- The contestants are thrilled when Paulina shows up to show them how to model unflattering clothing with style.
- The girls arrive home to find Clark's picture on the wall. Clark feels "damn good" about being called first. She confesses, "I started out this competition in the bottom, and that sucks. I'm better than that."
Samantha's complains about falling from the top three to the bottom two. But she's determined to stay positive, practice, and to remain in the competition for a long time.
Marjorie asks Analeigh if she's worried about tomorrow, but Analeigh is bothered by the question and says, "I don't just think negative thoughts." Marj is confused that she seems to be the only girl intimidated by the competition. She thinks it may almost be a cultural difference. But she's not the only girl that's nervous. Joslyn calls her sister and confesses that she's worried she hasn't taken a good picture in the last few weeks. She's frustrated with herself that she's not doing better. Her sister encourages her to step up her game.
Tyra Mail: Just because it doesn't fit, doesn't mean you should be clothes minded. Love, Tyra.
The next days, the girls head out to the challenge where they meet Paulina in an abandoned warehouse. Paulina is dressed in a tacky blue dress suit. She tells the girls that 90% of their time as a model will be spent doing catalogues, and usually the clothes don't fit very well. So, quite often, you have to find things that might help give the outfit a better fit, like shoulder pads, a water bottle, or a roll of tape. The girls are given hot pink construction hats and a toolbelt full of clips, pads, and bottles to help them reconstruct the baggy pants and oversized shirts they are given. Paulina will pick a winner.
Analeigh has a cute dress that she ties up in the back. McKey stuffed a can in the back of her pants to make the waist fit, then clips the pants legs from behind with clothespins to give them shape. Paulina tells Clark she didn't make her outfit form-fitted enough, but Clark said she was dressing with her grandmother in mind, who wouldn't want to buy clothes that are too tight.
Samantha gets scolded for changing her outfit too much. She folded up the shorts high on the leg, and she also changed the texture of her shirt by clipping the neckline. Paulina points out that if someone were to buy that outfit, they would be disappointed to receive something completely different.
Marjorie is up next. Her pants are still pretty baggy so Paulina gives her tips on how she could have clamped her pants in the back. Marj is so frustrated with herself for not doing well, she just deflates. Paulina is about to annouce the winner but then notices Marj is visibly upset and asks her what's wrong. Marj is so intimidated she can barely speak, so the girls, who are used to Marjorie's behavior, tells Paulina it's just nerves. Marjorie tries to explain, "It's not really my comfort zone, I just have a rejection impulse."
Paulina completely relates to her. Sheena interjects that's Marjorie has low self-esteem but Paulina explains that this is a socially acceptable way to be in Europe. Marj is relieved that finally someone is able to relate to what she's feeling, but Samantha is not sympathetic at all. Samantha confesses, "I think Marjorie is a little baby... Welcome to America, this is how it is. You're not in France anymore."
Back to the challenge. McKey is the winner! She wins 50 extra frames at the photo shoot.
Tyra Mail: Are you a force of nature, a devastating beauty, or a total disaster? Love, Tyra.
The next day, the girls head out to the photo shoot. When they arrive, there's a set that looks like a small city. The lights go dark and a monster comes out and stomps through the city. But don't be scared, it's just Mr. Jay. For this shoot, the girls will be destructive giants replicating disasters in Los Angeles. Mr. Jay explains that he dressed up like a monster to show them that no matter how much make-up you have on, the model can still shine through and have an impact. . But luckily, the girls won't be dressed up like monsters, but actually mod girls from the Sixties. Brian Edwards will be the photographer.
Elina is up first and she's an eartquake. She pounds and stomps on the set. Sheena is a sandstorm and gives a lot of variety, but Clark, the blackout, is a dud. Mr. Jay is not impressed. Lauren Brie is a snowstorm. As usual, she does great. Joslyn is a rockslide and tries to offer versatility, but Mr. Jay tells her to be more creative. Analeigh is the Santa Ana winds and rocks on the set. McKey is a heat wave. She drapes herself across the buildings and climbs all over the set. Mr. Jay says, "Wow, we finally have a model show up to the set." As the challenge winner, she gets her extra 50 frames, but she did so amazing she didn't really need them.
Samantha is a tidal wave. For her shoot, they have her standing in a pool of water. She whips and kicks the water to actually make the wave. Jay loves the energy. Marjorie is a traffic jam. She gives lots of pretty shots but Jay had to give her tips on how to pose. He complained he had to spoon-feed her through the shoot, and of course, Marjorie was upset for not doing better. She's afraid she will be sent home.
The girls wake up early on elimination day. Lauren Brie tells Clark that she better stick around. Clark is confident she's not going home. She confesses, "I'm number one in this competition. Go look on the TV, my picture is there."
Time for panel. Brian Edwards is the guest judge.
Marjorie is first. Tyra admits that a traffic jam isn't really a natural disaster but in LA it is. Paulina and Nigel love her picture. Tyra told her that in her film, she tried to stay pretty for too long and that she should mix it up and take more chances. Lauren Brie's picture is nice but Brian tells her she was a bit too "posy" in the shoot. Paulina points out that because she's used to taking a beautiful picture she might think she doesn't have to do as much, but encourages her to take it to the next level.
The judges love Samantha's shot but are not too crazy about Clark's photo. Tyra thinks she got stuck trying to look pretty and didn't commit. Elina's picture is what Tyra calls "ugly pretty." They love Sheena's picture but Brian tells her to keep her energy up in throughout the shoot. They like Analeigh's great pose but tell her to give more in the face. Joslyn is up next. Ms. Jay tells her they she's slipping in the competition and she needs to get her confidence back. And finally, McKey is up. Nigel thinks she could have given more, but Tyra really likes the shot.
Time for judging.
Nigel likes Marjorie's picture but thinks she's letting her nerves get the best of her. Paulina comes to her defense. She thinks Marjorie is great, but Lauren Brie is cheese and Sam is a ham. They all agree Clark is dull. Ms. Jay thinks Elina has a strong face but she can do more if she let go. Nigel thinks Sheen has magical personality but her looks need help, and Paulina thinks Analeigh is not very photogenic. Speaking of personality, they love Joslyn's but feel like she lost the power of her first two shots. Paulina points out the first two photos were basically the same pose.
And here's the order.
Samantha. Analeigh. McKey. Elina. Marjorie. Lauren Brie. Sheena. Final two, Clark and Joslyn.
Joslyn started off the competition so strong, but now the judges wonder if she lost her fire. Clark started off okay but got stronger and had the best photo last week, but the judges think she's good but not fantastic.
So who goes home? Clark. Joslyn was saved by her bubbly personality.
Tyra tells Clark she should be proud of her picture last week but to stop trying to be so pretty. As she packs her bags, Clark says, "I would give up anything to do this again, this has been the best experience of my life."
