Sex & Nudity

    • No nudity whatsoever.
    • In a flashback, Lucy (age 11) recalls sitting with her parents in a diner while they make out.
    • While Ben (child care worker) & Lauren (age 16) are sitting together on the couch, her hand is shown down his pants.
    • Lauren performs oral sex on Ben under her covers; Lucy is in the room pretending to be asleep in her bed.
    • Ben crawls into bed with Lauren on a second occasion & initiates sex with her. Lauren repeatedly says no, begs him to stop & he eventually leaves, frustrated. Lucy is again in the room to witness this.
    • A teenage boy & girl make out briefly in front of Lucy.
    • It is implied that Ben is molesting Lucy, though nothing is shown. Karl & Michael (other child care workers at the group home) tear Lucy away from Ben while they are watching a movie together, presumably to prevent abuse from taking place.

Violence & Gore

    • Lucy is interrogated by her father over $5 going missing. He ends up screaming at her, throwing her on the couch & taking off his belt to beat her with it. The beating is heard but takes place off screen; she is then seen lying on the floor presumably unconscious. Bruises are seen on her body later while she is changing.
    • During a Christmas party, Ben berates Lauren for dancing. His abusive tone is uncalled for & sets her off. She pushes & shoves him before storming out. Karl & Michael then accuse Ben of having inappropriate sexual relationships with the girls at the group home, start a physical confrontation with him & threaten to stab him.

Profanity

    • F*** is used multiple times in anger/frustration by various characters.
    • When Karl & Michael accuse Ben of molesting/abusing/raping the girls, things get heated. They scream things like "stick your d*** in a f***ing adult, you dirty f***ing pig".

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

    • Lucy's father accuses her of smoking, which she denies.
    • Lauren huffs inhalants in front of Lucy. Lucy is visibly upset, so Lauren assures her she is fine.
    • Lauren & some teens drink & smoke at an outdoor rave. Although Lucy is present, this scene is tame & brief; you mostly see glow sticks & fog.
    • Teens smoke marijuana in front of Lucy.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

    • The film opens with the confrontation between Lucy & her father that begins with verbal abuse & ends in a physical beating.
    • The tone of the entire film is extremely disturbing, upsetting, bleak & uncomfortable to watch, particularly the scenes that depict or allude to the girls at the orphanage being sexually abused.
    • Lucy's parents are extremely unfit, neglectful & make it very apparent they want nothing to do with her, even in times when she is desperate for their love/affection, which is extremely heartbreaking.
    • Although this film is tastefully done & the majority of the graphic scenes are implied or cut away from, this film may disturb people who are easily distraught by sensitive subject matter.
