Homelander is still at the helm of The Seven which appears to have only four remaining members, one of which is A-Train, who made what was, at the time, a questionable decision that thrust him right back onto the team.
So how did all of this go down?
Well, much of it was due to Becca's escape from the compound to save Ryan.
Whether Homelander and Stormfront intended to take Ryan for a short time or forever really doesn't matter because Becca's fear for her son was justified.

The pair of characters making up popular Game of Thrones romantic couple originally were conceived as brother and sister — and no, we’re not talking about Jaime and Cersei.
Missandei and Grey Worm — played by Nathalie Emmanuel and Jacob Anderson, respectively, on HBO’s juggernaut of a fantasy series — were at one point in the storytelling brother and sister. The revelation is one of many in Entertainment Weekly scribe James Hibberd’s new book on the TV show, Fire Cannot Kill a Dragon: Game of Thrones and the Official Untold Story of the Epic Series.

The planned digital event in October will still go ahead and will feature films that had been scheduled to be shown in the cinema. It will run from 22 to 26 October and open with standalone sequel Train To Busan: Peninsula.
"It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the cancellation of the Cineworld event. Although cinemas are not affected by the new hospitality rules,...

Exclusive: Genius: Aretha director-producer Anthony Hemingway is in talks to helm Train Man, a legal drama based on the true story of Darius McCollum, a man with Asperger syndrome whose fascination with subways and trains led to him posing as various New York City Metro officials in order to operate subway trains.
Despite allegedly having extensive knowledge of the NYC public transportation system, he was said to be rejected for employment. McCollum, who was arrested on several occasions, became a folk hero for people who are on the spectrum.
Simon Stephenson wrote the screenplay, which will follow the lawyer hired to defend McCollum. The long-gestating project at one point had Julia Roberts eyeing the lead. As of now, no cast is attached.
FilmNation and Gotham Group are producing the pic.

When Yeon Sang-ho wrote “Train to Busan,” zombie movies were simply unheard of among South Korean audiences. Skeptical of the subgenre’s commercial appeal, the director went along with his producers at Next Entertainment World on promoting it as “a survival story of Koreans infected by a human virus of sort.”
“When filming it, I had ideas of other stories in that world, in the post-apocalypse, but I didn’t think I’d have another opportunity to make such a specific genre film, especially not at this scale,” Yeon told Variety.
To Yeon’s surprise, “Train to Busan” was both a critical and commercial success. It grossed $98.5 million, $2.1 million of that from the U.S. and Canada, and became among the first Korean films picked up by VOD and streaming services including Netflix and Shudder. In South Korea, more than 11 million people watched the movie in theaters.

When Yeon Sang-ho was conceiving his new film Peninsula, the much-anticipated follow-up to his surprise 2016 hit zombie action film Train to Busan, there was no way of knowing that audiences would be watching it during an outbreak and societal breakdown of their own in the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Regardless, it’s difficult to dissociate many of its imagined extinction anxieties, quarantine paranoia, and various precarious systems of control being shattered from our very real ones.
Which is not to say that making us consider our own world and political landscape is something new for the zombie genre—George Romero’s towering Night of the Living Dead is one of the most ferocious, unflinching depictions of the American psyche in the heat of the Vietnam War and Civil Rights movement, and subsequent sequels would further investigate corporate and military power under the guise of horror thrills—but there is a new,...

Four years ago, the overused and increasingly predictable zombie genre got a shot in the arm with Train to Busan, a South Korean film from director Yeon Sang-ho about a young father desperately attempting to get his little daughter to her mother via train as a zombie pandemic breaks out all around them. Even if it veered close to outright sentimentality at times, Train to Busan differed from most of the films and TV shows we’ve seen in this genre due to its genuine bond of love between its main characters, and the flickers of empathy and humanity found therein. And on a technical level, Yeon crafted his film with a kinetic energy that had been missing from the genre as of late.

One of the true pleasures of writing on film, whether it be in the horror genre or elsewhere, is having fate chart your course, on frequent occasion, as a scribe such that it allows the occasional parallel course match, and even an intersection of connection, with many of the other artists in the medium whom …
