In my review of the previous episode (S.8 ep9), I was harsh as I did not like it. This one (ep 10) was a bit of improvement, only because it did not follow the ridiculous storyline of ep 9.
Laverne Cox guest starred in this episode, and while it was interesting enough to hold my attention, there were some loopholes which I would state and hereby put spoiler alert.
Dr Laken Perillos is a torture specialist. Her reasoning or rationale for her torture regime is, her nother was treated very badly during some surgery or other, so now she is taking it out on others. And her mother was tortured by white doctors I believe. Now, first of all, if your mother suffered so much, wouldn't it be reasonable to assume that you would go in the opposite direction and try to help people in their pain?
Secondly, she stated that white people hurt her mother. Then why would you kidnap Dembe who is black like you and suffer him through that torture? It made no sense to me.
Thirdly, when she eventually was captured by the FBI, she crumbled worse than a crusty pastry. The fear in her eyes, her trembling, gone immediately was this fierce, scary torturer and instead was this weak, frightened person. It was ridiculous.
I don't know who directed this one, but I don't blame Laverne for how she played that; I blame the writer/director.
Something extremely wrong is going on at The Blacklist writers' table and they need to get their act together or they're going to be losing fans. I can't believe James Spader isn't saying something about all this. Get your act together guys.
