There are numerous pop culture references: The police car pile-up at the end of the submarine chase is an homage to The Blues Brothers, the Hawkmen arriving in support of Stewie, Mort and Brian's air raid is an homage to Flash Gordon, the apple-cart/skateboard chase is from Back to the Future and ends with the character saying "Das Poop!", perhaps alluding to Das Boot. There's even a blaster noise from Star Wars when they jump the three officers for their uniforms. The plane crash scene is an homage to Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
One of the scientists in the atomic facility says that they have a much better luck developing 100 "luftballons" than atomic bomb, then one of them blasts leaving 99. This is a reference to the famous song "99 Luftballons" by German singer Nena.
Stewie and Hitler perform a version of the classic "Mirror scene" first made famous by the Marx Brothers' movie 'Duck Soup.' At one point during the scene, they both adopt the pose of the Evil Monkey who lives in Chris's closet.
Despite Stewie saying that Rene Russo was born on September 1, 1939, she was actually born in 1954. Lily Tomlin was born on that date.
Unlike the other "Road to..." episodes, this one does not feature a musical number, though Brian and Stewie begin one before being interrupted by Mort.
