Marvel’s animated series for Disney+, X-Men ’97 has provided an acute picture of Rogue, an X-Men character long been ignored in the cinematic representation. Particularly, in the 20th Century Fox’s X-Men movies where Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique got more preference over Anna Paquin’s Rogue.

It’s not that Rogue was completely out of the picture, X-Men makers definitely had the character in mind but the omission of her character was a pain for fans. Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past has celebrated 10 year anniversary and Rogue could have been one important character in the movie but there was a reason why the director decided to leave her out of the theatrical version of the movie.

The X-Men are due to make thier appearance in the MCU, and there are a lot of theories as to how they will be integrated into the history of the franchise. Some have suggested that mutants will enter the MCU from a different universe, one that will be assimilated into the sacred timeline. However, another theory has emerged, suggesting that the X-Men have already been part of the MCU.
The X-Men | Marvel Comics
There have been multiple theories about how the X-Men exist in the MCU. Some have suggested that Charles Xavier is responsible for hiding mutants in the MCU, while others say that the mutants will slowly emerge now that The Blip has been undone. There is one theory that suggests that not only have mutants always existed in the MCU, but some sort of cataclysmic event wiped them out from the memories of the general public.

X-Men ’97 just finished its first season, one of the best things the MCU has ever released. Yet, way back in 1992, Fox Kids almost killed its predecessor before it had a chance to evolve.
In the new documentary special Assembled: X-Men ’97, three of the chief creatives on X-Men: The Animated Series reveal their struggles getting the show off the ground. Producer and director Larry Houston recalls working under Marvel Productions president Margaret Loesch, who always championed the X-Men throughout the ’80s, resulting in misfires like Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends or Pryde of the X-Men but no ongoing series. When Loesch took a role as head of Fox Children’s Network, she brought Houston with her and gave him his shot, with one caveat.
“The folks above her didn’t believe X-Men was gonna do anything,” says writer Julia Lewald, who, along with her husband Eric, worked as a writer on the original show.

Hugh Jackman reprises his X-Men superhero role in Deadpool & Wolverine and just revealed he committed to starring opposite Ryan Reynolds even before talking to his agent.
The actor said he thought he was done playing the superhero after his character was killed off in 2017’s Logan. However, Reynolds pitched him the idea of bringing Deadpool and Wolverine together, and he couldn’t resist putting on the claws again.
“I was on my way, I was just driving, and literally, just like a bolt of lightning, came this knowing deep in my gut that I wanted to do this film with Ryan,” Jackman said in an interview with Fandango. “For Deapdool and Wolverine to come back together. The Marvel Cinematic Universe lost its biggest hero when Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man fell in Avengers: Endgame, but not after saving the day/Earth 616. Ever since then, the MCU has struggled to create the kind of projects that made it such a global success in the first place.
While most fans have asked for Kevin Feige and company to focus on originality and come up with new narratives that delve into the wealth of characters the Comics have on offer, some have also pressed for a Robert Downey Jr. return. Whether that is a potential option especially considering the actor’s own wishes, Feige had previously claimed they would ‘never want to mafically undo’ Stark’s heroic death.

At long last, it seems the MCU is getting closer to its mutation. We’re only two months away from Deadpool & Wolverine, which in its own way will bring something of an evolutionary leap to Marvel’s cinematic DNA. The world is still raving about the stellar first season of animated show X-Men ’97. And now, there are signs that we’re getting closer to the thing fans have been really waiting for: a proper MCU X-Men movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a writer has been hired to write such a thing – and the person tasked with that almighty responsibility is Michael Lesslie.
Given the amount of secrecy around Marvel’s X-Men plans, it’s unknown what brief Lesslie has been given – but he’s currently putting pen to paper on bringing Xavier’s team to the big screen. Lesslie previously served as lead writer on Park Chan-wook...

In the X-Men '97 season 1 finale, the team was thrown backwards (and forwards) in time. In 3000 B.C., we watched as Professor X, Magneto, Beast, Rogue and Nightcrawler encountered a young En Sabah Nur, a.k.a. Apocalypse.
Meanwhile, in 3060 A.D., Cyclops and Jean Grey crossed paths with a younger version of their son, Cable. As for Wolverine, Morph, Jubilee, and Storm, they're currently unaccounted for (though it's been confirmed they're not in the present and are scattered across one or both timelines).
Talking to IGN (via Toonado.com), supervising director Jake Castorena teased plans for Apocalypse in X-Men '97 season 2, explaining why the decision was made to put the spotlight back on the iconic villain.
"With the X-Men, for better or for worse, all roads usually end up leading to Apocalypse, right? It's either Apocalypse, Sinister, or Magneto," he says. "What I will say is we do things on purpose.

The Star Trek reboot may get another producer after hiring writer Seth Grahame-Smith and Andor director Toby Haynes for the project. Simon Kinberg, who produced the X-Men films, is reportedly in talks with Paramount Pictures to serve as a producer in the new iteration of the franchise. We might finally be getting a new X-Men film as Michael Lesslie has been tapped to write a new film for Marvel.
It looks like the X-Men have come to stay in the MCU. After the disappointing Dark Phoenix, the X-Men have been laying low until we got quick teases in Ms. Marvel and The Marvels before Deadpool & Wolverine re-introduces everyone’s favourite grumpy mutant proper.
Deadline now reports that Marvel is planning a proper X-Men movie and Michael Lesslie is in negotiations to pen the script. Lesslie wrote last year’s Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes, proving he can adapt someone else’s material. Lesslie has also penned the script for the new Now You See Me sequel which will be filming later this year.
The film is officially in development, but it’s still early days and there is no news...

The Marvel Universe is a treasure trove of characters, and the X-Men are among its most beloved properties. Ever since Disney acquired Fox and its repository, Marvel fans have been asking for the live-action debut of the mutants after decades of hits and misses within the Fox Universe. While the animated X-Men ’97 was definitely a step in the right direction, it seems Marvel has reverted back to its old ways.

Marvel Studios’ X-Men movie is gaining momentum as the project lands a writer.
Michael Lesslie, who is known for his work on the series The Little Drummer Girl and the recent prequel feature The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, is in talks to pen the new film focused on Marvel Comics’ iconic mutant team, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The feature does not currently have a release date or a director attached.
X-Men remains a popular property for Disney following the recent success of well-reviewed Disney+ animated series X-Men ’97. The show is a reboot of the fondly remembered X-Men: The Animated Series, which launched in 1992.

The X-Men are one step closer to joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe with their own movie.
Screenwriter Michael Lesslie (“The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes”) is in talks with Marvel Studios to write the first “X-Men” movie since the mutant superhero franchise was acquired by Disney in its purchase of 21st Century Fox in 2019.
As with every Marvel Studios film, Kevin Feige will produce, but nothing else about the film has been set, including director or cast. Marvel has been slowly seeding the MCU with mutants over the past two years, including brief mentions in 2022’s “Ms. Marvel” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” and appearances of the X-Men’s namesake and leader, Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), in an alternative universe in 2022’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” and of Beast (Kelsey Grammer) in the post-credits sequence of 2023’s “The Marvels.”

Spider-Man projects have always been a soft spot for superhero fans. Be it films, animated masterpieces, or videogames; projects featuring any version of the websligger are bound to reach impressive numbers. This has been the case for many years, dating back to when Tobey Maguire’s film was first released in 2002.

However, Marvel fans collectively agree that there are three main live-action Spider-Men; Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland. All have had iconic runs, shared the screen together, and caused conflicts among fans.
Many have argued about who did their job as the character best, and a recent number may clear one contender completely off the list.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix’s Simon Kinberg is in talks to produce new Star Trek film franchise at Paramount
As Paramount+ is keeping the Star Trek brand going with their new TV iterations, the movie side of the mountain has been hatching a plan to revitalize Gene Roddenberry’s vision of a peaceful future for the big screen. There are multiple projects in development, which include a swan song for the Kelvin Universe crew which began with 2009’s J.J. Abrams Star Trek. Early last year, Abrams teased his Star Trek 4, saying, “I will say it’s the first time [since the original reboot] that we have a story that feels as compelling as the first one.” However, the series star, Chris Pine, is kept in the dark about it, “In Star Trek land, the actors are usually the last people to find out anything. I know costume designers that have read scripts before the actors.”

Veteran producer Simon Kinberg, who oversaw most of the “X-Men” movies for 20th Century Fox, is in talks to produce an upcoming “Star Trek” movie for Paramount Pictures, Variety has confirmed.
The project has already been in development at the studio for some time, with Seth Grahame-Smith (“Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”) handing the screenplay and Toby Haynes on board to direct. Insiders say the film is intended as an origin story for the main timeline of the “Star Trek” franchise, set in the aftermath of humanity’s first contact with aliens.
Kinberg started his career as a screenwriter, penning 2005’s “XXX: State of the Union” and “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” before joining the “X-Men” franchise as a co-screenwriter of 2006’s “X-Men: The Last Stand.” He transitioned to producing every subsequent “X-Men” film, and he made his directorial debut with the final movie in the franchise, 2019’s “Dark Phoenix.” He...

The world of comic book movies stands largely on the shoulders of devoted actors who have dedicated a large portion of their careers to playing famed roles. From Chris Evans as Captain America to Scarlett Johanson as Black Widow, the list goes on. However, in terms of holding on to that role for the longest time ever, no one comes close to Hugh Jackman and his stint as Wolverine. However, despite a staggering tenure of 24 years and continuing, the actor has not evaded the thought of letting go of his character.

Let’s not beat around the bush; Marvel’s going through something right now. The superhero studio’s recent output has simply exhausted both casual and hardcore fans alike.
The sentiment appears to be close to universal too: amidst the avalanche of MCU content, there have been too few hits and too many misses. The fact that Bob Iger, Disney’s Chief Executive Officer, has publicly said that they’re going to change strategy and “slowly decrease volume” tells you everything you need to know.
So how does Marvel proceed from here? MCU mastermind Kevin Feige is seemingly planning to course-correct by re-assembling the Avengers sooner rather than later. Next year alone will see the release of Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, The Fantastic Four, and Blade, followed a few months later by a new Avengers—previously subtitled “The Kang Dynasty,” though that’s reportedly been abandoned.
It’s a sensible play.

Jessica Paré is known for proudly embracing the iconic gap in her teeth, which has made her smile famous.
When she first auditioned for Mad Men, it was to play the prostitute who slaps Don in the face during sex in season four. While Paré did not get the role, Mad Men creator Matt Weiner called her back for another role thanks to her tooth gap.

In 2012, she discussed her teeth and her Mad Men audition in an interview with New York Magazine.
Weiner found himself drawn to Paré’s gap-toothed smile. Her teeth are so distinctive he even wrote a scene in which Megan recalls being told she could never be an actress because of them. Paré doesn’t understand all the fuss.

Earlier this month, a pretty wild rumour started doing the rounds online suggesting Marvel Studios wants Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson to play Apocalypse in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
An X-Men reboot - hopefully titled "Uncanny X-Men" - will be released after Avengers: Secret Wars, but is the pro wrestler turned Hollywood A-Lister a good fit for the MCU? It's no secret that he attempted to exert creative control over the DC Extended Universe after attempting to turn it into the "DJ Extended Universe" with Black Adam!
That won't fly with Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige, but if The Rock is willing to play ball, then he could make for a suitably formidable En Sabah Nur in a future live-action X-Men movie.
In some new fan art, we get an idea of what he'll look like as the villainous Apocalypse and, honestly, it works. We still don't know how old the X-Men themselves will be,...

Cyclops. Wolverine. Jean Gray.
Some characters have been at the forefront of the Marvel brand that are intimately connected to the X-Men. It is as Captain America and Iron Man are to the Avengers, Reed, Sue, Johnny, and Ben are to the Fantastic Four, and as Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman are to the Justice League. Whenever it comes to introducing these teams in new mediums, these characters are the premier choices to build out the universe with.

While Wolverine, Cyclops, and Marvel Girl might be important characters to introduce the X-Men within any universe, a rumor has surfaced online that states that Marvel might forgo its premiere mutant team to focus on ‘underutilized’ characters to introduce the X-Men in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is getting bigger and bigger. Apart from Marvel’s first family making it into the universe, the fan-favorite X-Men, too, have finally made it to superhero verse. After Beau DeMayo’s X-Men ’97 showed how well Marvel is capable of handling the team, the prospects of the mutants making it to live-action have certainly garnered enough attention and excitement from fans.
After X-Men ’97, Marvel fans can hardly wait for X-Men’s live-action debut | Marvel Animation
This has resulted in fans making several casting suggestions and promoting various actors for different roles. And among the many actors being promoted by fans, Stranger Things star Sadie Sink has become a popular choice for Jean Grey. Yet not all Marvel fans agree on it and feel she might be too young to lead such a titular character.

Spoiler Warning: This story discusses major plot developments across the entire first season of “X-Men ’97,” currently streaming on Disney+.
To say Marvel fans have enjoyed the first season “X-Men ’97” — the continuation of the beloved animated series from the 1990s, widely credited for laying the foundation for the explosion of superhero cinema in the 2000s and 2010s — is a bit like saying Wolverine has a bit of an anger issue. The show has enthralled viewers with a dizzying narrative tapestry that’s been unflinching in its capacity to make bold choices. First among them was Episode 5, “Remember It,” in which an army of robot Sentinels slaughters thousands of mutants who had been celebrating in their island nation of Genosha, a truly shocking development that vividly — and trenchantly — evokes similar tragedies, from 9/11 to the Pulse nightclub shooting to the attacks in Israel on Oct. 7 and the ongoing siege of Gaza in response.

This X-Men ’97 article contains spoilers.
X-Men ’97 ended with more than a few spinning plates. Sure, Bastion was defeated, but the events sent some of the X-Men to the far future and others into the past. And yet a few others were zapped to parts unknown, such as Wolverine, who remains in critical condition after Magneto ripped out his adamantium skeleton. Back in the present, Forge and Bishop make plans to find their friends. Then there’s the matter of Professor X and Magneto’s mental states, which seems to be pointing toward the coming of the terrible Onslaught.
As that last point reminds us, as wonderful as X-Men ’97 is, a lot of its power comes from the Marvel comics that it adapts. The first season of X-Men ’97 ran quickly through some important storylines from the comics, including Inferno, Mutant Massacre, Lifedeath, and Operation: Zero Tolerance.

With the first season of "X-Men '97" finished, there's no denying that the animated series revival may be the finest work Marvel Studios has produced since "Avengers: Endgame." What may have started as nostalgia bait evolved into something much more interesting and nuanced after the shocking attack on Genosha. This really did change everything for the show, as the tone got darker and more serious, while the characters became more somber.
Another consequence of this genocide was that the central conflict of all the primary X-Men movies to date -- the clash of ideals between Charles Xavier and Erik Magnus Lehnsherr -- became much less complicated. How? The cartoon made it rather clear that Magneto was right all along. Humans suck, they will never accept mutants unless they're dead, and thinking otherwise is delusional.

Granted, Magneto has always been right, and the biggest problem with every "X-Men" show and...

The first season of "X-Men '97" comes to a close today, and the animated series has solidified itself as one of the best Marvel Studios projects since "Avengers: Endgame." While it would have been easy for the revival of "X-Men: The Animated Series" to coast by on cool nostalgia, showrunner Beau De Mayo (who was fired before the show's premiere) and supervising producer and head director Jake Castorena ensured that "X-Men '97" brought meaningful and emotional stories to life week in and week out, alongside the magnificent and modern mutant mayhem that zips through signature comic book storylines.
Similarly, Hasbro's Marvel Legends line of action figures have delivered an assembly of collectibles that take the classic feel of the animated X-Men and give them outstanding modern action figures. After an excellent first wave of figures, albeit one that could have used more accessories,...

The ideals inculcated during upbringing shape the course of one’s future, and that stands true for mutants as well. Despite being at the receiving end of vitriolic hate, prejudice, and violence from humans in the worst ways imaginable, the X-Men, the mutant team of heroes mentored by Professor X, chooses to show compassion and kindness even to their worst enemies as the titular team battles for survival against an extinction-level crisis. Especially judging from the harrowing spectacle and bold narrative decisions showcased in the past few episodes, the first season finale of X-Men ’97 comes off as a rather unprecedented and risk-free conclusion to an epic arc, which might result in a divisive reception among fans.
Previously, Magneto’s act of declaring a war on humankind by causing a global blackout led Charles and his team to try to reason with him while stopping Bastion once and for all.

Spoilers for "X-Men '97" follow.
Rejoice, my X-Fans, for your theories have prevailed.
The "X-Men '97" season 1 finale, the three-part epic "Tolerance is Extinction," ended in shocking fashion. The big bad Bastion sent Asteroid M on a collision course with Earth, deciding to force humanity into extinction rather than evolution. Professor X, unable to not see the good in Magneto, even after his frenemy's torturous attack on Wolverine, pulls Erik back to the light with a telepathic therapy session. The X-Men, once more including Magneto, save the world. But then they vanish, pulled through time to the past, future (Cyclops and Jean), and parts unrevealed. The past X-Men, stranded in Egypt, circa 3000 BC, meet a grey-skinned mutant that fans will certainly recognize.
As is Marvel tradition, there's also post-credits scene revealing that, while the X-Men are scattered across time, an old foe is rearing his head. In the present, En Sabah Nur's future self,...

Spoilers ahead for X-Men ’97.
Despite the raucous criticism that arose in the aftermath of Bryan Singerʼs atrocious fourth film (X-Men: Apocalypse) in his X-Men directorial biography, nothing seemed to go right in the mutant universe until Beau DeMayoʼs X-Men ʼ97.
Other than a few good scatterings here and there from Matthew Vaughn (X-Men: First Class) and James Mangold (The Wolverine), the Foxverse suffered and lagged under the curse of franchise sequels. Bryan Singerʼs exit after X2 took the life out of the X-Men universe until he appeared again in 2014 armed with the futuristic and brilliantly paced script of X-Men: Days of Future Past.
X-Men ʼ97 [Credit: Marvel Animation/Disney+]In hindsight, even though the 2014 film baked the already confusing timeline into an even greater mess, it was still a high point for the mutant universe considering what was to come soon after.
