Superman’s future looks considerably brighter as James Gunn prepares the new version of the DC Universe. Further, even Jack Quaid’s 2023 animated TV series My Adventures With Superman, featured the superhero as a heartfelt and charming one. To be specific, ever since the end of Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel era, the fan-favorite character has witnessed bright and positive days.
Jack Quaid as Hughie Campbell in The Boys
The grim and gritty Superman is now considered a thing of the past. With James Gunn promising to bring a more hopeful Kryptonian, Henry Cavill’s gritty version is now history. However, despite starring as the Last Son of Krypton in the PG-rated 2023 animated TV series, Jack Quaid offered his rare support to Cavill’s grim version of Kal-El. Although he preferred starring as the positive and proactive version, he has nothing against the darker versions of Superman.

‘My Adventures With Superman’ Episode 4 Recap & Ending, Explained: What Is Prototype Parasite Armor?
With a journalist like Lois Lane by his side most of the time, it was never going to be easy for Clark to keep his identity as Superman a secret. Having been obsessed over Superman’s origins since his first appearance, Lois wanted to take an interview with the Man of Steel, and she got a brief version of that, too, in the previous episode of My Adventures With Superman. As Clark took on the Intergang in the previous episode as Superman, his vision-related powers kicked in, and he saved Metropolis from being frozen completely by destroying an advanced machine core. So far in the series, the presence of a covert organization is shown, of which Slade Wilson and Amanda Waller are members, and their investigations, along with various Kryptonian weapons, might reveal the secret behind Clark’s Kryptonian origin. In this episode, “Let’s Go To Ivo Tower, You Say,...

Over four decades before the current wave of superhero blockbusters, Richard Donner's "Superman" made audiences believe a man could fly in a way no other movie had before. At the time of its release, "Superman" was the most expensive film ever made. With a runtime pushing two and a half hours, the movie took its time telling the origin story of the Last Son of Krypton and his time in Smallville before his arrival as bumbling newspaper reporter Clark Kent on the streets of Metropolis. Among other things, "Superman" managed to parlay the spot-on casting of Christopher Reeve and an Oscar-nominated John Williams score into critical and commercial success, paving the way for your all your favorite DC and Marvel movies in the new millennium.
The film was not without its share of production problems, however. Tensions between Donner and executive producers Alexander and Ilya Salkind spilled over into his departure from "Superman II,...

“Superman & Lois,” whose second season arrives on HBO Max today, isn’t your typical Superman story. For one thing, it gives the Man of Steel and his Pulitzer-winning wife a pair of teenage sons. For another, it has a distinctly modern — see also: post-recession — approach to Superman’s hometown, which it achieves through its expert interplay between production design and photography. If you aren’t watching the show, you might be missing out on a timely depiction of Superman’s home, one that demands to be seen not only on its own terms, but as a thoughtful update to the version that exists within the cinematic memory.

Every dog has their day, and that includes Superman’s loyal companion, Krypto. The animated film DC League of Super-Pets finds the Justice League captured by Lex Luthor. But when a mysterious explosion grants a rag-tag team of shelter pets extraordinary powers of their own, it falls to these unlikely heroes—led by Krypto—to save Metropolis.
“The anchoring narrative is, we have Krypto, Superman’s dog,” director Jared Stern tells Den of Geek. “He’s got all the same powers as Superman. He has a pretty great life. He has the best owner in the universe. But he doesn’t know quite how to be a regular dog. The movie is about Krypto learning to be a bit more of a regular dog and making other friends.”

Superman is back, having been resurrected by motherbox power, and helping to slay the villainous Steppenwolf. So what’s next for the man who wears hope on his chest? Well, according to “Justice League,” he’ll go back to farm life, and presumably commute to work every day to The Daily Planet along with Lois Lane. But wait a minute….as far as his colleagues know, Clark just vanished one day (around the same time as Superman, but hey, no coincidence there, right?).

The resurrection of an alien being is not really something that requires much in the way of explanation – after all, we can assume that things just work differently for someone who is literally not human. But, the problem with the Man of Steel is that he has a human identity to maintain, in order to function on Earth and live his life – and this is where things get a little more complex for Superman in Justice League.
The end of Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice saw humanity mourning the recently deceased Superman, and close friends and family separately mourning the equally dead Clark Kent, but – while the Man Of Steel can essentially just return to fighting crime with few eyebrows raised, how can Clark Kent suddenly stroll back into the Daily Planet, without everyone immediately figuring out his true identity?
It’s a challenging question, and one that was not answered in Justice League.

As Morpheus in The Matrix movies, Laurence Fishburne crossed the divide between the real world and virtual reality. Nowadays, he’s doing something similar once again – by having a foot in both the Marvel and DC superhero universes. From 2013’s Man of Steel onward, Fishburne plays Perry White, the chief of the Daily Planet, in the Dceu. Beginning with 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp though, the actor will appear in the McU, too, as the giant-sized superhero Bill Foster/Goliath.
Just because he’s not enough of a sci-fi/geek icon already though, Fishburne has now revealed that he has another project with Marvel in the bag. According to him, it’s something he pitched to the studio himself which he hopes will “change the world.” However, it has encountered problems, with “a lot of legal red tape” preventing it from moving ahead right away.

I guess there are plenty of adults now too young to remember when Christopher Reeve made his debut as The Man of Steel. It was a massive hit across the full spectrum of moviegoers. Warners is taking good care of everyone’s favorite undocumented visitor from Planet Krypton, and has assembled two separate cuts of his big-screen premiere.

Welcome to another addition of Catching Up With the Classics where I talk about a comic book series or story that I have failed to read up to this. This time I am taking a look at Amazing Fantasy #15.
My Background:
I have mentioned in this series how much the X-Men cartoon series impacted my connection to comic books, and right there was also the Spider-Man: the Animated Series. Back in the day, I was a member of the Fox Kids Club so I would receive a monthly magazine about all the different cartoons that were going to debut shortly on the Fox Kids Saturday lineup. It was long before we got updates about everything long in advance due to different blogs or social media. Through that subscription, I first learned about the upcoming Spider-Man series and immediately got excited. Once it debuted I immediately became a fan and learned...

For a few hours on Thursday, Los Angeles stood in for Gotham City as thousands of Bat-fans lined the streets to pay tribute to the late Batman actor Adam West as the famed Batsignal was projected upon L.A.’s City Hall tower.
Burt Ward, who co-starred as the Caped Crusader’s teen sidekick Robin alongside West on on the phenomenally popular and slyly campy 1960s TV series, was on hand to celebrate the life of his longtime friend along with West’s wife Marcelle, his children and other members of his family.
West passed away June 9 at age 88 following a brief battle with leukemia.

Lois & Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman was silly, joyful fun. We take a fond look back at the 1990s series...
A flash of red cape, the S sitting proudly on the chest, the warrior of Truth, Justice and the American Way, Superman has always been the most recognisable and iconic of all the superheroes. After many changes on-screen over the years from the All-American hero in the 1978 movie to the recent darker and moodier version, you'd be hard pressed to go anywhere on the planet and find somebody who had never heard of the Man of Steel.

This is one of the best and funniest videos that you'll probably see today! It features J.K. Simmons' J. Jonah Jameson from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films and cuts him into Zack Snyder's Dceu. In the video, he's running The Daily Planet, and he's not one to take any crap from Clark Kent or Lois Lane. Watching him interact with these characters is so perfect, and it makes me wish that he was actually in charge of The Daily Planet! That's the kind of guy that they need. The video was created by DrMachakil, who is the same guy who made that ridiculous video of Tom Cruise falling through various films.

For the record, Jk Simmons is one of my favorite actors out there right now. Also, the fact that he’s still doing Farmer’s Insurance commercials even after being an Oscar winner makes me like this guy even more. A Youtuber decided to do a very subtle but very awesome crossover today. If you’re familiar with the Spider-Man comics you might know who Jonah Jameson is. For a refresher: Jameson is usually the publisher or editor-in-chief of the Daily Bugle, a fictional New York newspaper and once served as the mayor of New York City. Recognizable by his toothbrush moustache, flattop

When it comes to Justice League, which will be the largest entry in the DC Extended Universe yet (and that's saying a lot, when you think of how huge the scope of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was), you'd be fine assuming that every major character we've met so far is going to appear in the big event.
Apparently, that's not such a safe bet to make after all.
Laurence Fishburne, out making the rounds to promote John Wick: Chapter 2, answered frankly about whether or not the Daily Planet's iconic editor-in-chief, Perry White, was going to show up in Justice League. Fishburne has played the character in two Dceu films so far, Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, but he confirms that he will not be seen in DC's big team-up. Though, that's not for a lack of trying:

During a recent interview with the La Times to promote the release of John Wick: Chapter 2, Laurence Fishburne was asked if he'll be making a return as Daily Planet editor Perry White in Justice League. Unfortunately, that won't be happening due to some scheduling issues, but as Zack Snyder only wanted him for a day, it sounds like it was probably only going to be a brief cameo appearance anyway! "They asked me to come for a day, but I couldn’t work it out, schedule-wise," the actor explained. "And really, what do you need the newspaperman in Justice League for? You want to see the Flash. You want to see Aquaman. You want to see Wonder Woman. You want to see the Lantern." That's a fair point, but in praising the DC Films Universe, Fishburne made a pretty unexpected admission about Marvel! "We’ve been waiting 35 years for...

With larger than life heroes like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and more, Justice League is already going to be pretty busy as it is. Throw in numerous supporting characters as well, and you’ve got to wonder if Zack Snyder is going to be able to juggle everything in a satisfying manner. That remains to be seen, but one person he won’t have to worry about is Daily Planet Editor-in-chief Perry White, as it’s now been confirmed that Laurence Fishburne will not be in the film.
Speaking with the La Times to promote his new effort John Wick: Chapter 2 – which is really quite good, in case you’re wondering – the actor revealed that while Snyder originally had a role for him, scheduling conflicts ultimately got in the way.

After a year-long absence, the Doctor returned to TV in the 2016 Doctor Who Christmas Special, “The Return of Doctor Mysterio”. The sci-fi series climbed aboard the superhero bandwagon to show what would happen if the time travelling hero from Gallifrey met a Superman-like caped hero. Did the comic book homage work or was it a super stinker?
As we move into 2017, comic book inspired movies and TV shows are the most popular and lucrative genre going. Just this year, we’ve had six super hero films (Deadpool, Batman v Superman, Captain America: Civil War, Suicide Squad, X-Men: Apocalypse and Doctor Strange) as well as 6 television shows (Arrow, the Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Gotham and Agents of Shield), not to mention the Marvel Netflix shows. Therefore, it’s not too surprising to see other shows acknowledge the massive popularity of super heroes with a yuletide homage. That’s what Doctor Who did last night.

Margot Kidder, like most people, is kind of down on the films in the DC Extended Universe, and not just because they’re boring and dispiriting. Her particular issue is with the tinkering that filmmakers did with the characters and tone. Just look at Lois Lane, the hotshot Daily Planet reporter that she played opposite Christopher Reeve in the ‘70s and ‘80s, and see what they did to this feminist icon in Man Of Steel and Batman V. A UK artist has recreated key scenes from the infamous Superman IV in Milton Keynes. Take a look at The Quest For Peace: Redux here...
Generally regarded as one of the worst sequels ever made, 1987's Superman IV: The Quest For Peace is infamous for its cost-cutting. One of the great bits of 80s geek trivia is that the superhero sequel resorted to using British town Milton Keynes as a stand-in for Metropolis; these days, a big film studio might get away with something like that with a generous bit of digital matte painting. But back then, with Cannon Films repeatedly slashing Superman IV's budget, the results were glaringly threadbare.
Note to modern movie directors: sticking a plastic fire hydrant in a pedestrian area doesn't make a convincing double for a major American city, fictional or otherwise.

Noel Neill with George Reeves in "The Adventures of Superman".
By Lee Pfeiffer
Yet another pop culture legend of the Baby Boomer era has left us. Actress Noel Neill, who played Superman's love interest Lois Lane, has died at age 95. Neill began her career in Hollywood with bit roles in mainstream films. She was chosen to play Lois Lane, the intrepid female reporter for the Daily Planet newspaper of the fictional city Metropolis that Superman and his alter-ego Clark Kent called home. As colleagues on the newspaper, Lois and Clark were friends but it was always Superman that stole her heart. One of the more amusing aspects of the Superman legend is that Lois Lane, a top reporter, could never affirm her suspicions that Clark actually was Superman simply because his "disguise" consisted of a pair of eyeglasses. Nevertheless, the Lois Lane character was unusual for the era because...

Last week in Superman Rebirth we learned that main continuity Superman is in fact “dead dead” and that pre-“Flashpoint” Superman decided that he was going to take over. But this week in Action Comics #1, oh wait no Not #1 but #957 (they went back to original numbering) we get to see how he ends up coming back into the public eye and of course Lex Luthor had something to do with it! This book had a bit more of a classic feel to it, revisiting some of Superman’s well known adversaries Lex Luthor and Doomsday.
Superman is actually at home when him and his family see Lex Luthor on television taking out some presumed bank robbers. All the while proclaiming himself Earths new Superman, this of course does not sit well with Superman who quickly shaves, suits up and heads out to meet him face to face. I have no...

It’s been said that Warner Bros. only decided to move forward with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice just days before the announcement was made at Comic-Con. They clearly didn’t put a lot of thought into the matter then, but the prospect of finally having these two heroes meet and jumping straight to Justice League clearly appealed to them after Man of Steel.
The reception to that movie was mixed, so it’s easy to see why the studio ended up going down this route, but based on comments from Russell Crowe during The Nice Guys press tour, it sounds like a Man of Steel trilogy was being planned at one point.
“Originally — I could be completely wrong — I think there was a number of Superman movies. But I think they made the decision to jump past those and go to the idea of Batman and Superman in the same film.

Since it’s Memorial Day, this seems like a good time to dissect the remake of the film about a (super) man who represents “truth, justice and the American way.” This week, Cinelinx looks at Man of Steel.
He may not be quite as popular as Batman anymore, but there is no comic book superhero is who is more iconic and influential than Superman. He is one of the most well-known fictional characters world-wide (along with Sherlock Holmes, Tarzan and Dracula). Just as the introduction of the man of steel in 1938 began the super hero genre in comics, the debut of Superman: The Movie (1978) in theaters initiated the cinematic super hero genre. It spawned 4 sequels (counting Superman Returns) and a spin-off (Supergirl). Years later, after numerous Marvel films had pulled in big wads of box office cash, Warner Brothers joined forced with Legendary Pictures to re-film the story of the last son of Krypton.

Mere days ago it was revealed that Supergirl, the DC television series that began its life on CBS, was jumping to The CW Network. On The CW, it would be part of a slate that includes several other DC shows, which are all produced by the same man: Greg Berlanti (Pictured above). Now comes word that there's already a special crossover event planned for this December!
In a statement during the unveiling of their fall slate, CW president Mark Pedowitz mentioned the addition of Supergirl to its growing roster of programs:
"We have four terrific additions to our schedule next season, and five great anchors at eight o’clock, every night of the week. The CW has become known as the home of the best, most creative series on broadcast television, in a range of genres that appeal to the most balanced audience of any broadcast network,...

The concept of the superhero alter-ego is one that has sparked debates for the ages. The idea that these super-characters use other identities to keep their heroic exploits under wraps adds layer upon layer to the psychology of the superhero, as well as giving rise to drama, comedy and, above all, plot twists. Which aspect of the character is truly the real character – the superhero or the alter-ego? What does the choice of alter-ego say about the superhero, and about their perception of the world at large? What happens when the enemies of the superhero find out their other identity?
Perhaps the most legendary superhero alter-ego is Clark Kent – the famously mild-mannered journalist that allows Superman to hide in plain sight, simply by slipping on a pair of glasses. Discussion has raged for decades as to whether the real identity of this character is Kent, or Superman, with many believing...

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is supposed to give us the gladiator fight of the century. But the real competition we have our eye on here is Marvel vs. DC, Disney vs. Warner Bros. With these business rivals clawing for the hearts and pocketbooks of comic book fans and mainstream audiences alike, it’s easy to see Marvel and DC as opposing camps with loyal, flagship characters and stars. But plenty of actors have been friendly with both Marvel and DC. With the release of Batman v Superman, Ben Affleck joins the ranks of actors who have been in movies/TV based on characters from the pages of both comic book giants. Affleck’s Batman comes after the actor brought Daredevil to the big screen in 2003. Affleck’s BvS co-star Laurence Fishburne also had Marvel on his resume before taking on the role of Daily Planet editor Perry White in Man of Steel,...

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was pretty much doomed from the start. Even though comic fans like me have waited for decades to see DC’s two flagship heroes together on the big screen, Zack Snyder returning to direct after Man of Steel was the first red flag. Despite the excellent effects, Snyder displayed a profound misunderstanding of Superman.
It was hoped that given Snyder’s devotion to all things Frank Miller that we might at least get a decent take on Batman this time out, even if Superman continued to fall short of expectations. But now that Batman v Superman is out, it’s clear that not only doesn’t Snyder understand Superman, but he’s not too big on Batman, either.
Combine that with a ridiculous take on a classic villain and a plot that could optimistically be called incoherent and we’re left with...

Welcome to Outrage Watch, HitFix's semi-regular rundown of entertainment-related kerfuffles. Not feeling anxious enough already? Get your fix of righteous indignation below, and stay posted for outrage updates throughout the week. Warning: Major Batman V Superman Spoilers Below. Critics haven't been kind to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, with the superhero event film currently standing at a rancid 30% average on Rotten Tomatoes. Many of these reviewers have specifically taken aim at director Zack Snyder's alleged mishandling of the material, with Consequence of Sound reviewer Michael Roffman perhaps summing it up most succinctly: "Somebody stop Zack Snyder. Somebody save the world." Joe Gross over at the Austin American-Statesman, meanwhile, voiced his displeasure this way: "I'm not sure what Snyder has against these characters, why he is so determined to make them as distasteful as possible." That second quote feels especially appropriate in light of a story published today on EW,...

As Perry White, Clark Kent and Lois Lane's boss at The Daily Planet, Laurence Fishburne is strong, fairly level-headed and a bit of a pushover when it comes to his favorite journalists not completing the assignments he gave them. He's an old-schooler, and in Batman v Superman you can tell the disintegrating market for physical newspapers is beginning to take a toll on him (and his budget). Fishburne was a big comics fan growing up -- revealing to us that he would steal comics from the local candy store when he was six years old because he...

Given both its exhaustive, exhausting pre-release coverage and the painfully on-the-nose nature of its title, it seemed somewhat strange that Warner Bros. cracked down on critics as completely as they did for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, brandishing NDAs prior to the embargo date and all but begging them to refrain from revealing plot points after it broke.
As it turns out, there’s only one big spoiler that the studio’s measures were trying, desperately, to keep under wraps: namely, that the film, while an undeniably monumental risk in the arena of superhero filmmaking, is also a catastrophically failed gamble, a mess of devastating proportions.
Taken as a purely cinematic work (without giving consideration to its linchpin role in launching the DC Movieverse), Batman V Superman is shockingly shoddy. A leaden and lethargic movie that somehow features a sickening excess of plot points without any narrative drive or through-line,...
