- Linnie Malcolm: [to Donnelly in court] I ran so I could get an abortion. I couldn't get an abortion in prison and I couldn't have that baby. I didn't care if I spent the rest of my life in jail, but the thought of his child growing inside me. That's why I came to see you. To say I'd plead guilty, if I could just end the pregnancy first, but you were so strong, so self-confident. I was ashamed of my weakness. I couldn't tell you. How could a woman like you ever understand a woman like me?
- Elliot Stabler: How did it go with Mia?
- Olivia Benson: Lousy. She's in a shelter, but I pushed her into it.
- Elliot Stabler: It's better than staying home and being a sitting duck for Mr. Guns & Ammo.
- Donald Cragen: [to Olivia after Mia is murdered by her husband] How you holding up?
- Olivia Benson: How do you think?
- Donald Cragen: You did everything you could.
- Olivia Benson: I could have collared her for filing a false rape report.
- Donald Cragen: I have never seen you lock up a victim.
- Olivia Benson: At least she'd still be alive.
- Donald Cragen: For how long? Sooner or later, she would have gone back to him. Mia made her choice, Liv.
- Olivia Benson: You saying it's her fault?
- Donald Cragen: No, but it's not yours, either.
- Linnie Malcolm: [to Donnelly after she recommends probation for Linnie] Why?
- Judge Elizabeth Donnelly: Because back then, I was trying so hard to be one of the boys, I forgot why I became a lawyer.
- Judge Elizabeth Donnelly: [to Olivia] Come to show me the error of my ways?
- Olivia Benson: You've spent your entire career protecting abused women and now you're going after one.
- Judge Elizabeth Donnelly: You don't know, do you?
- Olivia Benson: Know what?
- Judge Elizabeth Donnelly: Did you ask Linnie how she escaped?
- Olivia Benson: No. Does it matter?
- Judge Elizabeth Donnelly: She asked for a meeting to discuss a plea bargain. I let her use the bathroom, she crawled out the window.
- Olivia Benson: So, you took the fall.
- Judge Elizabeth Donnelly: For years, whenever a rookie A.D.A. pulled a stupid move it was known as doing a Donnelly. You have no idea what it was like in law enforcement back in those days. I fought to get assigned to the Homicide Bureau, but the D.A. didn't think it was a suitable job for a woman.
- Linnie Malcolm: [to Mia] I had a friend whose husband beat her. He said it was her fault. If she wasn't so stupid and worthless, he wouldn't have to hit her and she believed him, but she escaped and she found a man who would rather die than hurt her. That's what you deserve, Mia.
- Jonah Malcolm: [to the detectives] Welcome, welcome. This is a treat. I'm a huge crime buff. See, over here, I have everything from Wilkie Collins to George Pelecanos. Linnie? If we had a view, I'd be watching the neighbors like Jimmy Stewart in "Rear Window."
- Olivia Benson: [to Linnie] Mia's body is covered in bruises. Husband really did a number on her.
- Linnie Malcolm: She told you it was her husband?
- Olivia Benson: No. No, we haven't been able to speak with her alone.
- Linnie Malcolm: Then how do you know?
- Olivia Benson: The same way you know. The way she flinches when he comes toward her, the way she has fear in her eyes when he speaks, the way she wants to jump out of her skin sort of the way you are right now.
