The merest suggestion of an "elevator" . . .
pixrox114 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
. . . appears on set for most of this battle in confined quarters between Sean Connery as "James Bond" (Agent 007) and Joe Robinson as "Peter Franks," the precious gems conduit Bond is impersonating early in the DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER story in order to have a crack at Jill St. John's "Tiffany Case" lingerie-on-parade character. DIAMONDS director Guy Hamilton and stunt arranger Bob Simmons are on-screen in this behind-the-scenes piece, as they choreograph the tussle ultimately resulting in "Franks'" demise. "You look like a couple of old ladies walking around in a lift," director Hamilton bellows early in this sequence (using the Limey term for "elevator"). Two unnamed stunt men are on hand to act out the hand-to-hand combat moves before the principals are filmed reenacting everything (there are no long shots possible here, so Sean and Joe have to be the ones on camera). After Hamilton is satisfied he has the footage he needs, he concludes "There's one old lady I don't want to meet in a lift. Well done, Sean; well done, everybody."
