Godawful

My word this is bad. While the actor playing James does a decent job with the slapstick (he obviously studied the original), you can see he wasn't trained or used to doing comedy for a live audience, so it doesn't come off as well.

The "comedy" here mostly comes from the references, where James does impressions of Crazy Eyes, Escobar, Underwood, and Saul. Decent impressions, I guess, but how is just doing an impression supposed to be funny? It reminds me of 90s video game "humour", where Duke Nukem would quote pop culture references and you were supposed to laugh.

Add to that a grating canned laughter track that's put over the whole thing and you have an exercise in tedium that pales in comparison to the original.

Also, a sly nod to bedtime procedure is turned into a "Netflix and Chill" joke, which has already aged by the time it came out of the actor's mouth, and over four years later is cringeworthy as all heck.

This is a parody in the same way Scary Movie is a parody. Make references to popular things and expect the audience to laugh.

Terrible remake of a classic piece of comedy.
