The next call the midwife!
politik-6993213 November 2023
Sensational. I just love the film sets, costumes, acting and scripts. I am seriously binge watching this series! Filmed in the black country with an accurate description of why it is called the black country. Set in the windrush era, this series shares history of what life was like for Caribbean immigrants relocating to the UK. A story that I wanted to hear with superb characters. The film sets and cars, shops and homes look authentically 1950s. And wow Dudley zoo features! Not to be missed. I hope the series continues and the characters develop. No hidden ethnic agendas here, pure history and its beautifully done!

Pretty good
rlda-3832913 February 2024
Watched mainly for when it occurred. The soundtrack was excellent, nightclubs scenes dancing were good. The casting was excellent. The storyline was interesting, and while a bit depressing, the prejudice storyline, was integral too,as it wasn't any different in England than the USA. The wardrobe ,and the zoo were excellent, had that vibe from the 50's. The church scenes and the conversations were so familiar, as I worked with many and even attended church with them,. The culture felt so familiar. The sexual harassment was so sad. One down side it seemed, was the lesbian relationship was shoehorned in make the show politically correct. That seems to be the norm though anymore. Hoping there is a second season.

Old school helpless females

Warning: Spoilers
The acting is fabulous. I guess it's asking too much for character actions to be logical. I'm sitting here yelling at the TV Chantrell get your passport before you try to get out a window! What were you doing this whole time! Wifey, how can you possibly not know that your husband is screwing around with the nannies?? No logic whatsoever, which kind of ruined it for me. I expect Chantrell to give hubby a head butt. I want at least ONE of the male characters to be responsible. Nope. Chanterelle could have quit long ago. She could get another passport. Leah is the only one who kicks some ass, but then it's portrayed that she's less than feminine. All the men are like, whhooooaa, she comes from a weird town where women are self sufficient! Eww. So despite the good acting, the script basically messes up the story in my opinion.

Very well done all involved
fhccqyrx4 November 2023
I didn't know if I would be able to watch this. After the first episode I was so saddened. I grew up in Birmingham in the 50's and 60's and never became aware that black people were treated this badly. I was young and oblivious. Of cause in later years everyone became aware. My parents did not discriminate against people of colour. I took all my friends home and all were treated the same. That memory makes me proud. I ended up watching all of the series and was left wanting more. So please Lenny, don't leave us hanging. It was amazing. I'd like it to be like call the midwife and just keep going and going.

Powerful reminder of Windrush....a sensational first series
bevowen1 November 2023
Absolutely loved this series and hope they make season 2. This was a powerful, moving and in several scenes, very upsetting to watch how these lovely people were racially and physically abused....it was so sad to watch and I am ashamed that a lot of people in this country were so discriminatory The actors were all marvellous, the storylines well scripted and the costumes simply fantastic I am so glad I watched this series as it educated me how the Windrush generation were treated Sir Lenny Henry created and wrote this and am so impressed as it was so well made - really well done everyone indeed!!

Entertaining and informative drama
hannahdeller1 December 2023
I love this series, and think most people would learn something about the lives of the people who emigrated here. Somehow it manages to balance real life and drama to make a watchable and enjoyable series. It is of course heartbreaking at times and sadly some of the views held by people in this drama are not that far removed from some people still today. However it makes the characters so joyful, resilient and fun that it is by no means a struggle to watch and the human spirit shines through. It is beautifully set and the costumes are fantastic. I really hope for another series featuring some of these wonderful characters.

Good Job Sir Lenny!

Outstanding
tszgvg30 October 2023
From the screenplay, to the casting, the set design to the costumes this is an outstanding series. There is not long to wait before this series gets straight into the action. Persevering through hardship and adversity, not to mention near-death experiences that should, we hope, be quite difficult to imagine for modern-day British citizens, this group of incredible women overcome. With grace and humility, and a huge dose if sheer grit and determination. I would gladly watch this again and really hope theres a season two in the pipeline. Britain at that time may not have had segregation in name, but it certainly had it in practice. I hope this gets shown in schools for GCSE History, Sociology or one of the other Humanities courses.

Absolutely loved it.
jackieann-059554 November 2023
I just binged watched the whole series of 3 little birds. I loved everything about it. Fantastic acting, All the lead actors were brilliant along with the rest of the cast. Great story following 2 sisters and their friend arriving in Dover then onto the Black Country and one of the sisters to Boreham wood in the hopes of starting an acting career. . They all want a better life as described by the sister's older brother but it doesn't quite match their expectations. Although the story is fictional, it is based on the experiences of Lenny Henry's Mother. The sign on a door in the credits of No Blacks, No Irish and No Dogs is something my Dad told me about when he arrived in London from Dublin in the late 50's. It highlights Wind Rush, racism but also shows friendships formed despite it. This series is funny, emotional and authentic to the era. Great music too. Well done Lenny Henry. I really hope there will be a series 2.

Painful reminder
g_head127 November 2023
This is a painful reminder of what the Windrush generation experienced. The sad thing about this series is it wasn't based on fiction. The acting was actually brilliant, the story line was interesting and gripping. The sad thing about it is elements of this film still exist today.

Two sisters Leah and Chantrelle and their acquaintance Hosanna catch a steamboat from Saint Ann Parish in Jamaica to the United Kingdom, arriving in London's Notting Hill before moving to the Midlands.

In December 2020, it was announced ITV had commissioned Three Little Birds from Lenny Henry, who would write and executive produce the six-part fictionalisation of his mother Winifred's stories. Russell T Davies was attached to the project as a script consultant and executive producer. Also set to executive produce were Angela Ferreira of Douglas Road Productions, Lucy Bedford of Tiger Aspect Productions, and Diederick Santer of BritBox International

Can't wait for the next series.

Three Little Birds Soars High
gazferg1 February 2024
Three Little Birds is a triumph! Created by Lenny Henry the story set in the late 50s in Britain is well crafted and comes across as an authentic production for the period. All of the actors involved give superb performances enhanced by the direction and strong dialogue. Stand outs for me were the costumes, sets and props reinforcing the period of the story. Despite the challenges faced by the main ensemble of characters in the story, there's still a promise of hope and joy. Migration stories are important to tell and Three Little Birds is a valuable contribution to the story of Jamaican migration to the UK. Highly recommended.

The Ancestors
nunusdessertswithsoul17 February 2024
It reminds me of the stories that my mom and other older family members would talk about. They were from Arkansas and Louisiana who migrated to Oakland, Alameda California in the 1950's.

Black people of African descent have the SAME experience no matter where they came from; Caribbean or United States.

Also, the white (European) HATE that was and continues to be prevalent this world especially against Black people of African descent.

But as the world can see by watching this series , which is so fantastic that Black people continue to rise and be the beautiful, strong, determined people they/we are.

Can't wait for season 2
charice-578619 February 2024
Watched this on BritBox, enjoying the diverse options... thought is was only three episodes at first, the last three episodes were Great. With a three black women lead, I was drawn in from the trailer. Stories had a lot of twist and turns. No tears but plenty of suspense. To have three main characters, they build each character up well. Chantelle character and trials were heavy for me if you have young children. I enjoyed seeing an immigration story to Europe from the Bahamas. We don't see many of those stories in America.

If you enjoyed Black Cake, you well enjoy the tale.

Come on season 2.

Brilliantly written with an outstanding ensemble cast
courseworktg11 February 2024
I was so impressed with this series. It really goes into the Windrush and the trials and tribulations that the Jamaicans and other West Indians went through, even though they were British citizens. The series is beautifully written and the entire cast is superb. They are a true ensemble and every episode has you on the edge of your seat, wondering what comes next. It runs the gamut of emotions, and is a binge-worthy series. I watched the entire thing in one sitting. I couldn't stop. It'a truly superlatively designed, directed, acted and costumed piece of filmmaking. I can't wait for Series 2! Bring it on, Sir Lenny Henry!

mercedesw-254208 February 2024
Just speechless words cannot begin to explain the pure power excellence, and just Wow of this miniseries. It's been such a long time since I've actually set glue to the TV screen the entire time the actors and actress left you wanting more each episode I take my head off to the Director, the writer, wardrobe, and even the extras, gave it a little razzle dazzle. We need more please.. Sending love from Pennsylvania. Wait I'm not done lol. I just can't believe a jewel as such is just being brought to my attention as of 2/06/24 . I most definitely will be running to my TikTok platform to bring some light to this series. @Ancestorswildesdream.

Wonderful Britbox Original Series!
lizb-9657320 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Binge watched the entire Season 1 today. Absolutely one of my favorite series in a long time. It was sad to see how the Jamaicans and other non-white citizens were treated back in the 50's but the series was very well written and the acting superb. As an American, I knew nothing of the "Wind rush Generation" so it was interesting to see how they struggled but at the same time kept faith that they had made the right decision to immigrate to Britain. I'm assuming there will be a second season since Episode 6 ended on an unexpected note. If so, I certainly look forward to watching it. Another Britbox winner!

Love it!
tgrifffive636 April 2024
I absolutely loved everything about the first season of Three Little Birds! I saw the trailer for it and was immediately intrigued. I didn't even have a BritBox subscription, however, I purchased one just to watch this series. I wasn't familiar with any of the actors, which is what initially peaked my curiosity. It gets terribly boring seeing the same old faces all the time in shows. And although the actors were new to me, they did not disappoint in their performances. They were all superb! I think I binged watched the entire season in just 2 nights! I even posted about it on my Facebook page and encouraged others to watch it.

Please DON'T disappoint me by not bringing it back for a second season.
