Imaginative
Tha_rick-me24 October 2008
This is absolutely the best direct-to-video film ever made. It's a piece of violent irony, humor, satire, craziness, pointlessness and yet so right to the point. Matt and Trey succeed themselves in this visual masterpiece.

Since season 1, South Park's visuals have improved themselves, and now they are to the best South Park ever: a trilogy/movie with the satire David Zucker still had in the first 'Scary Movie', the satire of Tim Burton's 'Mars Attacks!', a certain complexness and a humor that's just so... absurd.

Best that have come out of south park in years!

Imaginationland is without a doubt one of the best thing trey and Scott have produced in years, it's a clever and interesting series of episodes that together conclude in one of the most epic stories ever seen on the show. The debt within the characters isn't as deep for someone who is new to the series, and unfortunately the character-development isn't something special. The whole film is according to me based on that you know the character since before (ex. the cartman and kyle dispute within the film). I love how references to earlier episodes is made all the time (similar to the episodes "200" and "201"). And once again does the producers find an interesting plot with an interesting dispute which has an interesting conclusion.

Excellent straight to video south park movie!
gangstahippie11 November 2008
Family Guy released "stewie griffin the untold story" a few years back as a straight to video family guy movie. They then played it cut into three episodes on television.South Park's Imaginationland was originally a three-parter episode. It was combined and released as a film on DVD with extra footage.I am going to review this as a movie.Imaginationland is a great movie which is just as good as Bigger, Longer and Uncut. It has an interesting storyline and is hilarious, just like the South Park series is! It also has plenty of interesting characters.Imaginationland the movie starts off with Cartman telling everybody he saw a leprechaun.Kyle does not believe him and Cartman bets that if they do see a leprechaun, Kyle must suck his balls!, they see one and find out he is from a place called Imaginationland.Imaginationland is where all the imaginary characters reside.HOwever, terrorists break into imaginationland and break the portal where all the evil characters are! With the help of the US government and Butters, the boys must save imaginationland! Meanwhile, Cartman goes through great lengths to get Kyle to suck his balls! Imaginationland is an interesting and great south park movie and is definitely recommended to fans.

Warning: Spoilers
As always south park is hilarious, though i think that sometimes people take it too seriously. It's south park and it's not meant to be politically correct.

saudkazia i think it's unfair of you to say that "I know that Christians may find it funny to insult their "god"". That's ridiculous. And Jewish people are constantly being attacked in south park. I can understand where you're coming from and don't want to be offensive but the creators are trying to make fun of people who assume that all terrorists are Muslim, not Muslim people, in the same way they make fun of just about everything else they feel like. And I would probably take your opinion more seriously if you were less hypocritical, trying to defend your own religion by insulting other religions isn't exactly the right way to go about things.

Personally I loved this move/three part episode. It's hilarious and I love the return of the satanic tree critters from the episode "woodland critter Christmas". Three of my favourite ever south park episodes. Definitely worth watching 10/10

Excellent movie.
kirk-2462 August 2009
I have not seen the version on DVD, but I have seen the 3 episodes on television and on On Deamand for free.'Imaginationland' is basically 3 episodes combined together to make an entire movie. For 1 hour, I sat in my sofa and was entertained.Since I'm a huge fan of 'South Park', I love just about any episode.I even liked the 1999 movie 'South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut.'Imaginationland' is just as excellent as any other good episode. The only difference between the this and the others is that this is more of a movie than just 3 episodes combined to make 1 movie.Just know that this episode is full of very rude humor and some slightly graphic animated violence, so this one isn't for everyone.Overall, I highly recommend this movie if you love the television series, funny and crude humor, and the first movie.Using your imagination has never been this funny.

The second film...
fingazmc23 December 2021
This was originally going to be the second film, compared to the first one this wouldn't be as good but still these are classic 3 parter episodes. The main plot is great and Cartman's sub plot is hilarious, every fan should see this!

Bonus Review for South Park in general:

The fact south park has managed to stay on the air after all the grief they have gotten over the years shows how great it really is.

Constantly keeping up to date, always being funny, reinventing the format, characters you care about (everyone has a favourite) and brilliant stories make this my joint favourite cartoon (tied with Futurama) of all time.

The Simpsons really went off a cliff in the last 10 or so years, but I think south park has stayed strong pretty much every season, even my least favourite season has classic episodes in it.

If you're reading reviews to see if you should start watching; you really should. Stick with it as it starts to hit it's stride and look better after a couple of seasons.

And if you haven't seen the film, that is a must see!

South Park let's its imagination run wild
crazelord9 December 2021
My favorite SP episodes are the ones that are more self contained stories instead of direct of the time social commentary. Those are amazing when they release but get dated quickly. But here it feels timeless.

Imagination Land is one of their multi part episodes, it really is an... "imaginative" idea and Trey & Matt really are able to find so many great directions with the story while including a lot of aspects from their history for long time fans.

Parker and Stone at their most fantastic Warning: Spoilers
Let me start by saying that I watched the three episodes and not this movie that the episodes were edited into. So if they added something later on, then I cannot comment on that simply because I have not seen it. The runtime is slightly over an hour as it is basically three regular South Park episodes taken together. If you look at my title of this review, you will need to understand that I am referring to fantastic in the sense of fantasy, but not in the sense of greatness. This one here is so packed with characters and references from all kinds of literary and film works, which certainly makes it special and different from the usual South Park stuff. And the story about Parker and Stone creating a new world is something new as well. There were parts that I did not find too impressive, but overall it is working well I guess. Nonetheless, I must say the real star in here was not Butters who plays a more important role than usual, but Cartman once again, who is on his very own mission and is totally hilarious as always. In the end, his story and the one about Imaginationland find the common link, which resulted in good closure too. I believe South Park is a great show and has been for a long time. "Imaginationland" is just another fine example of that and it makes me wish for them to make more multi-part episodes. I recommend the watch.

A fun ride
DeonhasMoved15 February 2022
I'm gonna judge this as both a movie and as individual 3-parter episodes since they were originally the latter, but were edited together as a feature-length movie for it's DVD release.

As a MOVIE, it's obviously no Bigger, Longer and Uncut. That film was pretty much a perfect film adaptation. It used as many characters from the show as possible, has gags and elements you'd see on the show (such as Kenny dying), and stays true to what you'd see on the small screen whilst upping the scale to make it feel truly epic. Even after my second rewatch, it's still an experience. Imaginationland is still a really solid movie, but definitely does feel lacking in comparision. It does feel like a movie for the most part, but it becomes obvious when they transition between each episode. They show the original title cards (they also read Kyle Sucks Cartman's B**ls instead of Imaginationland, which is strange), and that confused me since Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story was also three episodes edited together as a movie, but didn't include those credits at the beginning of each part that you'd see in a normal episode. I don't know if this was the case for the actual episodes, but the movie with them combined had an original intro in the style of the 'Road to' episodes that showed the credits there.

But I don't wanna compare it to Bigger, Longer and Uncut too much since the latter was a theatrical release, while this is just something made for TV with a lower budget, so of course they can't reach the same quality as something made for cinemas. It's not really fair.

So how is it as a 3-PARTER EPISODE? Fantastic. Some of the best episodes from the show. The stakes are high, the plot is engaging, and the concept (of fictional characters like Strawberry Shortcake, gods like Zeus, and holiday icons like Santa Claus living in their own land together) is really cool. And because this is South Park, they give it an edgy twist without being too bleak, and instead, hilarious.

As a direct-to-video movie, it's an 8/10, but as a 3-part episode, it's an easy 10/10.
