Fun episode that paid homage to the old Hollywood
ldamena16 August 2021
Murder Mystery films. I'm in awe of Matt Ryan's talent he was great this episode. I'm scared of Constantine's dark fell though because it's coming. LOL at the game also reminded me of the 80's board game comey film: Clue. Like all the pop culture references the writers are using this season. What will happen now? I'm intrigued.

A Spin on a Classic Game = Classic Legends
afrisco20 August 2021
This premise for this season has a lot of promise and potential, but ended up being extremely hit or miss and unfocused. There has been too much goof, the pain of a poorly executed villain, and the current lineup on the Waverider just doesn't have the chemistry and dynamics like they used to.

That being said, this episode, despite being mostly a bottle episode (but not exactly filler) delivered and felt like a good, classic Legends episode! The way I know the writers can do!

A fun premise in Jon using his magic to bring a board game to life, great character dynamics and growth (especially in Behrad and Zari!), and some movement on the overall storyline again.

Yes a few over the top things, like with the tentacle, and the appearance of another bad CW wig, but this one was a great balance of humor and drama.

The costume design was excellent, really nice cinematography and editing, the stakes were there, a somewhat predictable but nicely done plot twist, and some really nice conversations and character moments.

Come on Legends, an episode like this is the reason I loved this show, I want more like this! (And a more worthy villain!)

I'd put this episode in my top 10 favourite and it's convenient it released on my 18th birthday.

Legends!

Warning: Spoilers
Immediately after the events of the last episode. The Waverider's engines are damaged since Constantine used his powers to make the ship cross the Universe. They only have to wait for three weeks to arrive on Earth. Gary wants to play a game known as Beast Slayers with the Legends. Of course, they don't want to play with him. Gary sets up the game just in case they change their mind. The ship trajectory is getting longer because of power consumption. Something is up with Constantine, perhaps the effect of what he did in the last episode? Three days later, Constantine joins in the relaxation session. He uses his magic to make the room look better. Constantine foils his plan since Behrad is against him for almost putting down his pants. The Legends eventually join Gary as he explains the rules of the game. Constantine calls it quits and summons the Legends to his Mansion. In short, they're in the game. Poor Gary is left behind, but he joins in as the Narrator. He brings the Legends for dinnertime. Gideon detects a distress beacon by someone who is lost in space. And of course, Rory is with Gary. Rory commands Gideon to blast, but Gideon says no since she's following Sara's order to not consume the power which will make the trip go longer. Kayla is back! Ava is now the first kill, she cannot speak since the dead cannot speak. "How poetic." The Legends accuse Nate to be the beast. Wrong as he gets backstabbed. Sara realizes that the longer the game goes, the Legends will eventually become the characters of the game. Ava is dead for reals, this time. Sara dies as well. Everyone shows their cards. They read blank. Sara's card says: "You're all going to die." Rory prints a new tentacle for Kayla since he got attacked by poison, so she had to amputate it from it further spreading. Constantine casts a spell by mixing three chemicals and drinks for them to leave the game, which failed. Spooner realizes that there are two outcomes.

One: Kill the beast. Two: If they fail, they will be trapped in the game forever. Spooner tries to exit. News-flash, full of bricks covering the whole mansion, and the other exits lead you to the same room. Behrad goes looking for Spooner and Astra. The two eventually get killed. I am expecting that Behrad is the one because he has blood on his hands, or it could be Zari since she is acting the most innocent. OR IT COULD BE GIDEON? Ray? The old guy with the glasses from the early seasons? The other Zari? Constantine's boyfriend? Constantine? Rory confesses to Kayla that he is pregnant, revealing his head having hair. Kayla knocks him out. The Beast is the darker side of Constantine! How unexpected. Behrad and Zari run to the attic. Zari throws some sort of spear at the beast. Thus, ending the game! The ship has finally arrived on Earth! Constantine is still suffering from the effects of the Fountain. Spooner seemingly kills Lefty. Zari brings Constantine his tea. She realizes that he had a mark on his back. Sara sees Bishop.

Thoughts?

Wow, a lot of references. Barry & Iris, and the Black Siren. This is loads of fun, mystery, suspense. I am loving the moments between Behrad and Zari.

10/10.
