The Downside of Hollywood
Michael_Elliott5 May 2016
E! Mysteries & Scandals: Peg Entwistle (1998)

Diana and Jackson Harvey (authors), John Austin (author), Mark Wanamaker (film historian), Paul Backer (theater professor), Greg Williams (film historian) and Robert Entwistle (brother) help tell the story of Peg Entwistle, an actress who never made it big but became a legend.

Peg Entwistle became a legend on the night of September 16, 1932 when she took a walk up the Hollywood Hills where she climbed the "H" on the Hollywoodland sign. Once on top she jumped off committing suicide. Entwistle's suicide became the stuff of legend and was used to show the dark side of Hollywood. Through the interviews we are told where the actress came from, the impact she had in Hollywood and how everything just went wrong. The interview with her brothers is certainly a major plus but the tragic side of the story was perfect for this series and it makes for one of the best episodes.
