Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz: Perry the Platypus, I... You know, we always do the same thing. I have a scheme, you try to stop me, I trap you, I tell you my scheme, you escape, then we fight, and I'm defeated. Let's mix it up a little!

Birthdays and submarines
Anything centered around surprise birthday plans for a loved one is so easy to relate to for anybody who has been there numerous times themselves to sometimes extreme degrees. And the concept for "Journey to the Center of Candace" is one of the early seasons' most inventive, even if it does initially sound quite disgusting. Most people probably know by now of my interest in good concepts and how they are often main reasons for seeing something.
While neither "Mom's Birthday" or "Journey to the Center of Candace" are among my favourites for 'Phineas and Ferb', they are the complete opposite of disgraces. Actually still really like to love both of them, felt that way when they first aired and feel that way still. "Mom's Birthday" is a lot of fun and makes something that could have been mundane in the wrong hands interesting and immensely enjoyable. Even better though is the quite brilliant "Journey to the Center of Candace".
"Mom's Birthday" had a lot of funny and charming moments and really liked Candace's good intentions, here a different goal other than trying to bust her brothers, and her gift. The episode is also well worth seeing for Doofenschmirtz's hilariously random list of dislikes and actually the Perry (tough and adorable as ever) and Doofenschmirtz subplot is great fun and more than a series of jokes this time. Did think that the episode could have gone further with the wax presidents and boys' (well Phineas mainly) attitude towards Candace seemed somewhat unfair.
"Journey to the Center of Candace" is brilliant, a creative concept with creative execution to the extent that one forgets that the episode is following a formula. The writers clearly had enormous fun with the concept and boast some great gags and very funny and smart lines (including the great submarine puns), while not forgetting what the target audience (the whole family) is. What could have been handled distastefully in the wrong hands is handled instead remarkably maturely and in a referential way. Loved the Perry and Doofenschmirtz subplot too, especially the beautifully timed and animated physical comedy and the successful fleshing out of Perry's motivation.
The animation is still wonderfully vibrant with very rich attention to detail, especially the anatomical visuals in "Journey to the Center of Candace". The music is dynamic with the action and the theme song is insanely catchy with very clever and quotable lyrics that anybody still in school fishing for how to spend their vacation will relate to. The voice acting is very good, especially from Ashley Tisdale this time round.
In conclusion, great. 9/10
