Tim Conway and Don Knotts had two years earlier worked as castmates in an episode of Steve Allen's comedy variety show (Charlton Heston, Rise Stevens, Jerry Vale, Jackie Mason (1960)). It would be another 13 years till the two comedians would team up regularly for a succession of three films for Walt Disney Productions/Buena Vista Distribution--The Apple Dumpling Gang (1975), Gus (1976) and The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again (1979), continuing the partnership with two more comedies for Tri-Star Productins/New World Pictures Distribution--The Prize Fighter (1979) and The Private Eyes (1980), and going to Warner Bros. for their last feature film together, participating in the all-star sequel Cannonball Run II (1984), also by that point having teamed up numerous times on TV including in Conway's early '80s sitcom in the episodes Melba Moore (1980) and Don Knotts (1980).
