Cook's birthday.
LW-0885428 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Episode two also builds on this with the focus on Cook's wild and destructive nature, it's little wonder. In the first season of Skins it was actually pretty tame, they mainly smoked weed and there was actually no sex at all until episode 3. In this one though it doubles down on the madness with Cook drinking, drinking and drinking, smoking weed is now the equivalent of a cigarette, several characters snort cocaine in this one too which I can't remember happening before. It was a pretty good choice to make Cook the focus of episode 2. Cook lives life at a thousand miles an hour and seems to be have no restraint at all. The dynamic of his friendship is he relies on Freddie to step in and stop him when he's about to go too far. It's Cook's 17th birthday and he throws a party at a local pub and invites everyone along. Effy, Katie, Emily and Pandora turn up but despite Cook's best efforts they have a bit of a boring time. It's established that Cook is a seriously hard drinker. Thing's liven up though when they switch to another party happening where a local drug dealer is marrying his daughter to a rival clan, complete with some seriously awful tracksuits. The gangsters though are portrayed as ridiculous and comical, there's not much doubt that our gang will be alright. Mayhem and violence ensues, and Cook is in his truly in his element. After 40 minutes of laughing, drinking and partying to top tune after top tune, things suddenly take a darker turn in this episode The gang regroup in an underpass where Cook tries it on with the girls, Katie, Pandora and finally Effy. They leave though and Freddie tells Cook he's fed up with him and leaves too. The party music changes to something more sombre and unsettling. Cook wonders alone as dawn breaks, looking sombre and sad, implying his loud bravado persona may just be a front. A few hours later though Cook is back to reconcile with Freddie. Freddie tries to warn him that his destructive lifestyle can only end badly. The final scene is him walking off laughing his head off looking forward to another crazy day. It's the skill of the direction and the ability to abruptly change the tone which helps keep the viewer engaged. You go along with the madness and fun and then suddenly something happens which suddenly makes you sit up and be concerned. Again the music from Fat Segal is just perfect in the more dramatic scenes.

Probably my least favorite of the episodes.

Skins is an absolutely brilliant show, and I've always admired the patterning of the episodes. The viewer sees the character first off, gets a general impression, and then sees the character's self-titled episode, and sees all the depth to their lives and families, which is generally unseen from the outside.

Before seeing this episode, I was eager to see what depth there was to Cook's character, since he basically seemed like a troublesome ass. After seeing the episode, nothing changed. I still don't understand the character at all; is there a reason Cook is so insane and generally insensitive to his friends? I didn't get anything out of this episode, and I hope eventually the season will answer my many, many questions about him.

Cook's Birthday - Bar, Clubbing, Strip Club, Prostitutes
vivianla28 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
It is Cook's 17th birthday and he is excited to get his penis "damp".

He has his birthday in a bar and waits for people to show up. The girls show up first including Effy. Cook talks excitedly of partying and you can do whatever you want. The group ends up sitting at a table singing miserably.

Hearing someone's getting married with free entry, Cook is interested. Inside the club where the engagement party is happening the bride-to-be kisses her dad. Cook walks with the girl with his hand on her bare butt underneath the dress.

The group snorts drugs. Pandora eats the rest before everyone had a turn. In the back room Cook senses that she gave him the "look" and goes to ask his uncle for drugs. She tells Cook if she is given drugs he can put his penis in her breasts, armpits, anywhere. Effy is high and dances without inhibitions.

Cook's two guy friends are surprised to hear Cook had sex with Effy. They asked when? Cook replies besides when his penis is up their ass, he doesn't have to tell them where his penis is all the time. The white math whiz is revealed to have a crush on Effy and looks hurt.

Dad kisses daughter on lips and talks of the two families being united in the marriage bed. He talks of his daughter's purity.

Cook goes to stage to sing and dad is angry. He accidentally makes Cook fall ruining the husband-to-be's male relative's green clothes. A male says they all have had sex with his daughter and everyone smiles with knowing agreement.

Cook and the group leave. In a tunnel Cook asks each girl if they want to have sex. He lastly turns to Effy who smiles and leaves with the girls. This angers his friend who Cook knows has a crush on Effy and he silently leaves.

Cook and the white male who is good at math go to an unfamiliar place. Cook says it is a club. Only when they go inside the white male finds out it is a topless strip club. A girl dances on the pole, a French woman walks by and Cook checks out her butt. Cook asks for the other service and they are led to a curtained off area. Cook asks for big breasts. The host calls out two women - one very large woman and another more delicate.

Cook is surprised to hear that sex is 100 dollars. He asks for a blowjob then decides on a handjob as it is cheaper.

The other boy who is a virgin says he has never been kissed to the shock of the prostitute.

Cook lies back and the prostitutes gives him a handjob. He says her hand movements are smooth and he groans with pleasure.

Cook checks in on his friend and asks what is he doing just kissing? He is supposed to be screwing her. We hear moans and slapping noises.

Cook goes to check it out and it is the bride's father chained to a wall with electrocution. He snaps a photo.
