The theme song is "Time of the Preacher" from Willie Nelson's 1975 album "Red Headed Stranger". Lyrics of the song were used in the first volume of the graphic novel.
This is the fifth attempt to adapt Preacher to moving pictures. The first had Rachel Talalay as the director and James Marsden as the protagonist Jesse Custer. The second was going to be made by Miramax Films. The third was an HBO series to be written by Mark Steven Johnson. The fourth with Sam Mendes direct and Neal H. Moritz and Jason Netter would have produced the film from Columbia Pictures.
The shake Sheriff Root makes for his son is meant to be full of meat and various condiments. In reality, it was made up of mostly strawberries to give it a raw red meat look.
The magazine rack seen briefly early on in this episode has a Preacher comic on it.
