The director, Otto Von Braunstein, refers to Doris as the "little Kappelhoff girl" from Cincinnati. Doris Day's real name is Doris Mary Ann Kappelhoff, and she was, indeed, born in Cincinnati.
Otto von Braunstein is a caricature of martinet German directors like Erich von Stroheim and Otto Preminger.
When Doris falls into the trough, the dye from her clothes turns the water purple.
Among the actors whose photos are on the walls of Conroy's office are Buddy Ebsen, Sebastian Cabot, Lucille Ball, Bob Crane, Walter Brennan, Irene Ryan, Ken Curtis, Eddie Albert, Dan Dailey, Amanda Blake, Chad Evrett and of course Doris Day. All were starring on CBS shows at the time.
This was included in Turner Classic Movies' centennial tribute to Doris Day's 100th birthday on April 3, 2022.
