It was revealed during the ‘Ani-rock Fes. 2024 My Hero Academia Plus Ultra Live’ event held at Yokohama Arena in Kanagawa on Feb 25, 2024, that Tk from Ling Tosite Sigure will perform the opening theme song for the seventh season of the anime.
In a statement released following the announcement, Tk expressed his thoughts on the theme song, stating, “I’ve always pondered what I, someone without any unique qualities or talents, could contribute to the series. The theme of this song was born when, in a moment, a soap bubble flew in front of me, reflecting incredibly vivid rainbow colors before leaving its shape imprinted on concrete as it disappeared. Is this battle, which continues even as things are taken away, and even pain cannot be obtained, for myself or for someone else? I hope that the radiance piercing through the tattered world will be engraved alongside this song.“

In a surprising revelation at Jump Festa 2024, Kohei Horikoshi, the creator of My Hero Academia, disclosed that he had initially intended to kill off a prominent character in the series.
The character in question is none other than Endeavor.
During the My Hero Academia panel at Jump Festa, Horikoshi revealed in a letter that he had initially planned to kill off Endeavor at the beginning of the Paranormal Liberation War arc. The decision was, however, scrapped off at the last minute due to a a change of heart Horikoshi had while working on the intense battle between Endeavor and the High-End.
Turns out, after witnessing the character development of Endeavor, Horikoshi decided to spare the hero’s life, opting for a different narrative trajectory.
Horikoshi had also revealed during Jump Festa ’24 that if My Hero Academia continued till Jump Festa 2025 next year, then a Dogeza festival will be held on the stage.

Manga authors making important announcements and commenting on their ongoing series are a common sight at Jump Festa stages. At Jump Fest 2022, Kohei Horikoshi, the author of My Hero Academia manga caused a stir when he said that the manga will end in a year if “everything goes according to plan.”
Fast forward a year, Mha showed no signs of ending and at Jump Festa 2023 the author called himself a “sweet summer child” for completely skewing his prediction. This time, he clarified that the manga certainly was close to its climax but did not give a fixed timeline for the end.
Come Jump Festa 2024, My Hero Academia manga is still going strong. But Horikoshi reiterated what he said at the previous event – the manga’s climax is near. However, he added that there were still many things he wanted to draw beyond the battle that was currently ongoing in the manga.

In a strategic move by Universal, “Jurassic World: Dominion” (19.99) kept “Elvis” (Wbd/19.99) from two clear weeks at the top of VOD charts. Next week, all other game plans will be moot: “Top Gun: Maverick” (Paramount/19.99) comes to PVOD rental platforms Tuesday and will undoubtedly dominate for the foreseeable future.
Meantime, Netflix viewers continue to confound their overlords by preferring to watch the streamers’ less high-profile original films rather than the more expensive star-branded ones. “Look Both Ways” with “Riverdale” star Lili Reinhart as a college senior thinking through alternatives for her future knocked off Jamie Foxx’s “Day Shift” (now #3).
“Jurassic” will come to Peacock on September 2, with both the release version and one with extended scenes. The studio released the latter to PVOD this week. It was treated differently by different platforms — Google Play lists the two separately (at #2 and #3), while Vudu and iTunes combined revenues, landing it at #1 at the former,...

Tuesday marks the 45th anniversary of Elvis’ death, but the King of Rock’n’Roll still rules. Released last week, “Elvis” (Warner Bros. Discovery/19.99) is #1 at Vudu (ranking by revenue) as well as iTunes and Google Play (listing by transactions). It also represents a new PVOD strategy for Wbd that says much about the studio’s priorities.
With 134 million domestic and still #9 this weekend, “Elvis” is the first Wbd film this year not available on HBO 45 days after release. That’s a radical shift for the studio, which released all films in theaters and on HBO Max day-and-date last year.
With every release, studios with streamers must weigh the values: PVOD at 19.99, allowing it the immediate benefit of retaining a rental price of 14 or more? Or, the more-uncertain potential to attract a subscriber who adds to the value of the streaming service — especially when it will soon wind up there as well?...

This weekend was the busiest in months for a specialty box office still trying to find its footing a year after movie theaters reopened, with the anime film “Jujutsu Kaisen 0” leading the pack with an estimated $17 million opening.
While the threat of another industry-crippling Covid-19 wave still looms, the end of this past winter’s Omicron surge has given new hope to indie and specialty distributors trying to get moviegoers back into arthouses. But like the wider blockbuster scene, the biggest specialty success was driven by younger moviegoers with “Jujutsu Kaisen 0,” which scored another victory for Sony’s import wing Crunchyroll.
In recent years, Sony has been able to consistently draw anime fans to theaters with releases of highly anticipated film adaptations of hit TV series like “Dragon Ball Super: Broly,” “My Hero Academia: World Heroes Mission” and, most recently, “Demon Slayer: Mugen Train,” which launched last year...

Neon presents Spencer on just under 1,000 screens, Pablo Larraín’s well-reviewed psychological drama about the weekend Princess Diana rewrote the future of the British monarchy. The film is said to be looking at a $2 million-$2.5 million opening with an 84% Certified Fresh critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes but a 50% audience score (albeit from fewer than 50 ratings).
Meanwhile, Eternals is tracking to a $70M+ opening with flipped scores — 49% critics, 86% audience.
This is a period where counter-programming — a key role of independent film, specialty and arthouse fare, documentaries, barely exists. If recent Marvel Cinematic Universe release weekends are precedent, this one will be all Eternals all the time for the mostly younger crowds that are repopulating theaters.

The beginning of autumn is supposed to be spooky season, particularly in the U.S. where Halloween is treated with more reverence than most national holidays. It’s that time of year where children go trick ‘r treating and adults also dress up as ghosts and goblins—seeking out out new chillers and thrillers of every stripe. Even so, that setting was no help to Last Night in Soho and Antlers, two new horror movies that sank like bewitched stones at the box office.
Grossing a near identical cume of $4.16 million over the weekend—with Edgar Wright’s Last Night in Soho squeaking out the higher estimated final tally—both films opened below $5 million in their first three days of theatrical release in the U.S., and both failed to crawl into even the top five earners of the weekend. For a second straight week, Dune: Part One held the top spot of the box-office weekend, again, besting Halloween Kills by almost double.
Dune took in $15.5 million in its second week of release. This gives the sci-fi film a two-week total of $69.4 million. In second, Halloween Kills made $8.5 million during its third weekend, to give it a total of $85.6 million so far. Also, holding firm in the same spot as last week was the latest James Bond film, No Time to Die, which added $7.8 million over the weekend to give the film a four-week tally of $133.3 million. Meanwhile, the anime action-adventure film Boku no Hero Academia: World Heroes Mission debuted in the fourth spot of this week’s top ten with an inaugural weekend of $6.4 million.
This knocked Venom: Let There Be Carnage to the fifth spot of this week’s list as it added $5.8 million to give the film a five-week total of $190.4 million.

Warner Bros.’ sci-fi tentpole Dune continued to spice up an otherwise bland Halloween weekend at the box office, pulling in $15.5 million in its sophomore frame and remaining the top movie in North America. Meanwhile, a pair of scary-movie debuts—Edgar Wright’s Last Night in Soho and the Guillermo del Toro-produced Antlers—failed to click with audiences despite a roll-out timed to coincide with the spookiest holiday of the year, landing disappointingly outside of the top five. In overseas news, the latest James Bond installment, No Time to Die, finally opened in China, albeit to softer-than-expected numbers due to a wave of Covid-related theater closures in the country.

Halloween on a Sunday made a slow box office all but inevitable. Studios avoided programming top new films and created the self-fulling prophecy of a $66 million total, by far the lowest in the strongest month this year.
It represented 57 percent of the closest weekend in 2019, bringing the four-week comparative rolling average to 75 percent.
“Dune” (Warner Bros.) had a weaker than anticipated second weekend, with a 62 percent drop grossing $15.5 million. Halloween was expected to hurt but Denis Villeneuve’s film lacked the competition of a major opening.
Next weekend it will face the challenge of “Eternals.” Not only will they compete for attention in overlapping audiences, it will also grab nearly all premium presentation screens that accounted for more than 25 percent of the “Dune” total. Its domestic take so far is $69.4 million, worldwide $292 million. That’s respectable, but not yet at a level where this is assured of a profit.

Halloween is proving unfruitful for a pair of new horror movies, as “Dune” repeats its top performance at the domestic box office this weekend.
Edgar Wright’s “Last Night in Soho” and Scott Cooper’s “Antlers” both had muted debuts, leaving the No. 1 spot open for Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s fabled sci-fi novel. After a busy October, the box office is ending the month on a quiet note.
