Zack Snyder is very passionate when it comes to creating various franchises, and while most fans only know his works on the Dceu and Rebel Moon, he has actually produced an animated project as well, and will soon release another.

When asking viewers to list the qualities that best characterize a Zack Snyder film, ‘slow motion’ is probably going to be mentioned nine times out of ten. Rebel Moon, his 2023 American epic space opera flick, is probably well-known to those who enjoy visually stunning stories and epic action sequences. In addition, if you have watched the movie, you might have noticed the unusual use of ‘slow motion’.
Naturally, the renowned filmmaker is well aware of that, and during an interview with Wired, he discussed why and how he approaches those kinds of scenes and the kinds of rules he sets for himself and his team while filming.

Additionally, when asked why Rebel Moon uses slow motion so much, the 300 director gave an “obvious” yet insightful response, stating that the slow motion is “awesome”.

Few modern blockbuster filmmakers draw as sharply divided reactions from critics and general audiences as Zack Snyder. For every review that praises Snyder’s remarkable ability to create grand, fantastical visual imagery on film, there will be another review criticizing the filmmaker’s overreliance on slow motion and weak plot points. Let us take a look at Snyder’s filmography, and the critical reaction to his works as determined by Rotten Tomatoes.
Dawn of the Dead (2004), Tomatometer: 76% Zombies attack in Dawn of the Dead
Zack Snyder‘s maiden effort as a director remains his most critically successful venture. In 2004, Zack Snyder presented the world with his dramatic reimagining of George Romero’s classic horror tale of a zombie invasion. The slick, visually compelling action scenes coupled with a strong screenplay by James Gunn help elevate the film above your run-of-the-mill horror remakes.
Dawn of the Dead is now available for streaming on Starz.

You know that famous quote commonly attributed to Alexander the Great about how he wept when there were no more worlds to conquer? We're starting to think that Zack Snyder feels much the same way, except that his version of conquering the world is more about finding ways to re-release his movies with extra footage attached at all costs.
To be fair, this isn't exactly a new phenomenon for Snyder. His 2004 "Dawn of the Dead" reboot eventually led to an unrated cut down the line and his comic book movie "Watchmen" ended up with several different versions post-release. He pulled the same trick once again with both "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and, most infamously, his "Zack Snyder's Justice League" experiment that resulted in a completely different movie altogether compared to the theatrical cut. He's planning on returning to the exact same well with his two-part "Rebel Moon" epic...

John Orloff, the co-creator of Apple TV+ miniseries Masters of the Air, has signed with UTA for representation in all areas.
The move comes after Orloff signed with Verve for representation in January, the same month his high profile and high priced war drama launched. However, in February, the agency became embroiled in an internal battle amongst partners, resulting in the ousting of founding partner Bill Weinstein. Several lit clients were caught up in the churn. Brian K. Vaughan, the comics author and screenwriter, also switched agencies and signed with UTA in March.
Orloff adapted the acclaimed memoir by Mariane Pearl, A Mighty Heart, into a 2007 drama that starred Angelina Jolie and counted Brad Pitt as among its producers. He earned an Independent Spirit Award nomination for best first screenplay for his script.

He might not get his wish, but Zack Snyder is keen to shoot more footage for a Sucker Punch do-over.
I know one person precisely who’s a massive fan of Zack Snyder’s 2011 movie Sucker Punch. I know lots of people who are, well, less keen.
Amongst the many films that Snyder has made, it’s the one that’s got the worse reviews (now that Justice League has been sorted out anyway). It’s also the one that’s hit the most disappointing levels at the box office too. You could be forgiven for thinking that Zack Snyder would just walk away from it, and get on with his myriad of other projects.
But that, chums, is not the Zack Snyder way. His new films, the two Rebel Moon movies, are arriving with extended cuts pretty much built in. Now, he’s talking about Sucker Punch also getting a revisit.

When Is The Netflix Animated Series Twilight Of The Gods Coming? Well, Zack Snyder, the renowned filmmaker, is embarking on another exciting collaboration with Netflix through the animated series “Twilight of the Gods,” which draws inspiration from the rich tapestry of Norse mythology.
Following his directorial work on “Army of the Dead” and his role as a producer for “Army of Thieves,” Snyder’s creative journey at Netflix expands further with projects like “Rebel Moon” and the collaborative effort with Jay Oliva, “Twilight of the Gods.”
While initial discussions about this venture surfaced in 2019, the official confirmation from Netflix arrived in June 2021, solidifying the anticipation around the project. One can say a lot of things about director Zack Snyder, the filmmaker behind "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole" and "300," but he can never be accused of working small. Snyder has made a métier out of turning schlocky, action-packed fantasy entertainments into outsized, ponderous, navel-gazing four-hour bouts of grandiloquent bombast. Snyder is the credited director on four interconnected films in Warner Bros.' DC comics film series, and served as executive producer on five others in the same series. His films tend to be...

Two things that Zack Snyder very clearly loves are genre films and expansive mythologies. Indeed, at this stage of his career, it seems pretty unlikely that you’ll find him directing a low budget drama or a straightforward crime thriller, with his entire filmography characterized by flashy visuals and fantastical narratives.
Snyder’s upcoming Netflix original Army of the Dead marks his second foray into zombie territory, while the rest of his output is comprised of five comic book adaptations, animated family film Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole, which was based on a book series, and psychological fantasy blockbuster Sucker Punch. In fact, Army of the Dead is just his second ever movie based on an original concept after the latter, and his first in a decade.
The 54 year-old is known for crafting intricate and complex universes around his films, and his latest effort looks to be no different.

Lord knows filmmaker Zack Snyder has a) been working on the zombie movie “Army Of The Dead” for what feels like an exorbitantly long time and b) has a checkered history with working with Warner Bros. — though to be fair, they were extremely on #TeamSnyder for several years, giving him “Man Of Steel,” and the keys to the Dceu universe even after expensive flops like “Suckerpunch,” and the underperforming “Guardians of Ga’Hoole” and “Watchmen.”

Zack Snyder has directed eight movies during his career, with the ninth arriving this year when zombie heist actioner Army of the Dead hits Netflix, and so far he’s revisited five of them. Indeed, Snyder seems to have the Ridley Scott problem, where he can’t leave any of his films alone for too long before diving back in to make some alterations.
His debut feature Dawn of the Dead was given a Director’s Cut that ran for ten minutes longer, his preferred version of Watchmen added an extra 24 minutes of footage, and the Ultimate Cut is the lengthiest comic book movie ever made at a butt-numbing 216 minutes. Sucker Punch, meanwhile, arrived on home video bundled with an Extended Cut, the Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition runs for an extra half an hour and is vastly superior to the theatrical release, and there’s also...

Zack Snyder has always been a filmmaker with R-rated sensibilities, and if you want to split hairs, then just two of his seven movies to date are what you would call family-friendly outings. The animated Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole is the only one of his directorial efforts rated PG, while Man of Steel was slapped with a PG-13 for ‘intense sequences of sci-fi violence, action and destruction, and for some language.’
Snyder has basically disowned the theatrical cut of Justice League, which pretty much makes it a Joss Whedon film, while his preferred vision for both Sucker Punch and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice yielded extended editions that were R-rated and vastly superior. Following on from a July where they added a large number of horror titles to their catalogue, Hulu have now made available even more great outings from the genre. As with all the major streaming players, keeping subscribers happy with new content during this Covid-19 year has been crucial, especially given the new competitors that have sprung up in recent months, further splintering film rights. Hulu are usually pretty reliable in terms of diversity, though, and have added some particularly strong horror titles for August.
Among the highlights for new movies is the original 1988 Child’s Play, which introduced the murderous Chucky to the world in a film that arguably remains the high-point of the franchise. A reasonably realistic setting, a convincing child performance and some excellent effects work make Child’s Play a classic of the period and more than worth a rewatch. We’re only just over halfway through July, but let’s hop ahead a couple of weeks into the future and take a look at what’s coming to Hulu in August. Next month will see the streaming service add an enormous list of movies and TV shows, with numerous classics amongst them, and everyone from horror to action to romance fans and even family audiences should be pleased with what’s coming.

If you were concerned about there being a content drought in August due to the coronavirus pandemic shutting down Hollywood, you were…absolutely right in those concerns.
For its new releases in August 2020, Hulu is following Apple, Disney, and even Peacock’s lead in taking things nice and slowly. The vast majority of the notable offerings here are of the library variety. Hulu adds classic movies like Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Rain Man, and Top Gun on August 1. Those go along with the very much still-holds-up Casino Royale on August 31.
Hulu also has room for some interesting recent indie movies like Ordinary Love (Aug. 3) and Peanut Butter Falcon (Aug. 6). But when it comes to Hulu original content there’s not much going on. The unheralded Find Me in Paris debuts its third season on August 21. That is followed by original comedy The Binge on August 28. And that’s about it!

New year, and a host of new Netflix additions to match.
While subscribers are currently mourning the loss of Friends – after going dark today, January 1st, the beloved sitcom won’t be available until HBO Max arrives in May – Netflix has today rolled out a bevy of fresh TV shows and movies to keep us entertained, including some truly unmissable horror properties.
From Event Horizon to Cloverfield, The Amityville Horror to the Tremors franchise, Netflix’s horror category has officially been restocked. There’s plenty to choose from, too, including the 2002 rendition of The Ring, which only makes us long for a competent retelling of the Japanese horror legend to right the wrongs of Rings (2017). At least we have the upcoming Grudge reboot to look forward to on Friday (or January 24th if you happen to be located in the United Kingdom).

Superhero television is legitimately back on the CW. Yes, Marvel’s Agent Carter is also back and doing okay in the excitement department (and meta references thanks to Howard Stark’s Kid Colt movie), and Supergirl is chugging along with her morality tales through the lens of a soap opera, but it’s the CW slate that is still the most risky and comic-book-like in its execution.
There are occasionally runs in print comics where a character or crossover event is enough up my alley that each week finds me buying multiple books to keep up. Before going into The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones earlier this week I searched all over to find out if it was in 3D. It wasn't, but why wouldn't it bec It costs just a few million extra to post-convert and then you can price gouge the consumer under the lie 3D makes the experience better when in fact it just makes the picture blurry and requires special glasses to make sure it's in focus. I've seen only a few films where I can say the 3D had any effect on the viewing experience. Hubble 3D in IMAX was amazing, the 3D animation in Zack Snyder's Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole was impressive even though the movie stunk, I actually thought some of the helicopter shots in World War Z were quite impressive and Avatar had its moments. Overall, though, you could get rid of 3D...

It has been a long, bumpy, rumor-filled road from 2006's "Superman Returns" across seven years to this Friday's "Man Of Steel." The crown jewel in the Warner Bros. comic book stable along with Batman, getting this franchise back on track has been a priority and naturally, the project was floated by a number of big names before Zack Snyder finally signed on in the fall of 2010. But before the reboot got to him, some much bigger names than Snyder were considered, and apparently one of them came very close. THR reports that Darren Aronofsky (first rumored a couple months before Snyder eventually got the gig) was a "finalist" to direct the movie, with WB honcho Jeff Robinov eventually going with Snyder who had made four movies with the studio ("300," "Watchmen," "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole," and "Sucker Punch") and had the blessing of executive producer Christopher Nolan.

‘Tis the season… for costly 3D animated blockbusters! The newest animated confection to roll out of the major studio pipeline, just a few short weeks after the sweetly charming retro-romp “Wreck-It Ralph,” is “Rise of the Guardians,” the last film from DreamWorks Animation to be distributed by Paramount Pictures (next year, Fox will take over those duties). “Rise of the Guardians” collects various characters from mythology and folklore and puts them together into an “Avengers”-style super-team (Alec Baldwin is Santa Claus, Chris Pine is Jack Frost, Hugh Jackman is the Easter Bunny and Isla Fisher is the Tooth Fairy), to ward off the evil boogeyman Pitch (Jude Law). Is “Rise of the Guardians” the stuff of legend, or merely something that will (ever-so-briefly) get you away from your more annoying family members this holiday season? Let's find out. I've heard a lot of great things about Jeff Smith's Bone over the years, and yet I still know next to nothing about it. The black-and-white indie comic was published between 1991 and 2004 and spanned some 65 issues. Apparently the series revolves around three white, bald creatures who also happen to be cousins named Phoncible P. "Phoney" Bone, Smiley Bone, and Fone Bone, who are exiled from their hometown of Boneville. It is an epic fantasy series with a lighthearted, comedic tone and was eventually re-released in colour through Scholastic, selling over a million copies. With those kind of numbers, it makes sense that someone would want to turn it into a movie; Warner Brothers acquired the rights back in 2008 and are just now starting to move forward with it. Last week they announced that P.J. Hogan (Peter Pan) will direct the film from a script written by Patrick Sean Smith...

The comic ran from 1991 to 2004 and followed three cousins - Fone Bone, Phoney Bone and Smiley Bone - who become lost in a strange valley and caught up in an ancient conflict with an evil force called the Lord of the Locusts.
Warner Bros picked up the screen rights back in 2008 and, according to HeatVision, it's now been resuscitated.

Last year Chris Lord and Phil Miller, writers and directors of the great CGI animated film Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, were hired to direct [1] the movie. Now Warner Bros. has greenlit their Lego approach, which will be a live-action/animation hybrid, with about 80% of the film animated at Australian animation house Animal Logic (Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole). But there's an additional name in the mix, too: Robot Chicken director Chris McKay has been enlisted to co-direct with Lord and Miller. Variety [2] doesn't offer any more story details than the very basic statement that the film will be "an action-adventure set in the Lego world." John Orloff, writer of Roland Emmerich's upcoming Shakespeare-themed thriller Anonymous, is to pen a new Battlestar Galactica film for Bryan Singer.
Following Singer's earlier admission that this will be his next project after Jack The Giant Killer, it's been revealed by Deadline that Orloff is closing a deal with Universal Pictures.
A report on Hitfix says he got the job after Singer saw Anonymous and really liked it, adding: "Singer had talked to the writer about Battlestar Galactica being a sort of Shakespearean story, fathers and sons painted against a big interstellar canvas."
Orloff also wrote Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole and A Mighty Heart, starring Angelina Jolie. He was nominated for an Emmy for Band of Brothers.

It's a Martin Scorsese 3D family film! Sure, that might seem like one of the less likely sentences ever written, but that was before Hugo, which sees the cinephile director adapt Brian Selznick's delightful (and cinema-loving) children's book The Invention Of Hugo Cabret for the big screen. And here's the new international trailer. We've already had one trailer, of course, but this new one offers a few new tidbits from the film, and the sight of Scorsese himself discussing his plans. From what we can see here, we feel confident in saying that it's going to look breathtaking and that Sacha Baron Cohen is going to have a close encounter with a cake. It's not a great trailer, sure, and minus marks for using the same tune as Legend Of The Guardians: The Owls Of Ga'hoole, but we're still expecting the film to be rather special. brightcove.createExperiences();The film stars Chloe Moretz,...

I'll begin with news that Mark Romanek is now the frontrunner to direct The Lost Symbol as Ron Howard will not return to direct the third film in Dan Brown's franchise focusing on Harvard religious expert and symbologist Robert Langdon played by Tom Hanks. Howard directed The Da Vinci Code and followed that up with Angels & Demons in 2009, but was expected to move to The Dark Tower after that, but once that fell through he began work on Rush, the Formula 1 racing featuring starring Chris Hemsworth, which will hit theaters next year. Romanek, on the other hand, was briefly on the shortlist to direct The Wolverine after last year's Never Let Me Go. He ultimately passed on Wolverine saying, "That script was a terrific version of that kind of thing, but not something I felt really passionate about," which brings us to today. Yesterday brought good news for fans of Battlestar Galactica. In the report that said Bryan Singer's plans to remake Excalibur were axed, it was said that Singer would be picking up the classic sci-fi project instead, having been officially attached to the project since 2009. But with Singer currently working on Jack The Giant Killer, nobody expected the movie to start coming together immediately. It looks like that was a false assumption. According to Deadline, the project is already moving forward and writer John Orloff has been hired to write the script. Emmy nominated for his work on Band of Brothers, Orloff's feature work includes scripts for Zack Snyder's Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole and Roland Emmerich's Anonymous, which will be released next week.
