A 'good-could've been great' show but surely watch it for Sakshi.
TreeFiddy5317 April 2022
Sakshi Tanwar - good lord, what acting! Happy to see people who 'aren't mainstream' get a chance to portray what they've got. If not for anything else, you've got to watch it for her.

While the story was good, it had too many conveniences and coincidences for my liking. There was a lot of time spent on the power-struggle subplot.

The show is really good when it's just about Mai, but at some point, you've got to draw the line between Sheel being a regular mother and Sheel coming across as Batman. I personally think that line wasn't drawn - the show is good but could have been great - but that doesn't stop me from asking you to watch this show for Sakshi's stellar performance.

Rating it at 8 and not 10 because of the length of the content
sumitamukherjee-6030216 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The series revolves around Sheel and all what she does to find out why her daughter died. For that sake she herself kills some 5-6 people and escapes easily. Story is good, full Marks for thriller but it sometimes feels to be a bit lengthy..it could have been converted into a 4-5 episode series or 3hrs movie..the last part gives a hope that part 2might also come as her revenge is not over again.. overall a good watch during weekends.

Above Average
iSatchit16 April 2022
Its all about Sakshi, the whole series revolves around her.

She is good in what she does, as always.

Good story, but I personally found it slow and stretched, It could have been narrated better in a 02 hour movie.

No other character has much to do.

Only for Sakshi Tanwar🙌🏻🔥
rohit-4651817 April 2022
What a fantastic performance by Sakshi!! I had goosebumps throughout seeing her performance. She should get more opportunities like this. The way she cries reminded me of Jesse Pinkman, which really breaks you to the core. It is so RAW🙌🏻

Good but incomplete series
shoaibat-9135115 April 2022
Netflix made a good series after long time but it's incomplete. Maybe instead of long running series Netflix needs to make limited series like Delhi crime.

"Mother" - Family won't know their sacrifices
xabirs17 April 2022
An excellent story and what a buildup! Smooth build-up. The way Sakshi Tanwar acted in the series, is just unbelievable! This series shows what a mother is and what a mother can sacrifice and what a mother does for her child despite losing her reputation.

I am giving 9 stars because of some loopholes in the series. Some unrealistic scenes. Though, A must-watch series this is.

Sakshi Sakshi and Only Sakshi
gursons16 April 2022
I think director is hard core fan of Sakshi Tanwar like me, and he make a Crime Action series in 6 parts without thinking about script, good supporting cast and momentum which is a must ingredient of action series.

I watched this dull series only for Sakshi Tanwar. Wamiqa Gabbi lookin good, watched Prashant Narayanan after a long time, he is good too.

Overall an average dull crime action series, not bearable if you are not fan of Sakshi.

Slow steady and strong
sameerlodaya17 April 2022
Sameer lodaya

The makers have made this series with a very steady and strong content

The character of mother was superbly designed .. Sakshi has been really outstanding on her character with perfect direction from Atul..the director left no space for you to feel bored or dragged every now and then there were twists and turns..simple story of revenge was classically presented with high drama ,hard hitting scenes , politics, emotions ,climax is openly shut..the series goes in a smooth and steady way

Negative points is that the series is little slow and some scenes were unrealistically presented harming the mom character again a door was opened for season 2 which kills your enthusiasm towards the series

Makers smartly released on a long weekend where there were no major releases on OTT.

Mai - Breaking Bad in not so convincing way!
ReelShahid23 June 2022
I really had high hopes with this series with Sakshi Tanwar in the lead but never thought that I would end up watching a loosely inspired version of "Breaking Bad" with so many plot holes.

I was hoping for a suppliment to my ever increasing desire of thrillers, instead ended up having an anaesthetic!

Fabulous casting and screenplay!
jamboora15 April 2022
The series is really well-written. The production value is excellent, and the whole cast has been carefully picked. I like the music in the background, and the show is gloomy.

Tabbar+Mom=Mai
sadhanainsights18 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
If you've seen those 2, you needn't bother with this one. Watchable only due to Sakshi Talwar's presence

Too many Indian webseries are aping European and Turkish shows, with sarees and dhotis sprinkled in just like most Bollywood movies are copies of movies from other regions with AR Rehman music sprinkled on. Mai is not exception. I hope this doesn't become a trend.

Subpar plot, dull acting- its more boring than watching paint dry.
moyukhbiswas19 April 2022
A middle schooler reading lines from a textbook has more expression than the actors of this movie. Insanely uninteresting plot- there's no character development, no logical progression, just a random series of events.

Raima Sen sakshi tanwar did amazing job
sray-9287515 April 2022
Both the female characters very well played. Raima looks stunning and added glam factor to this series. Sakshi s character is very strong n pivotal ..however i found some part is really gory , well it's only because I can't handle it .

Nothing out of the ordinary. An okay okay series
dheevardp24 April 2022
An extremely predictable series with nothing great to say about except for the acting prowess of Sakshi Tanwar and Anant Sharma. If you do start watching dont expect an edge of the seat thriller. The writers have tried intertwining side plots in the main story but they simply falls flat. The only thing that works is the performances from everyone. The story is riddled with so many holes that it will give the Mumbai roads a run for their money.

There is a Season 2 obviously considering how the last episode ended.

You wont miss anything if you decide to give this series a miss.

Sakshi Tanwar Led This Revenge Crime Thriller on her Shoulders Brilliantly !!!
cs_rahul_prasad20 June 2022
'Mai' echoes the same crime-and-revenge genre as the 2017 Bollywood thrillers- 'Mom,' starring late Sridevi and Raveena Tandon's comeback flick 'Maatr.' They are comparable in many aspects, particularly the fundamental idea, which revolves around a humble and ordinary mother seeking vengeance for her daughter. In this series, Sheel's life is flipped upside down when she witnesses her daughter Supriya's tragic death. At first glance, it looks to be an accident, but Sheel quickly realises that something isn't quite right, and Supriya's death might have been an intentional murder. Following that, she sets off on a trip to discover the truth.

Sheel Chaudhary (Sakshi Tanwar), a middle-class woman, witnesses her daughter, Supriya (Wamiqa Gabbi), being hit by a truck. Soon after the accident, she realises that it isn't simply a hit-and-run case, but rather something sinister is at play, which feeds her determination to discover the truth.

Parallely, Farooque Siddiqui (Ankur Ratan), a Special Police Force Officer (SPF), is on the verge of exposing the people behind a medical scam and money laundering case, which is led by Jawahar (Prashant Narayanan) and his right-hand woman Neelam (Raima Sen), who manages the business alongside Raghu (Saurabh Dubey), Keshav, Prashant (Anant Vidhaat), and Shankar (Vaibhav Raj Gupta). Be it Farooque as Supriya's boyfriend or Sheel as Jawahar's mother's caretaker in the old-age home, the series' characters are either directly or indirectly tied to the mother-daughter duo in question.

The directors-debutant Atul Mongia and Anshai Lal, who made his directorial debut with 'Phillauri' (2017)-manage to extract outstanding performances out of the cast. On screen, Sheel, who is both emotional and vulnerable at the same time, and Supriya, her mute daughter, who manages to express her thoughts, are both flawless. The directors' use of close-up shots of the protagonist further heightens the tension. Wearing multiple hats in this project, Mongia is the creator-producer and has co-written this six-part crime-thriller with Tamal Sen and Amita Vyas, who, together, bring to life the mother-daughter duo's sorrow and suffering, human relationships and sacrifices, political scams, money laundering and much more.

This fictitious drama, like other crime sagas streaming in the OTT space, uses Lucknow as a background to depict the right and wrong behaviours in the city that influence the lives of ordinary people. The first few episodes seem to be heading in the right way, complete with an incredible emotional outburst from Sheel, but the story soon begins to waver. The script is well-written in terms of connecting all of the elements, although it does seem unduly stretched at points to keep the audience's attention throughout the episodes. On top of that, there are too many characters and subplots, and not all of them get enough time to justify their existence. For instance, Kalpana's (Seema Pahwa) backstory of being a victim of an abusive marriage and subsequently being a criminal is rather hazily described. The story was unable to connect with the audience since Kalpana's tale was communicated casually throughout her conversation with Sheel. Furthermore, several situations in which Sheel seems to be capable of practically anything, from scaling walls to deceiving the masterminds, are implausible.

Despite everything, 'Mai' is preoccupied with keeping Sakshi at the centre stage, which slows down the show's momentum, and in some cases, makes it less impactful. There is, however, ample room to dwell on a variety of human interactions, such as Sheel's evolving dynamics with her husband Yash and extended family which includes Bhaisahab, Bhabhi and their kid or her bond with Kalpana (Seema Pahwa), who has been by her side throughout. It could have been a taut thriller if Manas Mittal's editing had been more lenient, each episode-which is nearly an hour-long-could have been trimmed to keep the show's pace. Above all, it leaves ample hints for the next season as well.

Sakshi Tanwar is simply perfect and dominates the screen playing a grieving mother who swiftly transforms from being meek to merciless after the tragic incident: her agony at not knowing who killed her daughter and why, is palpable. Later, Sakshi's Sheel, who is a nurse-cum-caretaker at the old-age home, sets off on a journey to settle scores with some dangerous people. All the heavy-lifting is left for Tanwar, and she is every bit convincing. Wamiqa Gabbi, who was last seen in the Hindi film '83' as Madan Lal's wife, plays a young mute girl who is the series' victim and is particularly effective. Vivek Mushran, who plays Sheel's husband Yash, suffers from not having enough heft like the rest of the cast, including his extended family members.

All the characters are believable and contribute meaningfully to the plot. The SPF officer, unlike Salman's Chulbul Pandey or any other masculine cop, is a no-nonsense policeman who just understands his job well. Perhaps as a result, Ankur Ratan as Farooque seems to be an outcast in several action moments. Prashant slips into the skin of his character as Jawahar/Mohandas with minimum fuss and yet again delivers a performance that makes us despise his character. Raima may be portrayed as a beauty with intellect in her role as Neelam, yet she maintains the same blank look throughout the series. Prashant and Shankar played by Anant Vidhaat and Vaibhav Raj Gupta (Annu Bhaiya from Gullak), respectively, are twisted characters played well by them.

It's difficult to keep track of so many characters in a show that's essentially a whodunit but deals with a variety of twisted motives. But, all things considered, 'Mai' is a bleak and relentless crime-thriller that proves to be a compelling one even when it isn't always easy to watch. The drama slows down in between, and yet, there is constant action that keeps the audience on the edge.

Police procedures for amateurs
bonniath-1396816 April 2022
The past 12+ years I've been watching Bollywood movies turn into real world art. Lagaan was the first of this kind I watched. In the that have passed, the entire country of India has opened up to outsiders and its wonderful!

Mai is just the most recent thing I've got to rave about.

Mother feels her daughters death was more than an accident and tried to find out the truth even though she's naive and has trouble maneuvering the incredibly difficult and sometimes corrupt police system.

Loved it.

Do not underestimate the power of House wives.
Gloria_Green11 September 2022
If you make UP based stories , please make sure, all actors should be local based, atlest they know how to speak fluent and clear hindi, Few actors hindi was very poor when they delivering dialogue, at many places I was struggling to understand their sentences.

Completely different story..Some actors are good in their characters. The lead actress (Sheel) did great performance, i would love to see her in future series.. suspence , action and thrill was fine..what I didn't like about this series was, too slow direction, which is making me bore all the time, non practical concept, dialogues are really poor , not damdaar..Few actors really did bad job-SPF wife, Archit,I wsh there should be more romance, drama..The alignment of scenes was not into order.

Very Good Series
panchaitan15 April 2022
I have watched till episode 5 and still watching but I want to write how much better this series is.

May be I'm a bit biased because I am from UP and I've visited Lucknow frequently. But the acting, directing, screenplay is definitely worth giving 8 stars. Among all the hindi web series I've watched, this goes right to the top 3.
