Like many stars before her, Courteney Cox has decided to take a more hands-on approach to her TV show as she's gained a certain amount of clout in her career.
The one-time star of "Friends" and now lead on "Cougar Town," Cox won't just feature on camera this season -- she'll get a chance to call the shots from behind it, too. TVGuide reports -- and The Hollywood Reporter confirms -- that Cox will direct one of the show's new episodes. She's already an executive producer, and has directed a film short in 2008's "The Monday Before Thanksgiving."
Cox joins a long tradition of TV stars branching out to helm takes of their own show. Last season, Paul Adelstein directed an episode of "Private Practice," John Slattery helmed an episode of "Mad Men," Jason Priestly directed an episode and starred in an arc of sci-fi show "Haven" that will air this season,...

Courteney Cox is to direct an episode of Cougar Town. The former Friends actress is already an executive producer of the series as well as its lead star, and for one episode in the forthcoming series she will also work behind the camera. Though best known as an actress, Courteney has directed before, helming the 2008 short film The Monday Before Thanksgiving. While the show's executive producers - Bill Lawrence and Kevin Biegel - are happy with both Courteney and the programme's viewing figures, they are upset with its title, and earlier this year launched an appeal to find a new name.

San Diego Comic-Con is on and in full force! So, as the tumbleweeds blow across the City of Angels, The 13th Annual La Shorts Film Festival began Thursday night with...a little bit less than a bang. Some prominent Hollywood women, however, are showcasing their talents with world premieres of their directorial debuts: These Vagabond Shoes stars a-now-completely-broke-thanks-to-Bernie-Madoff Kevin Bacon and is directed by Scarlett Johansson. The Spleenectomy stars Anna Faris, and leaves a scar as the first film directed by Kirsten Smith. Smith is a Hollywood screenwriter and producer whose credits include 10 Things I Hate About You, Legally Blonde, The House Bunny, summer's newest rom-com, The Ugly Truth. The Monday Before Thanksgiving stars Laura Dern and Courteney Cox. This short is Cox's directorial debut, not including David Arquette's wardrobe. If I were to place my bets, I'd say that 1) the film is set in the spring, and 2) because Laura Dern is in it, it...

I really got to work with the best of the best but in a really short and sweet kind of way. It was the perfect first taste." Courtney first debuted her movie The Monday Before Thanksgiving in front of loved ones like Jennifer Aniston back in October. Last night she talked about getting advice from her friend David Fincher and honing her new skill, "I would love to direct more,...

For a while now, Glamour has been pulling various actresses into the directorial fold with their Reel Moments series. Last year brought the likes of Kirsten Dunst and Jennifer Aniston, and this year, Demi Moore. Now Demi's short is online, along with shorts from Courteney Cox and Kirsten Smith (writer of films like Legally Blonde and The House Bunny).
This has been a pretty kickass project, one that will hopefully get more women behind the camera and making names for themselves. As for the latest bash of shorts -- one is uplifting, one is plain wacky, and the last is a good kick in the shins to the overly weight-conscious. Check them out here for yourself, and keep reading for a rundown of the latest three.
