The name sounds a bit cheesy but Gendy is going to change the wor(l)d...

I am going to be straight up and say that when you hear any name with the word "unicorn" in it, all I can think of is barbie dolls. But maybe Gendy is going to change that because the premise of this show is pretty interesting.

A group of characters that fight evil spirits/creatures in different time periods. What I kind of liked about it is that at the beginning of the show we see different time periods so that provides a great premise for episodes in different timelines.

About the characters and design we can see Gendy's trademark: robots who act like but don't look like humans (which I completely agree with, pass the Turring test without looking like Jennifer Lawrence, you rust buckets!), a magic sword wielding warrior (Samurai Jack), a black magic using witch (Ashi, Raven inspired) and a warrior monk (Primal).

All of this sounds pretty great.

They put pretty much in one episode!

The one thing I don't like so much is the animation style for the characters. Yeah, I understand it is inspired from by Popey or old school animation, it doesn't mean that I like it. I personally really liked Sym-Biotic Titan character animation which is basically cheaper Samurai Jack, but oh well maybe it will grow on me.

I will say this: this animation is the opposite of Sym-Biotic Titan style. That style was meant to evoke emotion in Samurai Jack style. This one is made to evoke emotion to pure old school animation. Everything looks hand drawn which is likely not the case. So that is pretty great.

So far so good
This was a solid first episode for the new series created by Genndy Tartakovsky; featuring an interesting premise, also with an interesting, pretty unusual cast instead of merely following stereotypes.

I mean, the battle between good and evil is perhaps the most overdone type of story made by modern fiction, but Genndy knows how to give it a certain "special touch" that only can be expected by the same man that brought us Samurai Jack and Primal.

Such a shame this show had to be moved to "Adult Swim" instead of Cartoon Network despite not having any real "objectionable" content, but it seems that nowadays kids shows must be only mindless fluff without a single trace of intelligence or subtlety. A shame, because I grew up with many great animated series that still haven't lost their charm.

In other times, this would have been as big as Samurai Jack was back then in the day.
