The last time we caught up with GravyTrain team of April Mullen and Tim Doiron, the duo had just released their follow-up to Rock, Paper Scissors: The Way of the Tosser, a buddy cop comedy titled GravyTrain (review) on DVD. They were a little guarded on sharing details on their upcoming projects but no longer.
Shot entirely in Stereoscopic 3D, Dead Before Dawn will not only be Canada's first full-length, live action, 3D feature; it will also introduce a new breed of zombies: zemons! The adventure comedy will unfold as a group of college kids accidentally unleash an evil curse that causes people to kill themselves and turn into Zombie Demons, aka zemons.
With a cast which includes Mullen (who is also directing) and Doiron along with Brandon Jay McLaren ("The Killing"), Kevin McDonald ("Kids in the Hall"), Ellen Dubin ("Napoleon Dynamite") and Rossif Sutherland (High Life (review)), the film...

The other day I had the chance to check out April Mullen and Tim Doiron's great Canadian comedy GravyTrain (review), a film that has cult classic material written all over it. That film is out on DVD today and I was lucky enough to chat up April and Tim on the process of making this film, what it's like to make movies in Canada and what they have up their sleeves for the future.
Read the full interview after the break.
We're speaking today with April Mullen and Tim Doiron, the director, writer and stars of GravyTrain. Thank you for taking the time to speak with me.
April Mullen: Hello.
Tim Doiron: No problem.
Before we start talking about your new movie GravyTrain, how did you two meet and start working together?
Am: We actually met way back when in Ryerson, we were both taking acting in theatre.

GravyTrain opens like a good noir. A cop saying goodbye to his son before he goes off on the job of tracking bad people or in this case, one bad guy who goes by the name of Jimmy Fish Eye. The opening few moments are captured in breathtaking black and white, camera moving with surety and decisiveness. It’s a sincere and gorgeous opening that for a moment, had me double checking the DVD box. How did this luscious opening play into the film’s wacky trailer?
It’s not the last time that high contrast b&w makes an appearance in April Mullen’s follow-up to Rock, Paper, Scissors: The Way of the Tosser but opening with it is a punch in the gut, a reminder that this may be a...

Here’s something fun for a Friday. April Mullen’s new film, her follow-up to the zany Rock, Paper, Scissors: The Way of the Tosser, carries the same appeal: a slightly offbeat world filled with even more offbeat characters.
GravyTrain stars Tim Doiron (who also wrote the script) as Charles 'Chuck' GravyTrain, Gypsy Creek's # 1 cop. Here’s more of the official verbage which is just as amusing as the trailer and gives you an idea of what to expect:
Charles Gravytrain believes in three things: Truth, Justice, and slapping the no good crook Jimmy Fish Eye's in the slammer for life! And with the help of his foxy new partner, big city cop Miss Uma Booma, he may do just that. But in a town that has more stinky secrets and slippery surprises than a tin of rotten sardines the only question remains...Where's the Fish?!
If it sounds wacky...
