Let's all remember this was filmed during a pandemic so camera angles and character spacing was all different BECAUSE OF COVID!

That being said, it was comfort viewing and eased the soul at the end of a year where we desperately needed it!

An absolutely beautiful Christmas special, the perfect mix of happy and happy-sad. Loved seeing Sister Monica Joans storyline end well.

The centrepiece of the BBC's Christmas Day

The annual BBC Christmas Day sob-fest that is 'Call the Midwife' proved to be a reliable ratings winner for the network once again.

After a bumpy start, where in standard practice for this programme a previously loved main character's exit is mentioned rather than shown, with them likely never to return, but once it settles down this was good stuff.

Warm, funny, and as ever completely stolen by Judy Parfitt's performance. You could almost be referring to any episode of the show really.

A bit bleak in places, and stretched at its extended running time, but the BBC won't care a jot - in difficult circumstances they managed to get the centrepiece of their Christmas Day schedules on the air, and actually it was a welcome relief to see it.

Not up to usual standard

I found this Christmas special dragged in places and I didn't enjoy it as much as previous ones. Seemed rather forced at times and starting to get a little bit too sentimental for me. Still one of the better shows on television and always worth a watch.

What's with the face masks?

What's with the face masks? Where they really wearing masks during deliveries? Even home delivers? Or is this a political stunt during Covid?! Seems suspicious to me and didn't seem like real life.

A trapeze? Really?

Completely ruined by the notion that Nurse Crane would stop in the middle of her afternoon rounds to get dressed up and have a play on a trapeze in a travelling circus. It is beyond ridiculous to think that this character would behave in such a way. Totally spoiled the whole thing

I can't remember the last time I watched an episode with more doom and gloom. It's a Christmas special - why so depressing? I love, love, love Call the Midwife but I could not even watch this one all the way through.
