Adapted from Diana Gabaldon’s international best-selling books, which has sold more than 25 million copies and graced the New York Times best-seller list six times, Outlander will premiere on Starz this summer. Outlander spans the genres of romance, science fiction, history, and adventure in one epic tale. It follows the story of Claire Randall, a married combat nurse from 1945 who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743, where she is immediately thrown into an unknown world where her life is threatened. When she is forced to marry Jamie Fraser, a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior, a passionate affair is ignited that tears Claire’s heart between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.

There’s a new batch of photos for Starz’s Outlander series, based on Diana Gabaldon’s best-selling novel. From Ronald D. Moore, Outlander tells the tale of a young woman who gets swept back in time, far from her husband, where she winds up forced to marry a young Scottish warrior. The new photos help establish the setting while also showing us some of the goings on behind the scenes.
The first photo we have, shown above, was released by Starz and depicts Castle Leoch, a very important setting from 18th century Scotland, when the majority of the story takes place. Starz made a joke by releasing the photo in honor of Daylight Savings, captioning it “Sad about losing an hour? Claire lost 200 years.”
Next up we have some pictures posted to the outlander_starz instagram. The first is of Caitriona Balfe before she travels through time (so she...

Pretty sure we can thank the wild success of Game of Thrones for the fact that Diana Gabaldon’s action-fantasy-historical-romance book series — the first book was originally entitled Cross Stitch in the U.K. — is coming to TV. [Amazon U.S.] [Amazon Canada] [Amazon U.K.] Someone said, “Find me more epic fiction with lots of blood and sexytimes!” and behold, Outlander was there.
Cannot wait.

Trailer Louisa Mellor 13 Jan 2014 - 06:21
Starz is bringing the Outlander novels to television this year. Here's the first trailer...
The weekend that saw the Us debut of Ron D. Moore's new Syfy series, Helix, also gave us the trailer for another Moore-produced project, Outlander.
Adapted from the novels of Diana Gabaldon, Outlander is being billed as romance, sci-fi, historical drama, adventure and epic all in one. It concerns 1940s nurse Claire Randall who, as this trailer informs us, has "fallen through time", back to eighteenth century Scotland. In 1743, Claire becomes entangled with a Scottish warrior and a love triangle separated by the centuries ensues (think Goodnight Sweetheart but with more kilts. Actually, no, best you don't).
Outlander is due to start this summer in the Us on Starz.

At a fan event in Los Angeles Saturday (Jan. 11), "Outlander" executive producer Ron Moore, author Diana Gabaldon and stars Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan fielded a variety of questions about the show.
But the fans were also curious about their own TV viewing habits and asked the panel what TV shows they enjoy watching:
Heughan: "I just finished 'Dexter,' I was a bit obsessed with that. I'm trying to look for the next series. I'm reading a book at the moment about Scotland."
Balfe: "I love 'Mad Men.' Oh, and 'Friday Night Lights,' that was a huge one for me," with Heughan chiming in that the two of them watched "Friday Night Lights" together.
Gabaldon: "I don't watch television normally and I really don't watch it when I'm two months away from finishing a book. ... Phil Rickman's one of my favorite authors, he's got a series I've...

Starz has released the first trailer for Outlander, the time travel series from Battlestar Galactica's Ron Moore. The sci-fi drama, which is based on a very popular series of books by Diana Gabaldon, chronicles the adventures of a British WWII nurse who is transported back to 1743, where she gets involved in both romantic and historical conflicts. Via voiceover, heroine Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe) explains, "Something happened to me — and I know it doesn't make any sense — but I seem to have fallen through time." The trailer doesn't offer many details beyond that, though it does feature lots of spooky Scottish mist, soldiers on horseback, and candles that seem appropriate to the story's sexy reputation.

The author of the "Outlander" series of books, Diana Gabaldon, has never been shy about the fact that her character Jamie Fraser was inspired by an old episode of "Doctor Who."
The character she took a liking to in particular was second Doctor (Patrick Troughton) companion Jamie McCrimmon (Frazer Hines). She had been looking for a time and place to set her book and when McCrimmon, from 18th century Scotland, made his first appearance on the show in a kilt, it stuck with Gabaldon.
"I thought that was kind of fetching, and I was still thinking about this the next day in church," Gabaldon explained at the TCA winter press tour.
She borrowed the name Jamie from the character and Fraser from the actor to pay tribute to her inspiration, and the rest is history. Who is Jamie McCrimmon, though?
Many modern "Doctor Who" fans might not know much about the show's early history.

Starz has released a brand new photo from "Outlander," its new drama series based on the epic novel series by Diana Gabaldon. In the picture, Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) is being whipped by "Black" Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies), a captain in the English regiment.
During the show's TCA press tour panel Friday (Jan. 10), series creator Ron Moore, Gabaldon and stars Heughan and Caitriona Balfe thanked fans for their immense support. Below are a few other fun tidbits from the presentation.
Gabaldon on whether the huge fanbase has affected her writing: "Absolutely not. I am creating this and with luck, they'll like it. ... If people like it, I'm happy, but I'm never going to write something because I think someone else will like it."
Moore on whether the show will be one book per season: "We're not locked into that because some books are bigger than other books. ... [but] I hope I have such problems.

Starz original series “Outlander,” based on the eponymous novel series by Diana Gabaldon, will stick closely to the book over the course of its 16 episode first season, showrunner Ronald D. Moore promised readers. “In the writer’s room, we always start with the book,” executive producer Moore said at Starz’s Television Critics Association press tour panel on Friday. ”If it’s in the book, it’s in the show.” Occasionally of course, scenes will be cut, trimmed or otherwise adapted to match the pay-tv show’s one-hour format, Moore explained. One glaring difference between the book and the show,...

Obsessive fans of the wildly popular time travel romance Outlander may notice/object to Starz‘s adaptation’s different opening in the thick of World War II, but author Diana Gabaldon approved of the change, she told TV critics at Winter TV Press Tour 2014. Exec producer Ron Moore won her over with his argument that the show should open with heroine Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe) serving as a nurse in a field hospital. “It shows her being the competent and resilient person that she is.” Gabaldon said. The Outlander series spans the genres of romance, science fiction, history and adventure in one epic tale. It follows the story of Claire Randall, a married combat nurse from 1945 who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743 where she is immediately thrown into an unknown world where her life is threatened. She is forced to marry Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) a young Scottish warrior,...

Starz is fulfilling the dreams of a legion of fans when it brings to life Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander" series, which tells the epic adventure/romance of modern-day Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe) and 18th-centure Scottish Highlander Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan).
With such a fervent fanbase, creator Ron Moore says that he feels a sense of responsibility to do the books justice -- a responsibility he takes seriously.
"I saw my role from the beginning as not reinventing this material, but as adapting it and delivering it," says Moore. "I take that obligation seriously. I want to give [fans] their story, but I do have to translate that to a different medium."
Author Gabaldon adds, "To do a literal page-by-page translation to the screen would not be a very good TV show."
However, the books are the source material and as such, that is where the writers always start and end.

Starz’ time-travel romance Outlander isn’t going to start like Diana Gabaldon’s beloved novel.
Showrunner Ron Moore pitched Gabaldon on a different opening, the author revealed at the show’s Television Critics Association press tour panel in Pasadena on Friday. Gabaldon said the show will open with Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe) during World War II. The show will open with a two-minute prologue set in a field hospital with Claire “in her element” as a wartime nurse. “You need to appreciate her immediately,” Gabaldon recalled Moore pitching. “It shows her being the competent and resilient person that she is.

The producer told reporters Friday at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour. It's a big day for fans of Diana Gabaldon's novels: The Starz adaptation of "Outlander" has, at long last, gone into production.
The network announced on Monday (Oct. 7) that production on the highly-anticipated series, from "Battlestar Galactica" executive producer Ronald D. Moore, began filming on location in Scotland. To celebrate the news, Starz released a photo of Moore wielding a sword on set.
Moore had this to say about the series: "Day One and the battle is joined. We fight to do justice to the material and the fans. We'll return with our targes or on them." (For those wondering, a targe is a light shield used by the Scots. Don't worry, we had to look it up, too.)
