Martin Scorsese has become TikTok famous thanks to his daughter — and his latest outing on the social media network features him getting to grips with internet slang.
Complete with a high-pitched voice effect, the decorated director was grilled on the meaning of Gen Z words during a five-minute video posted by Francesca Scorsese.
Scorsese knew what might give someone the “ick” and was able to explain why something “hits different,” but he struggled with phrases including “sneaky link” (a secret hookup) and “ship” (wishing for two people to enter a relationship).
There was also a couple of revealing moments about Scorsese’s work during the TikTok video. He pondered on how Lily Gladstone “ate” in Killers of the Flower Moon, his upcoming movie. “They use to say ‘ruled’ [the screen]. She did very well,” he said.

September usually means the beginning of the traditional fall TV season. As such, Hulu’s list of new releases for September 2021 contains some impressive TV swings.
For starters, all of ABC and Fox’s (both now united under the Disney banner alongside Hulu) fall season offerings will be made available to stream on Hulu the next day. More impressively, however, two FX on Hulu originals make their way to the streaming world this month.
The first is the long-awaited adaptation of the classic comic Y: The Last Man. The story of a virus that destroys every mammal with a Y-chromosome (save for one escape artist and his monkey) is set to premiere on September 13. Shortly after that, the B.J. Novak-produced anthology series The Premise arrives on September 16. Even those who are fatigued from timely anthology concepts will want to check this one out.

In the words of “Sweeney Todd” pie baker Mrs. Lovett, “Times is hard.” As everyone adjusts to the new reality of working remotely, comedians and filmmakers who rely on freelance work are being hit hard. Film and TV productions are shutting down faster than we can update our exhaustive running list. Comedians are losing out on precious weekly gigs. Theater practitioners are worried the nonprofit theater world may not bounce back. An already tenuous lifestyle just became a whole lot harder.

Since 2011, Texas-Berlin producer Lotic has been sculpting experimental club music from noise swarms, microscopic samples and mutated bass rumbles, making fans of Björk, Ben Frost and more. 2015’s Ep Heterocetera and short mixtape Agitations created mutating nightmares from, respectively, Penderecki-esque howls of microtonal noise and revving Transformers grind. However, with the release of their first full-length, Lotic opts for a kinder, gentler chaos.

The first trailer for Dwayne Johnson's big screen adaptation of Rampage has been unleashed and the movie actually looks like it's going to be a blast! The movie isn't going to win any awards or anything, but I liked what I saw in the trailer and I think fans of the classic game might like what they see. It's pretty much the game in big-budget movie form. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I'm excited to see the movie.

Lina Esco (Kingdom) and Kenny Johnson (Bates Motel) have booked series-regular roles opposite Shemar Moore and Stephanie Sigman on CBS drama pilot S.W.A.T., executive produced by The Shield creator Shawn Ryan, Neal H. Moritz, Justin Lin and Aaron Rahsaan Thomas.
Written by Thomas and directed by Lin and inspired by the 2003 film, S.W.A.T. is described as an intense, action-packed procedural following a locally born-and-bred S.W.A.T. lieutenant, Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson (Moore), who is torn between loyalty to the streets and duty to his fellow officers when he’s tasked to run a highly trained unit that is the last stop for solving crimes in Los Angeles. The cast also includes Stephanie Sigman.

With Ben Affleck's Batman movie in trouble and potentially looking at a page one rewrite, Joe Manganiello is looking to secure another role in the interim. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Manganiello is entering final contract negotiations to co-star in Dwayne Johnson and director Brad Peyton's adaptation of '80s arcade game, Rampage. THR describes the film as following: "Like the video game, the film will feature three creatures - a monstrously transformed gorilla, crocodile and wolf - who wreak havoc on North American cities and landmarks. Johnson is, naturally, an animal-loving hero who is the world’s only hope." Also in talks to join the film is Marley Shelton, who is best known for the Anthony Hopkins thriller Solace. Manganiello will reportedly play the leader of a private military group, while Shelton will play a scientist/astronaut. In addition to The Rock, Naomie Harris is also...

How much would you like to see a well-written scene of dialogue between Colin Farrell and Anthony Hopkins? It’s only a fraction of the feature film in question — in which Hopkins plays a tortured psychic helping some cops catch a motivated killer who is a psychic himself — but well worth the price of admission. As directed by Afonso Poyart, Solace opens after a shelved release following the near-death of Relativity Media. Rescued by Lionsgate Premiere, the film plays a lot like too-little-too-late, a sometimes-clever thriller with a couple of performances that rise above the material.

Though the final incarnation has nothing to do with the far-more impressive 1995 blockbuster, the genre elements are all still there. Stop me if you think you’ve heard this one before. There’s a serial killer on the loose and the FBI are stumped. At their wits end they turn to a mysterious man played by Anthony Hopkins who uses his special insights to help them track the serial killer. As the case unfolds, Hopkins’ character develops a special bond with a cool headed and forthright female FBI Agent. Am I ringing any bells here?
If you’re thinking Silence of the Lambs you’re wrong. This is Solace. Written in the early 2000s, the film was apparently given to David Fincher as a potential Seven sequel, but Fincher (displaying some pretty damn sound judgment) turned it down. The project promptly disappeared into development hell, where by all rights it should have stayed. But now, somehow, it’s escaped. May God have mercy on our souls.

The FBI hunts for a psycho serial killer and, stumped, they turn to a reclusive eccentric figure who seems to have a window into the psyche of the murderer. Oh, and he’s played by Anthony Hopkins. But the name of the character is not Hannibal Lecter and the film Solace is nowhere near the universe of that other movie. Solace is, instead, a rump sequel to the film Seven, with a brutal murderer at the center of the story, but, again, nowhere near the quality of that noir classic.
Two agents, played with appropriate bravado by Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Abbie Cornish, turn to a psychic (Hopkins’ character) to try to catch the culprit. We soon discover that the suspect is a seer himself, and is on a mission to forestall some of the horrors that he expects will befall his victims if he does not off them first.

Plot: A psychic helps his old friend at the FBI track down a serial killer Review: Sir Anthony Hopkins thrilled audiences with his Academy Award winning performance in The Silence Of The Lambs way back in 1991. Studios and mini-majors always use the end of year to launch their best awards contenders, but the period between Thanksgiving and Christmas is known for something else among film distributors: a dumping ground for bad movies. Starting around Black Friday every year, a wave of crappy titles hit theaters like clockwork. What’s driving this annual offloading of lousy product?

Even though the holidays are upon us, that doesn’t mean the horror and sci-fi genres are slowing down, especially on the VOD side of things. While many of us take the French to be major art house film snobs, they can enjoy a good ol' genre movie like the rest of us, if not even more so. Where else but in France could a schlocky serial killer thriller like the Colin Farrell-Anthony Hopkins starrer Solace — which will be getting a stateside day-and-date release in a few weeks — rake in nearly 1 million admissions? And where else but in Paris could John Carpenter hold a concert for thousands of screaming fans, jamming along to the themes to his movies as highlight reels were...

With just a couple weeks left before film critics start listing the best movies of 2016, it’s safe to assume Yorgos Lanthimos’ “The Lobster” will be included on many of them. A darling of the 2015 festival circuit, the dark romance satire arrived in theaters this summer to critical acclaim, most of which singled out the never-better Colin Farrell in the lead role. No wonder expectations are sky high for the duo’s next collaboration, “The Killing of a Sacred Deer,” which co-stars Nicole Kidman and Alicia Silverstone.

Anthony Hopkins, of course, knows a thing or two about brilliant serial killers, having played the role of Hannibal Lecter multiple times. Now he’s back on that beat with Solace. Hopkins stars as John Clancy, a psychic hunting a murderer (Colin Farrell, looking serene) who shares those gifts. The set-up seems a bit like a CBS procedural: He has visions! They both have visions! Still, it’s rated R, so we’re also likely in for some gruesome, yet potentially meaningful, victim shots à la Se7en. Also featured in the trailer—a slow motion bullet.
The film also stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Abbie Cornish as the FBI agents along for the ride. Solace is due out December 16.
