Jensen Ackles on Tracker: Colter Reunites With His Estranged Brother Russell in Exclusive Sneak Peek
The relationship between Colter and Russell Shaw is nothing like the relationship between Sam and Dean Winchester. That much is evident in TVLine’s exclusive sneak peek at Jensen Ackles’ Tracker debut.

Remember how Jared Padalecki recently suggested a Supernatural reboot and revealed that he and Jensen Ackles planned it for 2025 back in the day? While we’re waiting for more news on that, the latter star returns to his notorious cool brother typecast in another new TV show. This time, it’s a CBS crime drama that looks mighty promising from where we’re standing.
Tracker: Everything You Need to Know (for Now)
On February 12, 2024, CBS released its new crime drama TV show called Tracker. The series follows a traveling modern bounty hunter who’s capable of finding anyone and uncovering any mystery — for the right price, of course. His name is Colter Shaw, and he’s willing to help civilians and law enforcement alike, in case they need a quick solution to their problems and have some extra cash to take off their hands.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Tracker Season 1 Episode 11 “Beyond the Campus Walls.”] It only takes until the end of the latest Tracker episode, but Colter (Justin Hartley) does sit down for dinner with his sister, Dory (Melissa Roxburgh). It had been a year without a phone call when the two reunited (he doesn’t call her back), and he showed her the file he got about their father—which includes something they hadn’t known: Their father was employed by the government for years. As Dory sees it, their mother was just as crazy as their late father, and she’s more than happy to leave that all in the past. She remarks that their brother Russell says Colter’s ducking his calls and tries to encourage him to talk to him. Though he doesn’t commit to dinner at the time, he does sit ...

Now, we’re getting somewhere!
It’s been many weeks since there was any movement on the Shaw Family drama front, but Tracker Season 1 Episode 11 had a nice subplot that answered many questions and finally introduced to someone else in the family.
Colter’s sibling reunion, of course, surrounded a case, but the two opened up a communication line that seemed to have Colter questioning more things about his past.
Before getting into the Colter and Dory stuff, a very twisty and odd case was at the forefront here.
And it was a damn interesting one, with Colter first suspecting a college student may have just bitten off a little more than he could chew and then quickly realizing he’d found himself engaged in some pretty dark stuff.
A college student feeling overwhelmed and wanting to take a break certainly wouldn’t be abnormal. Still, from the sounds of things,...

Tracker fans who want to know more about Colton Shaw’s family will finally get to meet his sister in Season 1, Episode 11 entitled “Beyond The Campus Walls.” The CBS action drama series has slowly been unpeeling the layers of Colter’s past. But, this episode promises to open up a Pandora’s box of new questions.
It was in the series premiere that showed the Shaw family’s unusual story. Ashton and Mary Shaw were Berkeley professors. However, as Colter remembered it, there was an “incident with dad.” That led the family to move to a compound deep in the Sierra National Forest. Although they were off-grid, Ashton Shaw was very paranoid. Therefore, he taught his children survival’s skills. That means they learned to hunt and track, and climb a place called Devil’s Notch.
Unfortunately, one day when Mary was gone, Russell took off, and Colter found

Call your sister more often, Colter! Melissa Roxburgh comes in as Dr. Dory Shaw, the sister of Justin Hartley‘s character on Tracker—”This is the first time I’ve worked with a friend, so it’s super nice to just be familiar with him,” the actress says—and it’s not easy for her to get face time with her brother even when he’s in the same area! Colter’s not one to call her, either, as Dory calls him out on in the May 5 episode, which introduces the adult version (a professor) of the character we’ve seen as a kid in flashbacks. “I think he’s been like this a long time now,” Roxburgh tells TV Insider. “I think that their whole family kind of fell apart when [their father’s] death happened. So I think this isn’t new that she doesn’t see her brother very much,...

The Shaw family drama is finally getting some attention during Tracker Season 1 Episode 11.
The hour will see Colter team up with his little sister Dory when a grad student goes missing after a house party.
Said student goes to the college Dory works at, and we'll see the long-awaited reunion between Colter and one of his siblings, whom we've only seen in flashbacks.
Little is known about Dory, as she wasn't a main factor in the flashbacks we saw of the Shaw family. And in the present day, Colter hasn't spoken about her much, if at all.
We know he's been avoiding big brother Russell, who seemed desperate to speak with him earlier in the season, but it hasn't been made clear what his relationship with Dory is like.
Colter keeps to himself, as we've seen throughout Tracker Season 1. He isn't one to date, or go on many social outings.

CBS announced not only its fall schedule, but a full lineup for the 2024-2025 broadcast season at a Los Angeles press briefing on Thursday.
As “Young Sheldon” is currently wrapping up its final season on Thursdays at 8 p.m., a headline of the slate is spinoff series “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage” taking over that spot, leading into “Ghosts” at 8:30 p.m. Additionally, “Tracker” — not only the No. 1 new series of the 2023-2024 season, but the most-watched series overall — is getting an earlier position, moving from Sundays at 9 p.m. to 8 p.m.

1 new series of the 2023-2024 season, but the most-watched series overall — is getting an earlier position, moving from Sundays at 9 p.m. to 8 p.m.

CBS‘ fall 2024 lineup is going to be stacked. Joining the 18 returning shows in the fall on the network are new scripted dramas Matlock (starring Kathy Bates) and NCIS: Origins, comedies Poppa’s House (starring Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr.) and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage (starring Montana Jordan and Emily Osment), and competition show The Summit. Still to come in the midseason are new drama Watson (starring Morris Chestnut), The Amazing Race, and Hollywood Squares with Drew Barrymore as the Center Square in January as part of the new “Game Show Wednesdays” with The Price Is Right at Night and Raid the Cage. Notably, CBS will not be airing new episodes during the 10/9c time slot on Sundays during the football season (which tends to delay primetime). Watson will slot in with Tracker and The Equalizer—switching time slots next season—after the end of football. And ...

CBS today became the first broadcast network to present its fall schedule. And, in line with CBS’ new strategy for long-term development and planning, the network announced its schedule for the entire 2024-25 season. It is contingent on IATSE making a new deal with the studios to avoid a strike. At the unveiling of the schedule, George Cheeks, President and CEO of CBS, said that they have contingency plans should a work stoppage occur but wouldn’t elaborate further. “If we need to delay, we are ready,” he said.

CBS executives were keenly aware of the elephant in the room Thursday as new co-ceo George Cheeks and entertainment president Amy Reisenbach opened their fall schedule presentation by addressing the latest rumblings in the sale process of parent company Paramount Global.
“It’s a super quiet, uneventful week for us,” Cheeks quipped as he kicked off the hourlong presentation just moments after news broke that Sony and Apollo submitted a $26 billion cash offer to buy Paramount Global.
Other than addressing morale — “we’ve all locked arms” and are “focusing on what we can control,” Cheeks said — both execs spent the press briefing at the Paramount offices in Hollywood focused on CBS and its 2024-25 schedule.
Cheeks and Reisenbach opened with a victory lap of sorts as CBS finished the strikes-impacted 2023-24 in first place, breaking a decades-old record set by the network with 16 straight season victories and 21 of the past 22 years.

CBS is taking a page out of Netflix’s playbook by announcing its programming success in the billions of minutes watched.
If you were wondering what that might mean to a broadcast network, it measures out to 456 billion minutes of CBS programming watched in the first four months of 2024.
With two new hits on its hands — Tracker and Elsbeth — this doesn’t surprise us in the least.
Here’s the real measure of their success, though.
Viewers delivered over 30% more time spent in front of CBS programming than Netflix and over 231% more than all other streamers combined.
No wonder they’re patting themselves on the back.
Those are incredible numbers that often go unnoticed when you use traditional ratings tools to deliver the news.
Even crazier, the time spent watching CBS programming has increased by 5.8% over the same period in 2023.
People often wonder how shows can be considered a success...

A broadcast TV season that began with cobbled-together schedules during dual labor strikes is ending the way every season in the recent past has — with CBS as the most watched network.
With a few weeks left in the September-to-May season, CBS will end up as No. 1 in primetime for the 16th straight season. The network is averaging 5.59 million viewers each night, according to Nielsen’s seven-day figures (through April 21). That’s about 580,000 more than second-place NBC (5.01 million); ABC sits in third with 4.29 million viewers, and Fox averages 3.35 million. The CW is back of the pack among English-language broadcasters with 462,000 primetime viewers.
Those numbers may change a little in the remainder of the season, but the order of finish won’t. CBS is off by 6 percent in viewers versus the 2022-23 season, while NBC lost 5 percent year to year. ABC ticked up by about 4 percent — with a big assist from a...

Led by ‘Tracker,’ CBS Declares Early Viewership Victory for the Truncated 2023-2024 Broadcast Season
Though the 2023-2024 TV season isn’t over yet, CBS is on track to maintain its title as the most-watched network for the 16th season in a row. Provided it stays on top over the next month, the broadcaster would break its own record for the longest-ever winning streak, which was set between 1955 and 1970.
According to Live + 7 data measured by Nielsen through April 21, CBS is averaging 5.59 million viewers, putting it 580,000 ahead of its closest competitor, which is NBC with an average 5.01 million viewers. ABC and Fox trail behind at 4.29 million and 3.35 million viewers, respectively.
The winning lineup is led by “Tracker,” the Justin Hartley-led drama series that is not only the most-watched new series of the season but the most-watched series overall. Behind “Tracker,” CBS also has the next three most-watched shows: “NCIS,” “Young Sheldon” and “FBI.” The No. 5 series is NBC’s “Chicago Fire,” followed by two more CBS titles,...

It’s time for some “CSI: Nielsen Ratings.”
CBS is set to win the 2023-24 season as the most-watched network — again — it’s now been 16 straight seasons of the same. CBS has now broken broadcast television’s longest winning streak on record, which was also CBS: From 1955 to 1970, when “Gunsmoke,” “The Andy Griffith Show,” and (some of) “I Love Lucy” ruled its airwaves.
Fast-forward 50 years to the current TV season, which runs from fall (September) through spring (May), and CBS has won 21 of the past 22 years. CBS is also poised to win the season among adults 18-49, long-considered the key demographic for advertisers, as well as its own target market, viewers 25-54. It is also number 1 this year among 18-34-year-olds; Super Bowl Lviii sure helped CBS pull those victories out of its football helmet.

CBS’ Tracker released earlier this year may have brought Justin Hartley to a whole new level of fame, but the actor’s face was very well-known before the show hit the channel back in February.
Several years before he landed the leading role in Tracker, Hartley starred in NBC’s family drama series This Is Us, the appearance in which may have foreseen something bigger coming in the actor’s way from CBS’ part in particular.
Though the series eventually ended back in 2022 letting Hartley jump straight to Tracker, such a transition surely felt like a drastic change in all aspects, but Hartley seemingly had no problem with it at all.
A brief disclaimer for those who didn’t get to see any of these shows so far: Hartley’s roles have solid zero matches in the characters’ looks and personalities. In This Is Us, the actor portrays Kevin Pearson,...

In 2003, martial arts enthusiast Lauro Chartrand-DelValle took a job as fight coordinator on Edward Zwick‘s historical action film “The Last Samurai” and assumed it would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. “I thought I was extremely fortunate to get a chance to do a samurai epic once in my career,” Chartrand-DelValle told IndieWire. He was thrilled, therefore, when Hiroyuki Sanada, one of the actors from “The Last Samurai,” revealed that he was working on FX’s new adaptation of James Clavell’s “Shōgun” and wanted to collaborate with Chartrand-DelValle again. “It was a dream job,” the stunt coordinator said.
Like “The Last Samurai,” “Shōgun” is a period epic filled with elaborately choreographed action and massive challenges for a stunt team, but Chartrand-DelValle felt well prepared given the series’ generous pre-production schedule. “Right out of the gate the first huge task was to train everybody as best we could prior to going in front of the camera,...

Well, that was quite the bloodbath!
Tracker is many things, but in general, it's not super heavy on death, though that can be a natural conclusion to an action-adventure story. Violence can and will lead to people losing their lives.
But Tracker Season 1 Episode 10 was heavy on murder, with many people caught up in the aftermath of a heist gone wrong.
Much like Tracker Season 1 Episode 7 was a showcase for Bobby, this hour gave us some insight into Reenie, who finally returned triumphantly after being Mia for a while.
Although we didn't get to meet her father, he was a factor, as his friend needed help, and it's always a treat when Gil Birmingham pops up in a show we love.
It was an exciting turn for Reenie to request a favor from Colton rather than hiring him, even though Colter would be getting paid in the end.

The mystery that shrouded stories told in procedural dramas like Law & Order has always been a key element that kept the viewers close to their screens waiting for another crime to be brilliantly solved.
And though throughout the years of the genre’s existence such kind of plot has become a bit trite, its popularity never fell victim to other hyping storylines — but a slight change of shape has surely done a good thing for crime-coded series.
One of CBS' most recent hits, an action drama show Tracker, comes as a striking example of the fact that the story can take a drastically different turn if just one element from the plot gets changed for something else.
Tracker’s storyline revolves around Colter Shaw whose incredible talent for tracking people or things (in a good way) could’ve easily won him a generously paid job in the police, but he...

Queen Latifah fans can rejoice! The Equalizer will be returning to CBS with all new episodes, the network confirmed that the primetime drama has been renewed for a fifth season. Here’s what Robyn McCall fans need to know about The Equalizer’s future.
Primetime powerhouse CBS released an official statement on April 25 confirming that they opted to renew The Equalizer for another season.
CBS Renews Queen Latifah As The Equalizer
“The Equalizer, led by the incomparable Queen Latifah, has all the best elements of a powerful drama. The series is stacked with suspense, heroism, high stakes and formidable characters our audience roots for. Another NCIS spinoff is coming to an end. CBS has canceled NCIS: Hawai’i after three seasons. The two-part series finale will air on April 29 and May 6. And given what series star Alex Tarrant (who plays Kai) previously told TV Insider, it sounds like fans are going to be left hanging. “There is definitely a special twist that comes in towards the end. It was a shock to me when I was reading the scripts, that’s for sure,” he said, adding that the finale “most definitely … ends on a cliffhanger.” NCIS: Hawai’i was the last current CBS show whose fate had yet to be decided. The network has renewed Tracker, The Neighborhood, NCIS, FBI (for three seasons), FBI: Most Wanted, FBI: International, Ghosts, Fire Country, NCIS: Sydney, S.W.A.T. (after it was previously supposed to be ending with the current seventh season), Elsbeth, and The Equalizer for the 2024-2025 season.

If you've been wondering when we'll meet the mysterious, potentially deadly old brother of our favorite reward-seeker, Colter Shaw, you are in Big-time luck.
News dropped officially via Justin Hartley's Ig page that Jensen Ackles -- yes, That Jensen Ackles -- would be joining Tracker as Russell Shaw. And the internet is going Wild.
Why are they going crazy, exactly? Because Justin Hartley and Jensen Ackles teaming up in an action-adventure series as brothers is just about the most perfect casting I've seen in a while.
And it goes far beyond the fact that they could actually pass for long-lost siblings.
Colter's journey throughout Tracker Season 1 has taken him across the United States, where he's helped countless people track down missing loved ones and even those who weren't necessarily looking to be found.
But while he's been racing around, saving the day and collecting his paychecks, he hasn't been able to outrun his past.
