Silly and predictable movie, but it is good to see Lindsay back.
Lady_Targaryen7 October 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Thea Clayhill is the secretary of the arrogant publisher Jerry Steinwald. She hates her job and she cannot wait to do something more meaningful, but all she gets are stupid chores like taking care of Jerry's pet. One day, after being distracted, an accident happens with Jerry's dog, and he, angry and tired of her terrible job, decides to fire her. Thea lies pretending that is pregnant to not lose the job, specially because after her parents died in a car accident, Thea needs to raise her younger sister Emma alone. Since he cannot fire a pregnant woman, Thea can keep her job, but she needs to use fake bellies and to fake her pregnancy to not make people suspicious. Jerry decides to stay out of the company for a while, during his dog's recovery, and his younger brother Nick, assumes his position. Nick is very different from Jerry, and besides being charming, he is a very nice guy. He and Thea start to work together in a search for a new incredible book, and Nick uses Thea's pregnancy to help him to publish a great book about pregnancy. The only problem is: For how much time can Thea keep this fake pregnancy?

' Labor Pains' is a very predictable movie, full of clichés, but it is a nice and soft romantic comedy to watch. The situations are totally unreal , but the movie itself is not a total waste of time ( although is not a masterpiece either). The pregnancy theme is something that I usually like, and it was good to see Lindsay in a role of an adult woman. In fact, she is doing good in this film and is nice to see her back, playing a more respectful character then the ones of most of her previous movies. Watching this movie even makes you forget all her drug- alcohol addiction that happens in her life and that she usually is famous for.

predictable but cute and charming enough
jimakros3 September 2009
Many people hate Lindsay Lohan.Thats a fact of life and to a point she brought this onto herself with her lifestyle and crazy tabloids. So,she's easy prey for anyone looking for anything she does which is less than great. This movie is much, much, much better than they will make you think it is.Its an average rom-com,on the weaker side but not bad at all.I've seen dozens of worse rom-coms and even more worse movies that people will call acceptable. But they don't star Lindsay Lohan. Personally i like Lindsay as an actress and especially in this type of movie where she can walk through this material blindfolded. She just has a natural gift for this type of disneyesque rom-com.She is also a doll.I don't like her tabloids but this didn't bother me in enjoying this movie. Especially at a time when, one is bombarded with all kinds of silly monster-alien-robot movies, such innocent cute movies are a breath of fresh air.

Average movie . Wouldn't watch it twice !!!
landriau214 July 2009
Although it was nice to see Lindsay lohan again in a movie ( i like her very much ) :) : the story is kinda lame and the acting is pretty bad . Still a few laugh but overall I'm disappoint . it looked very good from the trailer .

download the screener or rent if you like lohan but don't buy it .

This movie wont 'bring Lindsay lohan career to the top ' i wouldn't have see a theatrical release . Straight to DVD is what it deserve IMO .

very average .. and the acting is pretty bad ( except Lindsay ) still better than Hottie or nottie or other Paris Hilton flick .

Its rate 4.1 right now ... it deserve it IMO . maybe a 5 max .

Nowhere near as good as Mean girl or Just my luck . This is not a movie you want to watch twice .

Milennium Pictures should stick with action movies
Wizard-814 July 2010
In a bizarre change of pace, direct-to-video action kings Millennium Pictures made this strange little movie. The plot is ripped off from the French movie "The Closet" - in that film, a man pretended he was gay so he wouldn't get fired, and in this film, Lohan pretends she's pregnant so she won't lose her job. It still could have been funny, being able to go off in different directions, but it falls flat. It was obviously shot on a limited budget and hastily filmed. Lohan is badly photographed and seems to have been without makeup. (And her character doesn't come across as a likable person.) You get to see the shadows of camera equipment TWICE. There seems to be footage missing or that was not filmed - Lohan's boyfriend, for example, is introduced in the opening minutes, and is not seen again for a half hour! (And we never see her talking to him about her scheme.) It's also never explained why Lohan for the longest time keeps her sister in the dark about what she's doing. But the worst thing about the movie is that it's not very funny. It's surprisingly low-key, when it should have been zanier. I didn't laugh once, chuckle once, or even smile once at any of the script's situations and dialogue. Maybe I'm not the audience for this movie - it seems aimed at women - but I think its true audience will be as disappointed with this movie as I am.

Just Plain Creepy....
KMRocky9 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was cute at first but then it just starts to get weird.

Lindsay Lohan plays a girl pretending to be pregnant so she doesn't loose her job, she sticks with the lie for so long she starts to believe it herself.

Then the movie just gets weird. She says she can't smoke or drink, it's not allowed when you're pregnant. She also goes as far as to buying baby clothes and supplies.

It wasn't a complete waste of time if you like a cheesy comedy about a woman discovering her strengths... in a very odd and twisted way.

Watch it if you like these types of movies but as for me I don't think I'll be watching this one again.

Bland and not all that good. It just doesn't work
dbborroughs4 August 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Lindsay Lohan stars as a young women who pretends to be pregnant so not to get fired. The bluff wins her perks so she keeps it up longer and longer. Bland comedy isn't bad but it never rises above the level of a lesser TV movie. The cast, is good but not great mostly I think because they aren't given anything to do. Lohan, the only one I can put a name to a face, is as good as she can be, but again she isn't really given anything to do.(and she should never work with her make up man again since he makes her look older than her 20 odd years in age). The best thing I can say is that its not the total disaster I expected that sent it straight to video. I'm sure that the film is going to end up in some form of eternal rotation on some cable channel in the near future. I'd wait until that happens before seeing it.

Labour Fails suits this title better
lukaszsw31 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
To be honest I really had more fun watching these "Based on the true story" titles my mother is keen on watching. This title is full of clichés, the plot is incomprehensible and the acting is mediocre at best.

Thea Clayhill (Lindsay Lohan) is assistant to an editor and her job is very lousy (to say the least). She is very hardworking and she has to support her little sister Emma (Bridgit Mendler). She dates a local sandwich guy. When she steps on her bosses foot once too much he fires her but retracts his decision when she says she is pregnant (she isn't really). She steals a fake belly off the manikin in the store, comes to work and everybody buys it immediately.

The worst thing about this movie is that everything feels unbelievable and underdeveloped. Are there really such publishing offices where every single male i sexist to the female secretary? How can a place like that still make an income when the main editor is caring about his dog 100 times more than about the books? They also say that the office is quite successful. The biggest question is why would anybody pretend to be pregnant to save the worst job in the world? Especially that it is established that Thea is hardworking.

There suppose to be some discovery from the main character about the hardship of being pregnant but it all boils down to a single-sentence statements about the whole thing. To think that a pillow can pass as a pregnant belly for months is simply atrocious.

We are suppose to believe that Thea has to put up with the job because she has a sister to support but their struggle seems nonexistent. Neither of the sister is bothered by their parents death (mabe it happened years ago), which itself is mentioned so briefly that suggest that even the director didn't think of it much. Even though this suppose to be the force behind Lindsay holding to the job.

The cast makes the most of what the script is but because of their honest approach (as if this was a regular blockbuster) it seems even less entertaining. There is absolutely no chemistry between the male lead and Lindsay. As if every discriminated woman would fall for the first guy that shows them affection. The first relationship that she is in is even more bizarre - her boyfriend is a sandwich stand guy with two or three lines in the movie: one about the sandwiches and one to

get her humiliated so the character can be discarded.

I have to say I smiled a couple of times during the movie because of oddly inserted jokes like the breading lessons instructor "borrowing" a husband of one of the women in the class. But thats merely enough to push the movie to mediocre territory and certainly to little to wash the bad aftertaste of all of the other jokes.

From the cast my favorite is the cocky little sister Emma. Bridgit Mendler seem right at home and act almost effortlessly. That is in contrast of Lindsay Lohan who, I have to say, seems inappropriate for the transition to mature roles (or maybe to very lousy ones) I'm giving it 3/10 for some rare mediocre jokes and Bridgit Mendler but the lasting impression is that I watched Straight-to-garbage production.

I liked it
luciabcn866 October 2020
I recently became a mother myself, and so "fondly" remember being pregnant. Although i realise that this movie is about a fake pregnancy, many of the things that happen and the reactions of the people around her are realistic and made me feel reminiscent of my pregnant days. I kind of understood why she started to get into faking it. It isn't a blockbuster movie but it does feel close to home, which ironically is what the book in the movie is trying to do too, by showing a real insight into a pregnant woman's life and how pregnancy changes you. Overall i enjoyed it and did laugh in places.

Not Just Labor Pains... My Whole Body Aches
sarahjanmaat-18 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I managed to sit through the better part of an hour of this film. I could not believe just how truly pathetic it was. I mean, the movie was trying, desperately, to be funny, and failed so many times. Time and time and time again, actually. Lindsay can't carry a film on her own, and the supporting cast just seemed to be there for the pay cheque.

A weak plot of Lindsay's character working in a publishing house, trying to support herself and her sister after the death of their parents (through a car accident, of course, because that's how the parents always get bumped off...) sees the main character seconds away from being fired until s he gets the 'brilliant' idea to claim she's pregnant.

Seriously, if you're a die-hard fan of Lohan, maybe that'll be enough for you. But not even the brief, brief, brief appearance of Garafalo could keep me awake through this...

Low-budget winner, for romcom fans; Lohan is funny and sweet, Hines is also very comedic
inkblot1125 February 2010
Thea (Lindsay Lohan) has been dealt a bad hand in the game of life, recently. After her parents were killed in an auto crash, she was forced to quit college and take charge of her high school aged sister. Since she lives in the Los Angeles area, expenses are high and it is a struggle. Thea slaves away at a relatively low-paying job as a personal assistant to a neurotic publisher. Her only allies and confidants are an associate publisher, Lisa (Cheryl Hines) and a goofy boyfriend, Miles (Aaron Yoo). But, one day, the boss' cherished pooch has an accident and the publisher leaves town to take the doggy to a hotshot clinic for therapy. Blaming Thea, he tries to give her the axe for the canine's troubles. But, thinking quickly, Thea declares that she is pregnant and, according to law, an expectant mother can't be fired during the duration. Bossman leaves in a huff. Taking over is his younger brother, Nick (Luke Kirby) who is much better at making decisions about books and sales. He also recognizes that Thea has a talent for publishing and, due to her condition, will make an excellent choice for editing a new tome on pregnancy he wants to present. Thea gets a raise and a new assignment. But, will everything fall apart when the firm realizes she's not expecting? And, does Thea have "eyes" for her new boss? This was quite a pleasant little film, made more worthwhile by the appearances of Lohan and Hines. For all her bad publicity, Lohan is a genuinely comic performer, with a dose of innocence and sweetness lacking in many other actresses her age. She does fine work here and is a joy to watch. Hines, on the other hand, is excellent at black humor and she contributes a big helping of comic edginess. The rest of the cast, mostly unknowns, are very nice, too. The settings, costumes, and production values are average, as befits a low-budget flick. Especially lacking was money for a good hair stylist, for Lohan's tresses are a messy tangle. Nevertheless, this movie is a good way to relax and have some fun after work hours. Romcom fans, take note.

worse than "I Know Who Killed Me", which is something of an accomplishment
Quinoa198426 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Labor Pains is drek on a warped stick of the offensive illogical sort that always bugs me in movies. It made its way from its original destination of theatrical distribution to TV, and it was more than the right decision. Out of all of the tumbles that the talented Lindsay Lohan (yes, talented, there is something there) has had in recent years, most notably the fun-bad psycho-trip of I Know Who Killed Me, this is by far the blightiest of blights. It's one of those premises that one snickers at when first hearing, but is clever to the average viewer, on paper: career girl at a publishing house is about to be fired by her uptight boss when she lies in saying she's pregnant, only to have to keep up the lie for months around her co-workers. If you think you know everything you're about to see here, you're more than correct, and that's worse than anything.

Nothing is funny here, not a joke connects or works, and if it weren't for the very brief appearance of Creed from the Office it would be abominable. The screenplay is at the heart of it; it's one of those s***-bag scripts that somehow gets past the readers at the production officers (perhaps in spite of their hopefully scathing synopses and critiques), and makes its way through production without the filmmakers or cast questioning what the hell is going on here. It almost becomes oddly interesting in a way the makers didn't intend and subconsciously I wonder if Lohan even knew. It comes closest at making sense as a semi-allegory for Lohan's current state in Hollywood: a working girl who gets stuck lying about something she can't really control, and keeps up the lie, sticking with it as a compulsion despite the few who really know what's going on with all their might telling her "STOP IT", with the consequences quite absurd and tragic. More so absurd, I guess.

But, really, it shouldn't matter ultimately what Lohan does with herself in her private life, as long as she can be in material that rises to the level of worth and entertainment of Mean Girls in 2004. Labor Pains makes an attempt, and perhaps succeeds, at putting a gigantic crater-sized dent in that career she's building up. It's a clichéd comedy that is both stilted and boring, predictable and hackneyed, unbelievable in character and story as well as directed with at best a kind of lame competency that might get the director and producers work again, if luck prevails on careful use for a reel. Or maybe it's better at the bottom of the $1 bin at Wal-Mart. Beware of this preggo-baby rom-com swill! 1.5/10

An "okay" comedy. Accepted. You'll laugh some times
renatomecampinas15 December 2020
It's a traditional comedy movie. It demonstrates a very big lie and nobody finds out. In other words, if you watch it, don't expect to see logic in the movie, because sometimes there is no

Lindsay Loha has a good acting but her character is a little crazy (probably to be able to make the movie fun)

Some scenes have a little of "forced humor", but in the end it completes the goal of provide a fun time

If you like simple comedies, with no commitment to reality you'll like this movie.

Great to watch on a rainy afternoon in vacation like I did 😋🏝

Almost Pregnant
claudio_carvalho9 August 2010
Thea Clayhill (Lindsay Lohan) is the reckless secretary of the arrogant publisher Jerry Steinwald (Chris Parnell) in the Steinwald Publishing. When Jerry fires her for an accident with his beloved dog, Thea lies and tells that she is four-month pregnant. Thea lost his parents in a car accident and raises her younger sister Emma (Bridgit Mendler) alone and can not afford to lose her job. Jerry takes vacation to stay with his dog and his brother Nick Steinwald (Luke Kirby) assumes his position and promotes. Thea decides to fake her pregnancy for a couple of more days with the support of her friend Lisa (Cheryl Hines). However her life changes for better and Thea is promoted to editor by Nick and helps him to publish the unconventional book of Suzi Cavandish (Bonnie Somerville) about pregnancy. Nick and Thea fall in love for each other but Thea does not stop the farce despite the advices of Lisa until the day truth appears.

"Labor Pains" is flawed, silly and predictable; but it is also delightful, charming, and cute and I liked this film. I am a fan of the talented Lindsay Lohan and for me it is very difficult to associate her image of sweet and gorgeous actress to her personal life of drug addicted, scandals and paparazzi. In the movie, Lindsay Lohan is very beautiful and her situation faking a pregnancy is funny and I really found this movie very entertaining. My vote is six.

Lacking
shakerahathaway6 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Who knew pretending to be pregnant could be so easy? Lindsey Lohan pulled it off effortlessly in her 2009 movie "Labor Pains" directed by Lara Shapiro. Thea (Lindsay Lohan) is left struggling to care for her little sister Emma (Bridget Mendler) after both their parents die in a car crash. Thea Clayhill is the reckless secretary of arrogant publisher Jerry Steinwald. When Jerry fires her for allowing his dog to eat soap it results in Thea lying and telling him she is four months pregnant. Regardless, Jerry believes her and allows her to stay. When Thea receives special attention for being pregnant she realizes she likes her life better that way, so with the help of her friend Lisa and a foam baby bump Thea keeps up the ruse for as long as she can. This movie's plot is all over the place and very unbelievable, for her stomach is extremely flat yet without any form of proof of her claim the entire office believes her without a second thought. It'd be easy to comment on how Lindsay Lohan's and her career have gone from the A-list to struggling star. With the release of Labor Pains, she's officially on the direct-to-DVD list. That in itself isn't a bad thing as an increasing number of films are going this route but the movie really is that bad and no distribution method could have saved it. And that's too bad because there was some solid potential for the film's premise. It just truly felt like all those involved in the production of Labor Pains were there to pass time rather than make something great or just plain entertaining. Labor Pains plays it so straight that it's truly hard to gauge what it's trying to say, even if it's not trying to say anything at all. There's too much going on in the story to make me think the original concept was to make a mindless comedy but the final film shows a frustrating follow through in almost every respect. As a result, Labor Pains is a painful bore. By bringing up things and not going through with them, it leaves much in the air. For example, Thea starts the film with a boyfriend and all of a sudden she breaks it off even though he's supportive of her and doesn't make any colossal screw-ups. An on-the-fly script change perhaps to allow for more of a romantic comedy spin, perhaps? And there's Jerry, another important part of the early script who disappears for much of the second and third acts before dropping by at the end. So much time is spent early on establishing these two as important parts of Thea yet they're ultimately wasted in the final product. One, at least, serves as a plot point. But this could have been done in a much faster and streamlined fashion, which would have opened up a little room to look at at least one of the many unexplored parts that are raised. Labor Pains feels like it suffers from a lack of passion. There's nothing that stands out in any way from the script to the directing to the acting. I can't speak for those involved with it but I got a very real sense of apathy from the final product just by watching it. And for me, it's really hard to get behind something when you don't think those on the front lines are behind it either.

Unrealistic and predictable but also witty and somewhat charming
musicalfreakgurl22 October 2019
It's not secret that Lindsey has had her bad days but she's actually the person who carries this movie. There are secondary actors who aren't bad either but with the script and lines, it's sometimes lacking.

While it is predictable and unrealistic there are moments where it's actually quite nice and witty. There's a Lamaze scene that I just can't get over.

If you can overlook it's flaws, it's a movie that you can enjoy.

Not as bad as you might have heard.
el711 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
It ain't great, though. Labor Pains is a farce in which a secretary in a toxic workplace fakes a pregnancy to avoid getting fired, and it starts off with a fallacy. You can, in fact, get fired while pregnant. You just can't get fired for *being* pregnant. This movie makes no distinction between the two concepts, determined to hang onto its gimmick, and Lohan's character gets talked into extending the fakery by her best friend played by Hines, a character who later winds up being the one to tell her she's going too far. With the plan she came up with in the first place. There are so many inconsistencies in this movie, but the actors keep up the farcical tone well enough that a casual viewer is willing to keep watching. This movie is like seasonal flavored potato chips: you know you're gonna regret it later, but in the moment you can't resist. The soundtrack is also excellent, helping the ridiculous excuse for a plot go along more easily.

Not Joan Jett enough.....
FlashCallahan4 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Thea is the secretary of arrogant publisher Jerry. When he tries to fire her for bad mouthing him, Thea lies and tells him that she is four-months pregnant.

Thea lost her parents in a car accident and raises her sister Emma, so she cannot afford to lose her job.

Jerry goes on vacation, and his brother Nick assumes his position.

She decides to fake her pregnancy for more time than necessary though, and Nick has taken a shine to her.....

First off, it's a high concept movie, that would have been huge in the early nineties if it starred Meg Ryan. It's nothing we haven't seen before, with tropes galore and the inevitable love sub plot.

But it's watchable enough, Lohan proves that she has charisma, just bad life choices, and the rest of the cast are amiable enough.

Don't expect too much from the movie, and you'll enjoy it for what it is, pointless fluff...

Not the best Lindsay Lohan film I've seen
lisafordeay4 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Labor Pains is a direct to DVD movie that came out in 2009 and tells the story about a young woman named Thea(Lohan) who is about to get fired from her job,but pretends to be pregnant in order to keep her job, only for it to backfire as she uses a prosthetic belly and a balloon to give her the image of being pregnant. So how long can she keep up the facade without getting blown?.

It's not the best Lindsay Lohan film so is it worth watching no. The plot is very predictable since it's a romantic comedy and I knew that her and Nick would end up being together in the end.

Also stars Holiday Engagement star Bonnie Sommerville and Bridgit Mendler.

Watch The Parent Trap instead or Life Size.

Lindsay's Back
jorge_nital11 January 2010
Didn't expect too much of this flick, and I was quite surprised with what I found.

Of course is not the best romantic comedy ever, it has a lot of cliché situations and silly jokes, but there's a spark between actors, there's chemistry between Cheryl Hines (who is the best in this movie), Bridgit Mendler and Lindsay Lohan turning ridiculous situations into funny moments, the director found a good balance between them, making a nice and really charming movie that if you have some spare time you can check out and it's not just a total waste of time. The bad ratings must be Lohan's haters.

Someone gave Lohan another chance and she took advantage of it, it's not bad as her latest films (considering that her only good flick is Mean Girls, it's not much what I'm saying).

Anyway, I think it was a good idea to go to a more independent thing so people can begin trusting in her again. And for sure you will enjoy.

Not worth the watch
AngelHonesty10 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I had a hard time getting through this film, especially when it kept hinting at how it was going to end. The acting was terrible, nothing about the movie was funny and so many things made me cringe. Why did this make it to film. I see how the idea of the movie about someone faking a pregnancy could have been good. If they would have chosen better actors, better script, and made it less predictable and cliche it might of had some potential! The worst part of the entire movie was the unrealistic ending. If a person in real life lied and prayed on your sympathies, about being pregnant, I don't think EVERYONE would forgive her, letting her get the dream job, friends and perfect guy. I think in reality you would think this person has some mental issues and needs help.

Despite the clichés and the film is a little slow and without twists, turns out to be a good fun
fernandoschiavi9 February 2024
The director Lara Shapiro, who had in the curriculum just short as Crawl (1994), Tipped (1996) and Disney's American Legends (2001), directs his first and only feature film to date. With a budget of $ 7 million and released directly to the TV the United States, the film has a synopsis already known and well exploited in other productions, but we have a chance here, because the film is very entertaining and fulfills its function well.

Thea Clayhill (Lindsay Lohan) is a young assistant working in a publishing house in Los Angeles alone and takes care of her younger sister Emma (Bridgit Mendler). Your boss Jerry (Chris Parnell) does not leave your feet till the day that time to fire her, she devises that are pregnant to save her job. Employing safe, Thea also starts to receive more attention from colleagues and like the idea. Without thinking of the consequences, she keeps the farce and passes to take advantage of the situation in all senses.

Lindsay Lohan, even though it only deployed in teen movies (Freaky Friday (2003), Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen (2004), Mean Girls (2004), Herbie: Fully Loaded (2005) , Just My Luck (2006), is clearly a talented actress as shown in Georgia Rule (2007) and Chapter 27 (2007). She has sensitivity, versatility, is beautiful and charismatic. Even in recent years had engaged in polemics personal and engaging professionally in productions such as I Know Who Killed Me (2007), she is one of those young actresses that can attract looks for productions that are involved.

The script's own director Lara Shapiro in partnership with Stacey Kramer, is one of the first films to show Lindsay in a character a little more mature, with more responsibilities, having to take care of the younger sister, has a job and no longer just a student. But still shows that she is still a young man, and therefore prone to making mistakes. Shown is a festival of clichés, and with five minutes of film already know what will be the end. Could clearly make more jokes and situations involving pregnant women and enjoy the fact that people do everything to please women when they are pregnant, exploring so much wider this universe. One of the best scenes is precisely the class of labor in women who are expecting their first baby are with their respective partners, in a typical situation for pregnant women. All the elements of a romantic comedy are present, with all its comings and goings, even with a little drama in the climax, and even the time the audience will wonder if the couple will really be together in the end.

One of the holes in the script and it was a good time is forced to belly pregnant four months which appears suddenly and despite the other characters think something different, just mentioning that they feel weird without the sudden appearance of the belly. But for the unfolding of the plot, this "poetic license" had to be in relief.

On the technical side the film presents several problems. Clearly the amateur aspect of production. Since common scenarios, the framework excessive close-ups seeking mitigate the problems art direction, to the lack of pace. Editing Anne McCabe is nothing agile, and coupled with soundtrack low and emotionless Andrew Hollander, greatly facilitate assessing a climate monotonous in various parts of the middle of the movie. The plot needs more rhythm, colors and soundtrack.

It's not among the best comedies of recent years, but it fulfills its role well for fun. It is a light comedy, unpretentious and can get good laughs in isolated moments. Despite the clichés and the film is a little slow and without twists, turns out to be a good NSA fun, and show us once again Lindsay stunning on screen. Luke Kirby achieves a good relationship with Lindsay and, moreover, good adjuvants as Cheryl Hines also contribute to the result. The film is far from original or show something new, but it works well and it is proposed to start genuine laughter during projection.

Almost mediocre
Reaper21 November 2017
Probably best known as "Lindsay Lohan's last major role in a motion picture," this is a movie about a woman who pretends to be pregnant in order to save her job.

Because this is a movie, her "pregnancy" instantly opens up new avenues for career advancement and personal fulfillment. The third act devolves into a kind of "let's fix the situation I made so everyone can be happy" more at home in a bad sitcom than a film.

And yet, there are small kernels of interest here. There is a scene or two where Lohan's character seems to think that she's actually pregnant. Had they actually persisted with a plot along these lines, and had an adequate star and production values, it might have been a decent (or at least interesting) movie. Instead, it seems cheap and slapdash.

Funny! Lindsay shines here.
Davi_Silva18 July 2009
Labor Pains tells the story of a woman (Lindsay) who pretends to be pregnant to avoid being fired from her job by her mean boss (Chris Parnell). And with the help of her best friend (Cheryl Hines), she tries to keep up with the lie for nine months. Lindsay Lohan is back, and she delivers a very good performance here, this movie is very funny, i laughed out loud a few times. It's definitely not theater material but it still worth it on a Saturday night on TV with your friends, just forget the fact that Lindsay is in it, it's a very cute movie.

Now i can't wait to see Lindsay again in The Other Side, it's gonna be so much better than this movie. But this movie it's still cool to watch.

Good Enough

"Labor Pains" is an office comedy about a woman who pretends to be pregnant in order to prevent getting fired and she starts believing it after she continues her lying.

The movie is enjoyable enough, with Lindsay Lohan handling her character mastefully, without overacting and nailing her comedy parts. The romance in this one is subtle and does feat in with the rest of the story.

And even though the plot is predictable, it is enjoyable and entertaining enough to keep the audience satisfied till the very ending.

The rest of the cast, finally, did a great job with their performances and aided their leading lady a lot.

How is this rated 4.8?? It's way too underated!

I skipped this movie a couple of times, thinking it is a bad movie if it has such a low rating. Usually I don't watch a movie if it's under 5 (out of 10), but I watched Labor Pains anyway, because first of all, I love Lindsey Lohan (aren't we all? Lol), and second of all, the trailer was looking nice and to my liking. I wanna tell you, I watched it and enjoyed it very much!!! I should say these kind of movies usually have a 5.9 stars from what I have seen in my experience, but still, it is totally more like a 7 or 8 for me! I really don't get it why it's so low starred! The movie had great acting, nice characters, nice viedography, had it all so give it a chance if you like fun liberating comedy.
