Margot Robbie’s long-rumoured Sims movie has now reportedly got the green light from Amazon MGM.
The Sims is a game that most millennials grew up playing. We were immersed and invested in the intricate lives of the characters on our old, boxy PCs in the early-2000s and occasionally, accidentally set things on fire.
We reported in March that a film based on The Sims was in the works, with Loki-director Kate Herron helming it and Margot Robbie producing through her LuckyChap banner. Now, Puck News (via Dark Horizons) is reporting that the film has found a home with Amazon MGM.
Screen Rant mentions that Netflix’s bid for the film’s rights was higher, but Amazon MGM ultimately won by promising the film a theatrical release.

Helldivers 2 players are celebrating the victory against PlayStation’s mandate to link with Steam accounts. The community is now optimistic that the company will also listen to its pleas regarding the censorship of Stellar Blade.
The controversy was a learning curve for Sony and proof that the community can influence the decisions of the people who run the company. Although these two issues are unrelated, there’s still hope for change and the right step forward for the industry.
Stellar Blade and Helldivers Are a Learning Experience for Sony
PlayStation fans are delighted by the company’s change of heart regarding Helldivers 2.
It’s wholesome to see a peaceful resolution to a problem, although the gaming community went to certain extremes, like review bombing both Helldivers developed by Arrowhead on Steam, to gain the publisher’s attention. Sony underestimated what the community’s capable of and made the right choice to retract the mandate,...

Olivia Wilde will direct and Margot Robbie will star in an adaptation of comic book Avengelyne, it’s been announced.
Comic book writer Rob Liefeld’s biggest success is undoubtably Deadpool, which Ryan Reynolds and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick brought to the screen to huge critical and commercial success – Deadpool And Wolverine, which sees Hugh Jackman reprise his iconic role, will be released in UK cinemas on the 26th July. You can watch the trailer here.
Warner Bros is now very close to closing a deal on another of Liefeld’s comics, Avengelyne. Furthermore, Margot Robbie – as you probably gleaned from the cunning headline to this piece – is circling the lead role.

Warner Bros. in Talks to Land ‘Avengelyne’ With Margot Robbie Eyeing to Star, Tony McNamara to Write
The feature adaptation of “Avengelyne” from Olivia Wilde, Margot Robbie and “X-Men” producer Simon Kinberg is being set up at Warner Bros. The studio is close to finalizing a seven-figure film rights deal.
Robbie is eyeing the role of the titular angel who fights the forces of evil and often finds herself face-to-face with demons and monsters. “Deadpool” co-creator Rob Liefeld first brought the comic book character to life in 1995. “Poor Things” scribe Tony McNamara will pen the screenplay.
“This incredibly humbling journey to bring Avengelyne to life onscreen started through my relationship with super-producer Simon Kinberg who told me he had a perfect fit for the material and asked me to trust him,” Liefeld told Variety in an exclusive statement. “Next thing I’m meeting with Margot Robbie and Olivia Wilde and the connection was electric! Better known as Cluedo in the UK, Clue could eventually be a TV series, as Hasbro and Sony announce the latest effort to adapt the boardgame.
Movies based on toys and games bring in audiences these days. People also seem to like murder mysteries, if Knives Out is anything to go by. All of which might explain why Hasbro is partnering Sony in another attempt to adapt the murder mystery boardgame Clue (known in the UK as Cluedo) for the screen.
As reported by Variety, Hasbro Entertainment and Sony have signed a deal to make a film or TV series – at the time of writing, it isn’t clear which route the two corporations will take.
In a statement shared by the outlet, bosses from Hasbro described Clue as “culturally impactful,” which is quite a funny thing to say about an old boardgame that comes with a tiny piece of string and a miniature pistol,...

Sony is the latest player that would like to make an accusation. The studio has won the rights to develop a reimagining of the Hasbro board game “Clue,” and the studio intends to bring the murder mystery game to the screen for both film and television.
Hollywood has been trying to remake “Clue,” first adapted in Jonathan Lynn’s cult classic screwball comedy “Clue” from 1985, for years. Most recently, a project was set up at 20th Century Studios, and it had Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman circling to star along with “The Muppets Movie” filmmaker James Bobin directing. In 2022, Oren Uziel (“The Lost City”) stepped up to rewrite the original draft of the script from Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (“Deadpool”), but it too went nowhere.
No cast or creative talent is attached at this stage of development. Sony is the only studio developing anything based on “Clue” at this time,...

The film and TV rights for Clue have landed at Sony, with Hasbro Entertainment closing a deal with TriStar Pictures and Sony Pictures Television to develop adaptations of the classic murder mystery board game.
Clue, the game, has players figure out who is responsible for a murder in a cast of characters that includes Professor Plum, Colonel Mustard, Mrs. White and Miss Scarlet. The location of the murder (dining room, kitchen, ballroom, etc.) and weapon (velvet rope, lamp, knife, etc.) also must be deciphered.
The board game was previously adapted into a 1985 comedy that starred Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn and Christopher Lloyd, among others. While the film performed poorly at the box office and debuted to lukewarm reviews, Clue, which was written and directed by Jonathan Lynn, has since reached cult status. Over the years, other versions were in the works, with Ryan Reynolds at one point attached to star...

Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” elevated a Mattel-produced toy adaptation into a work of art that drew near-universal acclaim — but extended references to the one most famously difficult writers in modernist literature were still a bridge too far for test audiences.
One of the funniest sequences in the film takes place when Margot Robbie’s eponymous doll meets a group of so-called “Weird Barbies,” many of whom are references to real ill-advised dolls that Mattel produced over the years. Gerwig previously told IndieWire that the scene originally featured a joke about a fake Barbie inspired by Marcel Proust, the French writer whose sprawling epic “In Search of Lost Time” is considered one of the most challenging novels ever written
“I think I got most of them in there,” Gerwig said when asked about alternative Barbies that didn’t make the final cut. “We did have a more extensive thing that...

Not so long ago, we reported that a live-action movie based on the popular video game series The Sims is in the work and that Margot Robbie will be producing (and possibly starring?) the movie via her LuckyChap production company, along with her partners Tom Ackerley and Josie McNamara. After starring in Barbie, Robbie has been involved with other game/toy-related productions and news has broken today that another live-action adaptation is in the works, this one based on the popular board game Monopoly.

The long-in-gestation Monopoly movie rolls a double six, as Margot Robbie and her production company join the project.
I was writing news over at another website when Hollywood powerful people first started talking about bringing the board game Monopoly to the big screen. Ridley Scott, if memory serves, was circling the project at one point, but back then, it all came to nothing.
Then the Barbie movie happened. Taking the Mattel dolls as its source, the film was a gigantic success which had Hollywood scrambling around toy shop aisles for more inspiration.
That’s when Monopoly was re-discovered. Lionsgate picked up the project when it acquired Entertainment One at the end of last year from Hasbro. It’s extended the rights since too, and now it’s gone to Margot Robbie’s production company LuckyChap for a bit of help.

Could a little of Barbie's girl power help Lionsgate finally crack the Monopoly movie adaptation out of the development limbo it's been stuck in for seemingly eons? The studio is certainly hoping so, hatching a deal with Margot Robbie and her LuckyChap team to produce the film.
Monopoly might not sound like the sort of game naturally that lends itself to a movie — you know, since it doesn't really have a narrative beyond trying to be incredibly careful with your cash and being the best a capitalism to defeat your opponents, but then Greta Gerwig spun gold out of Barbie for Warners.
Lionsgate didn't confirm who, if anyone is attached to actually make the film, but this is one that has been floating around for years, with Ridley Scott most famously looking to put together a take for 20th Century Fox in the years before it was swallowed by Disney.

Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap production company is passing Go to collect more than $200 by partnering with Hasbro to develop and produce Monopoly, a film adaptation of the classic real estate board game. Hasbro Entertainment also produces alongside LuckyChap.
Eighty-nine years ago, Hasbro’s Monopoly began dividing families, ending friendships, and creating chaos as players argued and haggled for properties that would boost their income and drive others to bankruptcy. Monopoly is the most popular board game in history in more than 100 countries, with countless themed versions in addition to the original. During a round of Monopoly, players pick from a collection of pieces, from a Top Hat to a Scottish Terrier, a Classic Car, an Iron, the mighty Thimble, and others, to travel around a board while buying up properties. If a rival player lands on an owned space, they must pay rent or risk a verbal battle with the land owner.

“I don’t buy into this thing that theatrical comedies aren’t a thing,” said Good Fortune director and star Aziz Ansari while presenting his Lionsgate movie Good Fortune on Wednesday at CinemaCon in what was the first look at the film.
The Parks and Rec alum came out on stage riffing, “I know what you’re thinking: Oh my God, it’s Henry Cavill in brown face, how inappropriate!”
“Adam (Fogelson)’s nickname for me is ‘Little brown Cavill’… Enough with Cavill…You’ve casted Henry Cavill in five films!” he jokingly admonished the Lionsgate Motion Picture Chair.
Ansari then thanked “all the exhibitors who left the strip club this morning to come to the presentation.”
He said his inspiration to make Good Fortune was because he “had been doing some more dramatic work recently and I really wanted to make a comedy and I wanted it to be in theaters.

Lionsgate and Hasbro announced today that they have signed a deal with LuckyChap, the award-winning production company headed by Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley, and Josey McNamara, to produce Monopoly, a motion picture in development based on the legendary classic board game. It's Margot Robbie's world and we're just living in it, folks. The actor-turned-producer is flying high after her work both in front of the camera and behind the scenes of "Barbie," teaming up with director Greta Gerwig to turn what many assumed would be some soulless corporate product into a bona fide sensation. Between that and her star-making performances in recent years, she's pretty much had her pick of the litter in Hollywood. And now, she's using her well-earned clout to take on another major production that most have remained skeptical of: a movie based on the popular board game Monopoly.
/Film's Ryan Scott is currently on the ground at this year's CinemaCon event and was in attendance of the Lionsgate panel, where they announced that "Monopoly" will, indeed, pass Go as the studio is joining forces with Robbie's LuckyChap production company to make this far-fetched concept into a reality.

Lionsgate announced the news at CinemaCon on Wednesday.
Hollywood has tried to crack a Monopoly adaptation for more than a decade, with Kevin Hart and filmmaker Tim Story among those who have come and gone. Lionsgate extended its rights to Monopoly when it completed its purchase of Hasbro’s film and TV arm eOne in December.
Monopoly dates back to 1935, and challenges players to acquire properties and build houses and hotels, all while avoiding bankruptcy and the dreaded “go directly to jail” card. Nearly 1 billion copies have been sold.

While Amazon MGM Studios didn’t take the stage at CinemaCon, they did meet with exhibitors and key press to strut their future theatrical slate, in particular they showed off ten minutes of the Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans’ movie Red One. While we agree to keep mum about the details of the Santa Claus rescue movie, let’s just say the originally conceived for Prime Video title is definitely meant for theatrical, which is where it’s going on Nov. 15; the only wide release currently on that weekend.
Let’s just say that Red One is a fire-breathing Christmas action movie that completely reinvents the holiday genre. There hasn’t been a mass appealing Christmas tentpole in six years, the last being Illumination/Universal’s The Grinch which made over a half billion worldwide. A Friday legal filing in Los Angeles regarding the estate and will of Matthew Perry shows that the late Friends actor has named his parents as the beneficiaries of a trust that he named after an iconic Woody Allen character. The role in the film, the actor said in his memoir, was central to his favorite childhood memory.
The legal filing, obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, shows that Perry, who died in late October at the age of 54, had placed the majority of his belongings into the Alvy Singer Living Trust. Alvy Singer is the iconic character played by Allen in his 1975 career high-water mark romantic comedy, Annie Hall. In his 2022 memoir, Friends Lovers – And The Big Terrible Thing, Perry recalled the treasured memory of a day with his mother that ended with the two watching the film.

Back in 2019, Hasbro acquired the entertainment company Entertainment One as part of a $4 billion all-cash transaction, aiming to become a major media contender by combining the company’s film and TV unit with their own. But the pandemic disrupted that plan, and now (according to The Hollywood Reporter) Hasbro is more interested in becoming a digital gaming powerhouse. So Lionsgate has been able to acquire “certain assets” of Entertainment One from Hasbro in a $500 million deal. Lionsgate forked over $375 million in cash, in addition to taking on production financing loans.
A press release lets us know that the acquisition “adds 6,500 film and television titles to Lionsgate’s library, one of the largest and most valuable in the world, diversifies and strengthens its scripted and unscripted television businesses, extends its portfolio of brands and franchises and expands its presence in Canada and the UK. eOne produces the hit ABC franchise The Rookie,...

Shows like “Yellowjackets,” “The Rookie,” and “Naked & Afraid” all have a new home. Lionsgate has officially closed its acquisition of film and TV studio Entertainment One (eOne) from Hasbro for a sum of $375 million in cash, Lionsgate announced on December 27.
That’ll help Lionsgate beef up its own film and TV library, as the studio now has ownership of eOne’s crop of over 6,500 films and shows. Lionsgate already has one of the most impressive standalone film and TV libraries around town — one that has made it attractive for an acquisition of its own — and this deal makes it now well in excess of 20,000 titles.
On the film side, you’ve got a couple of Best Picture winners like “Green Book” and “Spotlight,” as well as some awards darlings and hits like “1917,” “The Woman King,” “The Post,” “Molly’s Game,” “The Bfg,” “The Duke,” “Arrival,” “Booksmart,” “If Beale Street Could Talk,...

Lionsgate closed its $375 million acquisition of studio Entertainment One (eOne) from toy company Hasbro Wednesday.
The deal adds 6,500 film and television titles to Lionsgate’s existing library, including Showtime hit “Yellowjackets,” ABC’s “The Rookie” and Discovery’s “Naked & Afraid” franchise.
The sale is subject to purchase price adjustments, plus Lionsgate’s assumption of production financing loans for eOne projects.
In August, Lionsgate struck a deal to purchase eOne‘s TV and film operations from Hasbro for $500 million. The sale news came nearly four years to the date when Hasbro announced their intent to acquire eOne in a $3.8 billion deal in August 2019.
Earlier this month, Lionsgate laid off 10% of eOne’s workforce in preparation for the merger closing. Cuts previously hit eOne in June, when Hasbro reduced the studio’s staff by 20% amid its plan to sell the asset.

Lionsgate has completed a $500 million deal to acquire certain assets of Entertainment One from Hasbro.
The studio met a year-end deadline to pick up a content library of nearly 6,500 titles and active productions for non-Hasbro owned IP like the Yellowjackets, The Rookie and Naked and Afraid franchises, as well as the eOne unscripted business.

Lionsgate has laid off 10% of Entertainment One’s (eOne) workforce ahead of the closing of the merger between the two companies, which is expected to be finalized the last week of December, a source tells Variety.
