Bassist Tony Kanal has embarked on a new career as a TV composer. But he had to put that aside for a special date tonight at Coachella with his friends in No Doubt.
Debuting in 1992, the Anaheim, California group has sold more than 33 million albums. As a member of No Doubt, he helped launch multi-platinum, iconic hits like “Don’t Speak,” “Just A Girl,” “Spiderwebs,” “Hella Good,” “Ex-Girlfriend,” and “It’s My Life” up the charts, netting a pair of Grammy wins, appearances on the covers of Rolling Stone, Alternative Press and Spin, and even a Kennedy Center Honors performance paying tribute to Sir Paul McCartney.
Tonight marks No Doubt’s first major headlining show since 2015.
Kanal has been collaborating with composer Blake Neely, an Emmy winner known for his work on The Arrowverse, Greyhound, and Riverdale, with Kanal guesting on Neely’s soundtrack for the DC Comics TV series Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Cazzie David Is Glad Her Feature Directing Debut Won’t ‘Resonate’ with Most People: That’s the Point
Cazzie David may have grown up in the spotlight, but that doesn’t mean she’s ready to give audiences what they want.
The “Umbrella Academy” actress, author of essay collection “No One Asked For This,” and daughter of Larry David opted to make her feature debut with SXSW-selected anti-rom-com “I Love You Forever.” David co-wrote and co-directed the subversive dramedy with “Eighty-Sixed” web series collaborator Elisa Kalani. Oh, and did we mention David also has a supporting role in the film?
“I Love You Forever” stars “Single Drunk Female” breakout Sofia Black-d’Elia as law student Mackenzie, whose lackluster love life is resurrected after a meet-cute with charming broadcast journalist Finn (Ray Nicholson). Yet Finn’s charisma and well-timed vulnerable admissions point to a more sinister game at play, and Mackenzie soon finds herself in a year-long toxic relationship solely framed by Finn’s narcissistic abuse.

There comes a time in every heterosexual woman or queer man’s life where we have to wonder: What is it about men that is at once so despicable and so alluring?
There are statistically more male serial killers, more male sociopaths, and — let’s be real — more male assholes than there are female counterparts. That’s just scientific fact. Sure, you can click on the hyperlinks, but do you really need to read a Psychology Today post between looking at this review and scrolling through the dating apps?
But the foundation of heteronormative rom-coms goes as follows: Girl meets boy, girl falls for boy, girl changes herself slightly for boy, and boy proposes. The end, happily ever after, everyone is great and good. Yeah, if you’re currently dating (or have been on dates at all in the 21st century), you know that’s not how it works, especially when situationships,...

It has been 25 years since Keri Russell graced the small screen in the iconic role of Felicity Porter.
Felicity, the J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves-produced college drama, was a critical darling of The WB, becoming a phenomenon well before "the big chop" controversy and often topping the list of young adult classics to this very day.
The series amassed 84 episodes over four seasons, and it was nominated for 38 awards, including a Golden Globe Best Actress nod for Keri Russell.
The series remains impactful, even two and a half decades later. And it's primarily due to the allure of the cast, many of whom are still going strong in their careers all these years later.
So, where is the cast of Felicity now? Check it out!

"Good Burger" is a rather unlikely success story of '90s kids' entertainment. Back in the '90s, Nickelodeon created a sketch comedy show titled "All That," which was essentially the kids' version of "Saturday Night Live." It ran absurd sketches and launched the careers of many actors like Amanda Bynes, Nick Cannon, Katrina Johnson, Jack DeSena, Kel Mitchell, and Kenan Thompson — who would go on to become the longest-reigning "SNL" cast member ever.
And just like "SNL," "All That" would see some sketches turn into spin-offs, with the biggest one being "Good Burger." In the sketches, Kenan and Kel starred as Dexter and Ed, two fast food joint workers who get into all sorts of hijinks. The movie was directed by Brian Robbins, who would go on to become president and CEO of Paramount Pictures.

Dark Sky Films gave the The Third Saturday in October slasher double feature a VOD and digital release back in May, and while we haven’t heard word of a physical media release just yet, the movies have now made their way onto the Tubi streaming service!
The titles of these slashers are The Third Saturday in October: Part I and The Third Saturday in October: Part V… and if you think it’s confusing that we’re jumping right from one to five, here’s a little more information on exactly what these films are:
What if a lost horror franchise made during the peak of the slasher genre was unearthed today, but only two of the films could be restored? Filmmaker Jay Burleson imagined just that with The Third Saturday in October.

In the 1990s, Nickelodeon created a sketch comedy show called "All That," an absurdist half-hour that was the kid's answer to "Saturday Night Live." The series ran for 10 seasons and served as the launchpad for performers like Nick Cannon, Amanda Bynes, Josh Server, Katrina Johnson, Lori Beth Denberg, Danny Tamberelli, Kel Mitchell, and the longest-reigning "SNL" cast member in history, Kenan Thompson. Like the adult series, "All That" birthed a handful of sketches that would get their own spin-offs, none more famous than "Good Burger."
Kenan and Kel starred as Dexter and Ed, getting into hijinks while working at a fast food joint that fans loved so much, they got their own movie. Now, over 25 years later, the classic combo is back with "Good Burger 2." Paramount+ and Nickelodeon Studios released a teaser trailer today, opening with Dexter hit by a car being driven by Ed, one that he's converted into a burger mobile.

It's been years since we last got a "Star Wars" theatrical feature, and at this point, it is clear that the galaxy far, far away is actually right there in your living room. Whether it's animated shows like "The Bad Batch" and "Tales of the Jedi," or the mega-success of "The Mandalorian" and the creative genius of "Andor," TV has allowed the franchise to experiment with tones and different kinds of stories in ways it was never able to before.
And yet, "Star Wars" is stagnating, particularly when it comes to the Mando-Verse. "The Book of Boba Fett" was an utter disappointment, and the third season of "The Mandalorian" functioned as a mixed bag. Thankfully, "Star Wars" is soon expanding further beyond the Mando-Verse, and there is arguably no other "Star Wars" title as exciting as "The Acolyte," which promises to introduce a new time period and a new kind of "Star Wars" protagonist.

The Best Comedy Series Casting Emmy category is one where repeat wins should generally not be expected, since the only show to achieve that feat in well over a decade was “Veep” in 2016 and 2017. Most of Gold Derby’s participating users seem to have kept this in mind while making their 2023 Emmy picks, given that former casting winners “Ted Lasso” (2021) and “Abbott Elementary” (2022) are trailing new shows “The Bear” and “Jury Duty” in the current race. However, there is still no obvious consensus among them as to which freshman series will actually take the gold.
The final slot in this year’s comedy casting lineup is filled by “Only Murders in the Building,” which, like “Abbott Elementary,” was first recognized here last year. After 2000, 2007, and 2021, this is only the fourth time that every nominated show in this category consists of no more than three seasons. In addition to “Ted Lasso,...

In the new season of the Seventies workplace comedy Minx, Joyce Prigger’s fortunes couldn’t be more on the rise. The titular magazine, which pairs feminist journalism with full frontal male photo spreads, is thriving, turning Joyce into a minor celebrity who hobnobs with Linda Ronstadt, Gloria Steinem, and other icons of the period. When Rolling Stone comes to profile her (in an episode with more than a whiff of Almost Famous), she admits to the reporter that getting everything she wants has only left her fearing that it can all be taken away.

The millennial women-led series is dead. Long live the millennials.
It wasn’t exactly surprising when Freeform’s beloved critically acclaimed “Single Drunk Female” was canceled this month after just two seasons and immediately pulled from Hulu. Sure, Freeform touted the sitcom as the highest-rated original comedy during the New York City Season 2 premiere before the series returned with all new episodes on Hulu in April. But its cancellation is just one of the many reminders that networks don’t invest long-term in women-fronted shows that focus on “messy” millennial women.
While we pour one out for “Single Drunk Female,” it’s best to trace the series back to its roots with Lena Dunham and executive producer Jenni Konner’s explosively disruptive HBO series “Girls,” which celebrated its 10-year anniversary in 2022. After that massive hit, why has TV abandoned the generation of people who grew up watching “Girls”?

Freeform's scripted roster just took a hit.
The cable network has canceled Single Drunk Female and The Watchful Eye, according to Deadline.
Even worse: all episodes of both series are being removed from Hulu today, meaning that they'll only be available to purchase via iTunes and Amazon.
Single Drunk Female Season 1 was a massive hit for Freeform and Hulu, where it garnered strong viewership on streaming, but the buzz seemingly faded by the time Single Drunk Female Season 2 debuted earlier this year.
The second season launched in April and picked up with Sam a year and a half into her sobriety journey and finally feeling "like she has a life worth celebrating," the logline states.
"However, Sam quickly learns that sometimes life has other plans for her."
"Sam must figure out how to effect change where she can, sit in her discomfort when she can't, and maybe even enjoy the ride.

“To anyone who watched: thank you. To anyone who stopped me on the street to tell me how much time they had or how annoying their mom was: I love you,” said Sofia Black-d’Elia, star of Single Drunk Female after Freeform canceled the series.
The Disney-owned network axed the show after two seasons.
Black-d’Elia played 20-something alcoholic Samantha Fink, who, after a public flame-out at a New York media company, is forced to seize the only chance she has to sober up and avoid jail time: moving back home with her overbearing mother, Carol, played Ally Sheedy. Back in Greater Boston, Samantha sets out on a path to move past her worst self and figure out her best self. Kinda.
“I’m so sad the Sdf journey has been cut short. I’ve loved making this show. I’m grateful to everyone who was apart of it,” she added.

Freeform is shedding a pair of scripted originals.
The Disney-owned cable network has canceled sophomore comedy Single Drunk Female and rookie drama The Watchful Eye.
The news comes four months after Disney’s Dana Walden shuffled her executive ranks and gave oversight of Freeform to Simran Sethi, the ABC development executive who previously headed up originals for the younger-skewing broadcast network with former Freeform president Tara Duncan now exclusively focused on the Onyx Collective studio.
Single Drunk Female starredSofia Black-d’Elia, Ally Sheedy, Rebecca Henderson, Sasha Compere, Lily Mae Harrington and Garrick Bernard and hailed from creator Simone Finch (The Connors) and exec producer Jenni Konner (Girls). The show was produced in-house by Disney’s 20th Television, where Konner is based with an overall deal.
The Watchful Eye, meanwhile, ran for one season on Freeform and starred Mariel Molino in the thriller about a young nanny who goes to work...

[This story contains major spoilers for Single Drunk Female season 2.]
In the second season of Single Drunk Female, creator Simone Finch wanted to expand beyond Sam’s (Sofia Black-d’Elia) journey with physical sobriety and explore what comes next: emotional sobriety. “We wanted to talk more about what happens when you’re sober and you think that you have everything figured out,” she tells The Hollywood Reporter.
The result is something equally as messy for Sam as season one, just in some compelling (and cringey) new ways. And as audiences see, her friends and family are not immune to season two’s mess. As a result, the return of Freeform’s breakout hit — which debuted on April 12 and is airing weekly on the cabler (though the entirety of the season is already available on Hulu) — watches more in its second go like an ensemble show, where more screen time translates to more complication but also more depth.

Season one of “Single Drunk Female” ended with Sam breaking up with James after he lied about his sobriety. He indulged in drinking soon after he and Sam got into a relationship. Maybe it was the stress of the relationship or finally getting with Sam that was too much for him to take. She cannot stand to be with him. Brit, on the other hand, walked out of her wedding right after the ceremony, and she sought Sam because she was the only one who could be honest with her. Felicia ends up having a good time on the date that Peter sets up with Brit, who is a doctor, and he finds her adorable. What would Sam choose to do from here on? Will she stay in the city or live with her mother and her boyfriend, Bob, for a long period of time?

I primarily associate distributor Dark Sky Films with Adam Green’s Hatchet / Victor Crowley slasher franchise – so it seems very appropriate that the company is now home to the old school style slasher franchise The Third Saturday in October! The two Third Saturday in October films have been making the festival rounds in recent months, and today Dark Sky Films has announced they will be giving them a VOD and digital release on May 5th!
The titles of these slashers are The Third Saturday in October: Part I and The Third Saturday in October: Part V… and if you think it’s confusing that we’re jumping right from one to five, here’s a little more information on exactly what these films are:
What if a lost horror franchise made during the peak of the slasher genre was unearthed today, but only two of the films could be restored?...

Busy Philipps brought a special date to the "Single Drunk Female" season two premiere: her eldest child, Birdie Leigh Silverstein. The actor and her 14-year-old mini-me hit the red carpet together at New York City's Midnight Theatre on April 11 and looked like two peas in a pod while posing for the cameras. Philipps, a new cast addition for the Freeform series, wore a black maxi dress and white blazer, while Birdie wore an orange satin slip dress and flats and later borrowed their mom's blazer.

Sam Fink has grown up. In Single Drunk Female Season 1, she struggled with staying sober and making amends. In Season 2, she's learning it's even harder to remain sober while navigating a new job, a new boyfriend, and moving out on her own.

Even though Sam is more in charge of her recovery, she's still an alcoholic, and that's something that mother and daughter finally have to face. It's rough but a beautiful and emotional arc for both.
Both Brit and Felicia decided what they wanted in life, even if it hurt people. Brit went up against her family to finally conquer her dreams. Felicia had someone...
