2016-11-25T07:41:38-08:00'Brady Bunch' Mom Florence Henderson Dies at 82
Florence Henderson, the matriarch of TV's original blended family, died Thursday in Los Angeles. He sudden death from heart failure reportedly came as a shock to her family and friends.
Henderson was most famous for her role as Carol Brady on the sitcom The Brady Bunch, which ran from 1969 to 1974. She played a divorced mother of three girls who marries the father of three boys. Their large combined family engaged in wacky yet wholesome hijinks throughout the series' run, and the show became one of the most beloved comedies in TV history.
Henderson's career began much earlier, though, with her debut at the age of 18 in 1952 in the Broadway musical Wish You Were Here.
After The Brady Bunch ended its run, Henderson became a staple on television, making guest appearances in shows like Fantasy Island and The Love Boat.

We've lost a television icon.
Florence Henderson, known the world over for her role as the matriarch of The Brady Bunch, Carol Brady, has died at age 82.
Her manager, Kayla Pressman, shared the news in a statement to Associated Press on Thursday, saying Henderson died surrounded by friends and family.
Henderson was born the youngest of 10 children to farmers in Indiana.
After she graduated from high school, she attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City.
Henderson married Ira Bernstein, with whom she had four children, and divorced in 1985.
She later wed Dr. John George Kappas and they remained married until his death in 1987.
We're most familiar with her story as it began in 1969 on The Brady Bunch, but she was an accomplished stage actress before then, and was also a Today Show girl.
Interestingly, Henderson was also the first woman to host The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.

It's been 39 years since "The Brady Bunch" concluded its five-season run, but rerun heaven has kept the series very much alive, and the cast's frequent reunions have allowed them to stay within reach of the spotlight. But what exactly has this lovable clan been up to since their goofy sitcom said goodbye in 1974? Most of them have popped up in a variety of TV shows and movies, but a few others have taken decidedly more low-key paths. Here's the story of what one of television's most famous families is up to today.
Florence Henderson (Carol Brady)
Current age: 79
The only member of the "Brady Bunch" cast to retain her icon status, Henderson appeared on "Dancing with the Stars" in 2010. She currently hosts "The Florence Henderson Show," a daily talkfest on Retirement Living TV. Henderson also regularly pops up in guest-starring roles, including a gig on "Samantha Who?" that earned her an Emmy nomination.

Florence Henderson (that's Mrs. Carol Brady to you and me) is doing her best to pull a full-on Betty White. First there's the recent rumor that she's this season's older contestant on Dancing with the Stars (to be confirmed tonight). Then there's this summer's appearance as guest host on WWE's Raw.
Then add in her Rltv talk show, The Florence Henderson Show (which was nominated for a daytime Emmy). Now all she needs is a Facebook page trying to to get her on SNL and she could be this year's comeback octogenarian (Ok... she's only 76, but who's counting).
Another notch in FloHen's belt is her recent four-week stint in the Nora Ephron stage play Love, Loss, and What I Wore at the Geffen Playhouse. America's favorite mom ended her turn in the rotating cast production last night. Every four weeks five new all-star actresses take...
