Comedic Completent to The Rest of First Person Shooter Games
Movie_Chemist14 October 2014
This game seems to be a modern retelling of the plot of the 1970 movie Kelly's Heroes with Clint Eastwood, but I will not divulge the plot of the movie or the game. This game approaches the FPS Genre from a more comedic standpoint and is much less serious that the COD Series or other games like it. Each character had their own funny dialog to keep the mood light in the midst of the ongoing fighting. The controls are similar to those of other first person shooter games, but I am not a fan of how the controls are set up. The controls make it difficult to strafe the enemy when moving due to slow reaction time of the characters and difficulty associated with trying to keep the aim in focus. All in all, it was good game and would recommend it. Then again, I got a couple of years after it came out for pretty cheap, but it worth what I paid for it to me.

*Core childhood memory unlocked* I cannot tell you how many times I've played the campaign to this game. Back in the good ole Xbox 360 days, I didn't have an endless supply of games to play like there is now. Don't get me wrong; I had my gta, I had my call of duty, I still had games to play, but this game was still the one I played numerous times over. I'm not sure if it was the destructibility mechanics, or the semi open world , but the game definitely captivated me in many ways. You play as a guy named Preston, who along with the other bad company members, have been sent out on a secret mission only a rag tail of f-ups could complete. I still love all these characters; Sweetwater and Haggard are the comedians of the game, always at each others throats or just playing rock paper scissors for the helluva it. Redford is your captain, and while he is your classic commander character, they definitely still fleshed out his character and make him a truly awesome character. Speaking of the plot, it takes place in some fictional country that has become the battleground between Russia and America. But apparently, there are mercenaries too, and with lots of gold to be found, your objective changes as you stray further and further in enemy lines. The combat/ gameplay is probably the best part of the game, as you have plenty of explosives at your disposal. Using under barrel attachments to blow a hole in a house, or using air strikes to demolish an entire house that has a turret, the game wants you to blow as much s**t up as possible. Now, coming back to this game, I decided to play the campaign on its hardest difficulty, and to some extent, it really was difficult. The biggest thing was that there is absolutely no stealth whatsoever. Enemies would be able to see me across the map, and was stuck to mostly shooting from afar. The biggest hurdle though was the tank levels, in particular, one level where there's like 4 or more tanks patrolling, and me not having any kind of explosive that would blow up tanks, I was forced to run full speed at them and take them out by having each tank shoot each other. Like literally, there was no way to sneak or anything because the enemy knows you're there the second you peer over a hill. Although a little frustrating, I was able to beat it, and eventually the game, which I also should mention I gathered all the unlock-able achievements like finding all the gold, and shooting all the pickable weapons. Now, when I started playing the campaign, not too long afterwards, Dice announced they were shutting the servers down on bad company 1, 2, and 1943, so by time I finished the campaign, I basically went right into the online mode. And man, compared to Battlefield 1943, it was rough. All the players were obviously players that have played the game for years and years, so it took me awhile to actually get decent at the game. At the time though, I was playing so many other games, so I wasn't trying to get a lot of the achievements. I think really the only ones I tried and ended up getting is getting to rank 8, get 5 dog tags, and place #1 in a ranked match. The online was enjoyable, but not that fun to grind out the other achievements in such a short time. In all, despite the game having no online capabilities anymore, I'd recommend just to enjoy the solid campaign. This game was definitely ahead of its time when it got released, and in my opinion, still holds up to this day. Recommended for fans of 1st person shooters.

Oh wow I can destruct buildings...
evan_dow28 July 2022
So around the time this game came out people were so enthralled that this game has a certain level of destruction involved. Well, it does. But from what I heard and from what I have finally experienced what people said didn't do it justice.

Okay, so 2008. The Xbox 360 had been out for a few years by that time. But these horrible graphics I downloaded this game from the Microsoft Xbox Game Pass library. For the uninitiated the Game Pass game library is what you pay $30NZ dollars for every three months. This payment will allow you to access a selection of games (but come on lets be honest Microsoft ain't giving much away here) at about one hundred of them. So I paid $1NZ before the membership price got jacked back up to full price. It is basically an Xbox Live online service you pay for with your credit card without running off to the local EB Games to fall victim to an idiotic employee who doesn't know anything about gaming nor play any games on a console or personal computer. The selection is on the cheap mostly Xbox 360 games from years past now available for you to download, install and play when you can. But hey, any game should be worthwhile playing especially for achievement points right? Wrong.

I experienced, with Battlefield: Bad Company, freezing loading screens, being kicked out of the game when I was just getting started and when I was finally able to play, my squad were wearing grey coloured uniforms and I thought this is beyond a sick joke I felt frustrated as to why and how this was happening.

I downloaded and installed Battlefield: 1942 just the other week and I am cringing at the thought I will be experiencing problems with that game too.

Look. Buy this game and give it a whirl that's what I will generally say. But destroying peoples houses with a grenade launcher and a vehicle here and there is what your idea of destruction is? Go for it. What is ironic is when Battlefield 4 came out they were hyping that very aspect of gameplay. It was called, levelution. It had what Bad Company had but a skyscraper will collapse when you destroy the buildings foundations and it will come crashing down. People thought that was cool.

Don't believe the hype but play through it it can be a challenge but with my experience I would avoid it like the corona virus.

Until next time.

lovely story, mediocre gameplay

Battlefield Bad company is a game with a lovely story and presentation that is sadly down by bad to mediocre gameplay.

The music is good and I really like the characters in that dialogue, but sadly every time I have to go into gameplay.

I fell asleep because hitting the enemies with your bullets doesn't feel good and just walking from area to area feels tedious.

I know it feels like a battlefield game in multiplayer, Have the players have fall to sleep on their PC because it's just so empty and it is not fun hitting the enemy to feel like bulletssponge at the same time.

In summary, it's game with a lot of soul but bad execution.
