Serpentine Dance: Loïe Fuller (1897)
This early film from the Gaumont company has Loie Fuller doing the title dance. If you're a fan of these early movies then you know that there were a couple different versions of this dance. A couple were even called SERPENTINE DANCE. The highlight of watching this film today is that it gives you a real chance to see an actual music hall dancer from this period. Fuller was apparently quite popular so obviously she would be someone that the company would want to capture on film. The other big bonus is that the picture was hand tinted and it looks rather amazing. The colors certainly leap off the screen and mixes perfectly well with the dance.
