With Dwayne Johnson vehicle Hercules under his belt and recently announced sequel Snow White and the Huntsman 2 coming down the pipeline, screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos is rapidly gaining favor with major Hollywood studios. Though he cut his teeth on kiddie flicks like Pooh’s Heffalump Movie, Battle for Terra and Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure, the scribe has been steadily transitioning into larger blockbusters, and now, thanks to his work on Hercules, Spiliotopoulos has been brought on board to adapt another high-profile project – Fox’s adventure thriller Seven Wonders.
Based on the upcoming book by Ben Mezrich (The Accidental Billionaires, Bringing Down the House, Sex on the Moon), Seven Wonders focuses on a man who attempts to discover the reasons for his reclusive mathematician brother’s murder, a venture which hurtles him into a vast conspiracy involving the Seven Wonders of the World. Denzel Rumored for 'Magnificent Seven' Remake and Condon Tackling Live Action 'Beauty and the Beast'
Bill Condon (Dreamgirls, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn) is set to direct a live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast for Walt Disney Studios with Evan Spiliotopoulos (Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure, Brett Ratner's Hercules) writing the screenplay. Of course, no reason to assume it will beat Jean Cocteau's 1946 version or Disney's animated version so is there really any point in caringc Variety The Other Guys co-stars, Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell, are looking to re-team for the comedy Daddy's Home for Paramount. The story centers on two men battling for the love and attention of their children. Horrible Bosses 2 directors Sean Anders and John Morris are in talks to direct from a screenplay written by Brian Burns, Adam McKay, Chris Henchy and Etan Cohen. Deadline Apparently Antoine Fuqua is in talks to direct a remake of The Magnificent Seven and the new rumor is he'll...

Well, this was only a matter of time. Word emerged over a year ago that Disney was planning a live-action version of their beloved "Beauty And The Beast," and they had tapped "Trance" writer Joe Ahearne to pen the script for what was then simply going to be called "The Beast." A little bit has changed since the, but the project is still firmly a go, and now has a director in place. "Dreamgirls" and "The Fifth Estate" helmer Bill Condon will get behind the camera for this one, with spinoff veteran Evan Spiliotopoulos ("Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure," "The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning," "Tarzan 2") writing the script. Of course, plot details aren't being revealed. But given the massive success of "Maleficent" over the weekend, the sorta live-action prequel to "Sleeping Beauty" and the arrival of the flesh and blood version of "Cinderella" next year, this is clearly...

Disney takes Pixar's Cars franchise to the skies with Planes, and loses a fair bit in the process...
Here's what I can't get my head around. Pixar has built a reputation on generally strong choices. It's been careful what films it associates with its brand, and it made its place in the world by standing on the shoulders of others and making its mark from there. The Cars films, to be fair, are the least liked of Pixar's output, but at the very least, the animation is quite staggering in places. Even in their weaker moments, there are Pixar hallmarks to be found.
Meanwhile, when John Lasseter began overseeing Walt Disney Animation Studios, one of his first and most popular acts was to kill off the direct-to-dvd sequels that were pillaging the Disney classic back catalogue in the name of a few easy quid.

So, thanks to our friends over at IMPAwards, we have three new posters up for Disney's Planes and, they're well...just there. That's as close as I can get to the emotions these images stir up. The film, which is "from above the world of cars," could however turn out to be a blast, I'm just not convinced as the whole affair seems lackluster for the most part. Planes opens August 9th under the direction of Klay Hall (Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure, Father of the Pride, King of the Hill), with a script by Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue writer Jeffrey M. Howard.

More than a few people are going to look at the new teaser trailer for Planes and think of it as the next evolution of selling out for Pixar. The thing is, despite John Lasseter’s presence as a producer, this straight-to-dvd sequel that got bumped up to first class has DisneyToon Studios written all over it. In fact, you won’t see the Pixar logo anywhere in the trailer — even though they’re aping the look of Cars right down to the font choices. The movie stars Dane Cook, voicing Dusty Crophopper, a plane whose afraid of heights but desperately wants to compete in a massive flying contest. It’s being directed by Klay Hall (Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure) and comes right at the tail end of the Summer blockbuster season. Check out the teaser for yourself: First of all, it’s great to see Rob Zombie involved with movies again. Second...

Just yesterday we posted the latest trailer for Disney's upcoming Cars spin-off Planes. But already Disney has pulled the linked vid, and now we have an idea as to why. A new press release reveals that the lead role of Dusty, a crop duster plane that dreams of being a high-flying air racer, has recently been recast. Throughout the film's development, Two and a Half Men star Jon Cryer was lending his voice to Dusty, but now his recorded tracks are being dropped and replaced by stand-up comedian Dane Cook. Considering Disney's Planes is slated to open this summer, this seems a surprising and short notice switch up. The press release offers no details on why the change was made, though the film's director Klay Hall (Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure) offers: "Dane Cook brings unmatched charisma and brilliant comedic timing and instincts to the character. He gives Dusty...

I’m not sure when exactly my 2-year-old daughter fell in love with robots. Maybe it was one of the thousand times when her dad has said, “Hey little girl, check out this cool robot! Don’t you love them?”
Traditional gender roles tell us, of course, that little girls like princesses and little boys are the ones who like robots, but I don’t see why that has to be so. My daughter enjoys wearing her pair of fairy wings, and her favorite book is Pinkalicious, but she also adores this boxy, tin-toy Lilliput robot that staggers forward awkwardly when you wind it up.

Few months ago we had a little chat about the project titled Ouija, an upcoming Universal’s adaptation of the well known board game, when we reported that McG will be on board to direct the whole thing.
So, you probably remember that Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz were set to pen the screenplay, but now it looks that’s not going to happen after all. Today we’re here for a little update because we just learned that The Lion King 1 ½ writer, Evan Spiliotopoulos, has been brought in to rewrite the script for Ouija.
Let us remind you that Ouija made its debut in 1966, selling over 12 million copies for Parker Brothers. Hasbro acquired the game in 1991: A Ouija board, also known as a spirit board or talking board, is a flat board marked with letters, numbers, and other symbols, supposedly used to communicate with spirits.

As with Peter Berg’s Battleship, Hollywood is bringing the Ouija board to the big screen in a film adaptation directed by McG (Terminator: Salvation, Charlie’s Angels). The film was originally written by Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz (Tron: Legacy), but Variety is reporting that Evan Spiliotopolous has been hired to rewrite the screenplay. Ouija is set to be a more family-friendly film than one would expect, and Spiliotopolous already has experience in that field having written Tinker Bell and The Lost Treasure and Battle For Terra.

The film stars Mark Wahlberg as John, a man who wishes his childhood Teddy bar would come to life -- and when it does, it turns into a pot smoking, booze-swilling slacker who gets in the way of John's relationship with his girlfriend, played by Mila Kunis. MacFarlane will voice the CGI-Ted. Warburton will play Guy, a sexually confused co-worker at the Enterprise Rent-a-Car front office where John works. According to Deadline, MacFarlane wanted Warburton for the role long before this casting; in the script, when Guy is first introduced, the character is described as "a burly Patrick Warburton type." Screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos has been called in to rewrite Universal Picture's supernatural action-adventure film Ouija, which is set to be directed by that McG guy, you know the one that made that crappy Terminator film.
Spiliotopoulos has written a lot of second tier straight-to-dvd animated movies like The Jungle Book 2, Cinderella 3, The Lion King 1 1/2, Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure, The Little Mermaid Prequel, and several more. Yeah, McG and this guy working together? Forget about it... there's no hope at all that the movie will be good. The scribe will work off an original screenplay that was written by Lost writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz.
I just find it hilarious that the studio wants to make a family friendly film about a game that is best known for harnessing the power of the devil and demons. I don't know about the rest of you, but playing around...

Universal's Ouija , seems to have found a new writer in Evan Spiliotopolous, Variety reports. The original draft of the film was written by Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz ("Lost," Tron: Legacy ) and aims to turn the famous Hasbro board game into a feature film with the supernatural board opening the gateway to a family-friendly adventure. Spiliotopolous is best known for his work with direct-to-video projects from Walt Disney Pictures, including Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure and Pooh's Heffalump Movie . McG is still rumored to be directing the project and the release is still targeting a November 9th release.

Alice In Wonderland (Blu-Ray)Walt Disney Home Entertainment2010/Rated PG/109 minsList Price $44.99 – Available NowI can't help but wonder if Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland was a runaway success because of Burton and Johnny Depp's star power, the fact that it was an adaptation of one of the most beloved books of all time or because it was riding the 3D coattails of James Cameron's Avatar. All three certainly played a factor, but the post 3D conversion of the film no doubt brought in some extra dollars due to inflated ticket prices. What many audiences didn't initially realize is that Burton's Alice isn't the Alice we all know and love, but an unofficial sequel that attempts to build the story around Depp's interpretation of the Mad Hatter which becomes a central character. Depp and Burton have worked together so frequently over the last twenty years that their collaborations...

As someone who falls outside of the target demographic for this title, I took it upon myself to ask my six-year-old daughter if she would like to help with this review. She's a big fan of all things princess and Tinker Bell, and it's been with baited breath that she's awaited another of these releases, having watched the first two. But will her interest wain in Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue? After all, the last one Disney released, Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure, seemed to be better received than the first.
For myself, I was hoping for less fairy dust and more action.
If you're not a parent of a little girl then you're likely not aware that Disney is making five CG-animated 'toons starring Peter Pan's favorite fairy. Seeing the tremendous financial success of its Disney Princess line, the company created Disney Fairies in the hopes...

Back when Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure came out, I was impressed with the overall effort and quality of the Disney direct-to-video title. Largely besmirched and ignored in a “by definition” sense (and with good reason), Disney finally made a serious run at proving that they could offer solid entertainment through the medium, and that quality on every front didn’t have to be several pegs shy of feature films.
Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue takes things further even than that, and delivers true theatrical quality in a home release.
When Tinker Bell stumbles onto a brilliant, young girl named Lizzie, and is semi-accidentally imprisoned (or at least unable to leave), her friends have to brave the human world to rescue her. Lizzie, fascinated with fairies already, hopes to befriend Tink, but when Lizzie’s science-minded father enters the picture, things become complicated in a hurry.

For those in need of some pixie dust, you're in luck. Tinker Bell and the rest of the Disney fairies are back in an all-new adventure heading to Blu-ray and DVD, "Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue." While it might seem like it's aimed squarely at the kids, many agree that it's the best Tinker Bell movie yet.
"Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue," the follow-up to last year's "Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure," follows the world-famous fairy before Peter and Wendy. In the new film, Tinker Bell ends up getting trapped in a small house by Lizzy, a nine-year-old with a steadfast belief in fairies. With Lizzy's affinity for Tink's kind, the two share a special bond, but the rest of her fairy friends are on the rescue, risking their lives and the future of all fairies in jeopardy.

With their partner Pixar doing amazing things with computer animated fare, Disney are doing their best to keep up with the forthcoming 3D Rapunzel film, Tangled, and this straight to Blu-ray and DVD release Tinker Bell and The Great Fairy Rescue.
Following the success of the 2008 Tinker Bell and its sequel Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure, Disney are sticking with the cast of Mae Whitman, Kristin Chenoweth and Lucy Liu for the third film, and as can be seen in this extended clip below, they conjure up a fantastical world (even though I couldn’t get used to Tinker Bell’s voice).

Castle In The Sky
Hayao Miyazaki’s art has possibly never been on better display than it was with Castle in the Sky. The backgrounds are lush, colorful, and have an atmosphere to them that’s really unmatched in other animated pictures. The film is also a divine showcase of Miyazaki’s imagination when you take a look at the flying and flying machines the man invigorates the film with. This is a society you want to visit and possibly even live in, which is absolutely breathtaking. While this might be the least complex of Miyazaki’s works, it’s arguably his most gorgeous to look at. Watch this one subtitled as the English dub leaves much to be desired.

Bell found the part in the Steve Antin-directed musical demanding. “It’s tough stuff because there’s a lot of dancing,” said the 29-year-old. “This strip club is run by Cher, and the girls look fantastic, especially Christina Aguilera, who just blows me away with her talent.
She added: “I’ve come to terms with the fact that I’m never going to look like her. I’m a little bit...

Lost is easily one of the most talked about, debated and confusing shows of the last decade. What started out as a tale of woe following the survivors of a plane crash on a mysterious island –five years ago I remember thinking it looked like a modern day Gilligan’s Island without the coconut radios–has now developed into a sci-fi narrative complete with time-traveling and a multitude of story-lines.
For all of the hubbub, ABC’s hit show has its fair share of detractors as well, as the left-turn plot changes and inability to tie much together is passed off as “creativity.” Still, season five of the show has been both audience and critically acclaimed. From Emmy nominations to Golden Globe recognition (again), the season marked a turning point for the show and has lured back dwindling audiences with its clever plot devices. (Who is Jacob!?)

Disney’s G-Force is hands-down the best fusion of CGI technology and live action movie based on guinea pig spies working for the U.S. government ever made. With its arrival on Blu-ray, families can now watch rodents fight back the tide of megalomaniacs from the comfort of their own home. Is G-Force fun? Yes, if you’re under 10 or you’re infatuated with flashing lights, fast-moving camera work and arch-stereotypes wrapped in fur. Perhaps I’m being too hard. The camera-work isn’t that fast.
Though I surmised the plot earlier, it may prove helpful if I told you that Bill Nighy plays Saber, a businessman who the FBI (aka The Feds) thinks is selling military technology to the Chinese. He has implanted military-grade computer chips in his appliances, from coffee makers to telephones. The catch? The devices turn into killers. Yes, Mr. Coffee may throw burning-hot java on...

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences released a list of the twenty films vying for the “Best Animated Feature” Oscar in March 2010. The category allows for five nominees, but has only included three potential winners one time since 2001 when the category was added.
This year the Academy is allowing ten nominees for “Best Picture,” which means Pixar’s Up has a solid chance of becoming the second animated film to compete for the highest honor. (The first was 1991’s Beauty and the Beast.) However, this year is proving itself a great year for film and a competitive race for the Oscar, so the animation studio may have to settle for this consolation prize.
A surprise announcement is extremely unlikely given the quality of Up’s storytelling, but there have been upsets in the category before. Pixar’s Cars lost to Happy Feet in 2006 and Monsters Inc. fell to Shrek in 2001. Then again,...

The race for the best picture isn't the only category generating some heat. There are twenty films vying for an Oscar at this year's awards. You be the judge, there are a hefty amount I'd remove and, surprisingly enough "Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure" I found to be wonderfully done. Strongest contenders I would pick would be "Up" (Disney and Pixar dominate this category for the most part), "9" (Shane Acker's efforts backed by Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov) are surely to contend, Disney's "A Christmas Carol" (could sneak off with the win despite less than impressive box office numbers), "Coraline" (Henry Selick's film is not an easy one), "Fantastic Mr. Fox (Wes Anderson's work on this one puts it in big contention).

Having only been introduced in 2001,”Best Animated Feature” is a fairly new category for the Oscars. Since then, the Academy has only had three nominees in the category every year. This year, however, it’s looking like that might change.
The number of nominees is determined by a set of rules that bases nominations based on how many eligible films come out during that awards year. This year has been a hotbed for animated films, which has resulted in the Academy having a list of 20 films that could be nominated for Best Animated Feature.
Given that number, it’s quite likely that five films could be pulled as nominees, rather than the three that the category has seen in previous years. It’s not guaranteed that the category will see five nominees, but given how well animated films did this year, the potential is definitely there.

It was long speculated and recently confirmed that enough titles would be submitted for consideration in the Best Animated Feature Film category for there to be five nominees this year. This is something that hasn't happened since 2003 when Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away took home the award and not only are there 16 contenders, which is the magic number needed to open the door for five nominees, but there are 20.
The Academy just released the list of 20 films submitted for consideration and they are: Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel Astro Boy Battle for Terra Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs Coraline Disney's A Christmas Carol The Dolphin - Story of a Dreamer Fantastic Mr. Fox Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs Mary and Max The Missing Lynx Monsters vs. Aliens 9 Planet 51 Ponyo The Princess and the Frog The Secret of Kells Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure A Town...

I have a dark and hideous secret. Only a handful of friends know about this, but I felt it was time to let the minions of the interwebs know the truth: I love Christmas. There I said it.
For me, Christmas is about family, faith, buckets of hot chocolate, too many renditions of Here Comes Santa Claus and, yes, learning to get over yourself and enjoy the holiday.
In Mickey’s Magical Christmas: Snowed in at the House of Mouse, Disney has repackaged the original 2001 release just in time for the holidays.
Snowed In, one of two House of Mouse tales featured on the disc, stars Mickey, Goofy, and Donald who are running a nightclub for a whole host of Disney characters. When a freak snowstorm lands squarely on their pad, over 35 Disney characters are stranded inside with nothing to do except sing songs, perform skits and show previously created content like Donald on Ice,...

Critics and audiences alike often get flack for championing Pixar’s films every time a new one is released. While everyone does go crazy with praise, just take a look at their catalog. Cars and A Bug’s Life may not be up to the standards of Toy Story 2, Wall-e, or Finding Nemo but they’re still better than half of the animated movies that are released over the years. If anything they’re probably the best studio around as they consistently churn out projects that above all put their story and characters first. One year ago, everyone crowned Wall-e as their finest achievement and was on many “best of” lists, mine included. While Up is certainly going to be there this year, my question now is will it remain on top? While it’s dropped a place or two, there’s no denying that Pixar has crafted their finest film.

Spin-offs and sequels represent Disney’s plan of expansion in between the major theatrical features. A small fraction of Disney’s films actually have theatrical potential while the rest have little promise beyond DVD and Blu-ray sales for adolescent to tweenage audiences by capitalizing on classic Disney film protagonists or their buddies. Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure takes Peter Pan out of the Neverland equation and establishes a story with no appeal beyond the 5 to 10-year-old demographic. It’s not a negligible niche and so Disney puts a fair amount of money into the process. The direct to DVD/Blu-ray films like this one tend to have a decent cast selection as well as respectable animation production levels; they just don’t have very compelling stories or characters.
As the movie’s intro explains, faeries depend on a seasonal cycle of sorts the basis of which is their faerie dust.

I’ll watch essentially anything The Mouse House churns out, within reason. Most of their live-action catalogue can be done without, but at the end of the day the Disney is that childhood friend you ultimately can’t turn your back to. I’ll even suffer through some Disney Channel schlock because my old friend and I go way, way back. For this reason, and because I’m in love with Disneyland, is why I chose to sit through Tinker Bell And The Lost Treasure. Quite honestly, I’d almost say I’m glad I did as the direct-to-dvd/Blu-ray movie turned out much better than expected.
The main reason this Tinker Bell adventure isn’t terrible is due in large part to the effort that’s on display. The writing isn’t particularly sharp, but the writers have turned in something that actually expands the mythology of Tink and Pixie Hollow.

Available now on DVD and Blu-Ray, Tinker Bell has a new adventure which continues the fun (and success) of 2008's Tinker Bell. Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure finds the beloved fairy in a spot of trouble when she inadvertently threatens the source of all the pixie's magic. To set things right, she'll have to take on a challenging quest, and one that doesn't actually have a lot of chance of success. More than anything, it's a story about friendship, and what being a true friend really means, especially in the face of difficult circumstances. A falling out between Tinker Bell and best friend Terence leaves Tink in even more of a bind, and it makes putting things right quite a bit more of a chore.

Walt Disney's Tinker Bell is back for another adventure in the Blu-ray and DVD release of Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure, out now. Kids of all ages can join Tink on her journey that leads her from Pixie Hollow to North of Never Land, as she discovers the importance of friendship along the way. Produced by Sean Lurie and directed by Klay Hall, the animated movie includes the voices of Mae Whitman as Tinker Bell, Jesse McCartney as her friend Terence, Angelica Huston as Queen Clarion; Kristin Chenoweth, Lucy Liu, Raven-Symone and Jane Horrocks as Fairy Mary. This is the second movie in a series with Tinker Bell that follow the seasons, this one being fall.

The latest Disney feature has an even greater gathering of movie magic, all packaged in one of its tiniest characters.
"Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure" is currently available on DVD and Blu-Ray Hi-Def. Released on Oct. 27 from Walt Disney Pictures, the sequel to the 2008 computer animated, direct-to-dvd movie "Tinker Bell" tells of the further adventures of the title fairy and her adventures in Pixie Hollow.
The character was originally popularized in Disney's 1953 adaptation of J.M. Barrie's "Peter Pan." Tinker Bell became a fixture for the studio, also being featured in the opening to the weekly series "The Wonderful World of Disney." The silent character also appeared in 2002's "Return to Never Land." Tink gained a voice (Mae Whitman) with the release of her first solo movie, part of DisneyToon Studios "Disney Fairies" franchise.

It's pretty slim pickings this week on DVD as there are only a few noteworthy releases, and fewer still that are even remotely related to Halloween. If you want horror, the only major releases available are the middling summer thriller Orphan, a collection of creepy animated shorts called Fear(s) of the Dark, and... the direct-to-dvd spoof Stan Helsing. Ugh. Other new releases include Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, Woody Allen's Whatever Works starring Larry David, and the final (?) Battlestar Galactica Dtv feature, The Plan. The only thing that salvages the week is the long awaited release of Fred Dekker's cult classic Night of the Creeps on both DVD and Blu-ray! Definitely well worth checking out if you haven't seen it before. Will you be picking anything up this week? Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs Ugh, I did not like this movie and, like the sequels to Shrek, will never be returning to watch it. There must come a point during the writers' meetings where the inevitable poop or sex joke enters the dialogue and people snicker and laugh, and perhaps even the whole room begins rolling and shouting between breaths, "That's great! Keep that in there." Then the movie gets made and animated little characters are regurgitating these lines and unless you have the mental capacity of a 12-year-old or are so easily amused all it takes is a poop joke to get you to laugh you sit and stare in bewilderment, unimpressed and shocked this is the best they can come up with.
