Any sensible mother would have called the police when she couldn't get an answer the entire night
deedrala21 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This was not a bad Lifetime movie - I usually give them 1 to 3 ratings, but this whole thing started off with a major plothole that had to happen or there would have not been any reason for the rest of the movie: Leah was not a stupid woman (like most female LMN characters), yet she let the entire evening and rest of the night go by WITHOUT calling the local police to go to her house in Seattle to do a safety check since she couldn't get anyone there to answer her calls. Her small child is there with a perfect stranger that she hired to watch her and neither one answered her calls for 12 hours, yet she never calls so much as the next door neighbor - much less the police - to go check on them??

It was also too implausible that ALL the charges against Leah would be dropped and that the insurance fraud by the computer expert would be so conveniently forgotten to ensure that Hallmark-style happy ending.

My favorite part of the movie (and of MOST Lifetime movies I've seen) took place in the restaurant when she slapped Valerie/Cathy/Lisa the first time, and then again in that backward arm thrust on the OTHER side of her face when the cop was leading her out.

Other than those aforementioned flaws, it was an okay/fair movie - not horrible in the least like so many LMN turkeys before it.

Grade C / 5 out of 10.

VIEWS ON FILM review of My Husband's Killer Girlfriend
burlesonjesse522 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
"Your daughter is in great hands". Oh boy oh boy, cray cray femme alert. It's been thirty years and over 1000 pics. Lifetime wouldn't have it any other way.

So yeah, 2021's My Husband's Killer Girlfriend is my latest write-up. It's about a nanny who frames a woman for leaving her small daughter unattended. And yup, the pseudo nanny just happens to be the lady friend of the woman's ex-hubby. Basically it takes about twenty minutes (and a misplaced edit) before you realize that My Husband's Killer Girlfriend means just what it means.

"Killer Girlfriend" sans modern times, goes back to basics for all those Lifetime network addicts (like myself). A plot hole here, a campy moment there, some conniving, some frustration, and some all out antagonism. Finally the malefactor character doesn't get away and finally there's a little justice for the victim (or I guess victims). My Husband's Killer Girlfriend is what you call old school hard knocks in the Lifetime network canon. Hey, after watching plenty of Lifetime flicks a la hack man David DeCoteau, you got no complaints here.

"Killer Girlfriend's" lead is played by Canadian-born Cindy Busby. The other actors are ready and game but you know she's the gamiest. Busby's Leah goes all Richard Kimble trying to accumulate evidence so the po-po can capture psycho nanny Valerie (a well cast Chelsey Reist). Heck, even Leah goes a little nutso herself. She's a mama bear with a chip and a gun and has to do whatever it takes to protect her cub.

All in all, My Husband's Killer Girlfriend is a little far-fetched and well, off-center. No matter. It's also more intricate with more complexity and savagery than most 90-minute Lifetime-rs. Watch for the ultimate, double-female slap scene at a swank restaurant. Oh Lifetime, you almost never disappoint.

solid lifetime movie

Warning: Spoilers
"My Husband's Killer Girlfriend" may be a solid Lifetime movie. It's an honest story, tight direction and a really likeable cast. The cast goes an extended way in making a movie like this enjoyable. The whole cast does a pleasant job, especially Cindy Busby. Busby really delivers the products during this movie. "My Husband's Killer Girlfriend" may be a satisfying watch. Honorable mention: a dreamy Chelsey Reist. .

A proper Lifetime thriller
CranberriAppl8 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I know an 8/10 is extremely high, but Lifetime really needs to do more movies like this with good actors, a good script, and characters that aren't complete morons. I am a fan of Cindy Busby from Hallmark, but The Wrong Stepmother was so bad that I almost didn't watch this. I recognized all of the main cast from Hallmark: the detective, Adam, Valerie, and Kevin the Hacker. Cindy and Kevin were in a HM movie together earlier this year, so I enjoyed their back and forth. He kind of reminded me of Hardison from Leverage, who was also a hacker, with his snark.

This is what a Lifetime thriller should be if they aren't going for camp. They didn't waste any time with the plot, the action began very quickly and the movie kept a steady pace. I reached a point where I thought things were coming to a close and I still had an hour to go. Yet it didn't drag on.

All of the actors played their roles believably, and the script covered a lot of ground. I didn't notice any gaping plot holes...which any Lifetime frequent watcher knows is almost never the case. I did think it was strange that Leah and Adam didn't fight over their kid, but for some reason she had to hide her work trip from him. It didn't make sense to me that Emma couldn't stay with Adam and perhaps in their situation, a nanny would work full-time for both homes anyway. I think it was meant to infer Leah perceived he would pounce on any chance to pursue custody, and to of course set up this movie, but it was a little murky to understand. When they explained the divorce, it really just sounded like stubbornness on both of their parts. Anyway, after Adam's initial disbelief at the situation, I liked that he didn't believe Leah to be capable of that which she was accused. I liked how he realized immediately when Valerie/Lisa lied and he was on board with his wife from that point. There was so much happening already that keeping them at odds was unnecessary drama, particularly since it was their daughter and they were both manipulated. If the movie had more time, it would be interesting to see if over the course of his relationship with Lisa whether or not things with Leah deteriorated. I also liked that they clarified he met Lisa after the divorce. Lifetime likes to make men cheaters, and there was enough going on w/o that.

The villain was well done. Not a ham and I believed her performance. Her motives weren't too far fetched, but I would have liked to see how she latched on to Adam and little Emma specifically. Cindy was clearly enjoying this and for me, she redeemed herself after The Wrong Stepmother (gosh that movie was TERRIBLE). Her character started the movie with the stupidest action, but unlike a lot of other Lifetime "heroines," it didn't take her the whole movie to realize her mistake and own up to it. In spite of being set up by Valerie/Lisa, she still committed plenty of crimes, so I liked that they didn't hand wave her legal troubles away or ignore them wholesale. I also liked that anyone doing wrong was called out. Leah for her multiple crimes, Kevin for insurance fraud as well as his concern about hacking. The detective calling out everyone lol, the husband catching Valerie/Lisa in a lie, Valerie's reaction to Adam not wanting to marry her (she's crazy but she had a point), etc. Even the officer owning up to falling for Valerie/Lisa's scam at the end.

The police weren't total idiots and I liked that the detective balanced law and order with understanding Leah's plight (but not excusing her actions). A couple of the stretchier points were the psychiatrist violating all kinds of privacy laws, and poor little Emma being sedated almost the whole time. The whole movie would have been solved if she could identify her "nanny," so I understand the choice.

I really enjoyed this. There was drama, humor, action, and Lifetime should air more movies like this to balance out the campy flicks. It's worth a watch and I saved it on my dvr to watch again.

Horrible Acting
typhoonrobb26 December 2021
I got suckered into watching this train wreck of a movie. You can totally tell this is a Canadian movie. The acting is so bad, especially by Cindy Busby. The over acting is laughable at times. 2 hours of my life I won't ever get back.....

Should have been called "My Husband's Screwball Girlfriend"!!!!
mja5820 June 2021
The "killer" girlfriend in this outing is a full-blown raging SCREWBALL!! Pretty good - I was actually guessing at some of the plot points that revealed themselves later in the movie.

From this movie I learned that....

1. A cheap wig can completely disguise your appearance to virtually everyone.

2. Police will follow the rules to the GREATEST extent, even to the point that it seems that the rules are more important than people.

3. Cindy Busby can play one TOUGH lady!!

4. Women can fight as hard and savagely as any men.

Really kind of violent, but the ending is pleasant enough and left me scratching my head. (You'll know what I mean).

7/10.

Another manipulative psychopath

Warning: Spoilers
I couldn't get past that Leah left her daughter with a stranger for three days. She didn't tell the child's father she was leaving, and also forgot that her child wud have a birthday while she was gone. What mother does that. I had difficulty sympathizing with Leah because of that, and also her voice was very annoying. It is a typical poor acting LMN movie.

CINDY BUSBY DID AN AMAZING JOB! SHE IS.

A QUEEEEEEEEENNNNNNNN. The only thing that would've made this movie better is some hot chocolate... aka Vivica A Fox!

Good despite plot holes.
tomfsloan26 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
My Husbands Killer Girlfriend. Not bad. Although another script re-write would have helped. The best part was Cindy Busby's acting. She seemed pretty real. She did what I would expect, as opposed the husband and nanny and neighbor and others etc. The best was when Leah confronted the bad woman where she slapped and punched her at the restaurant. Yay.

The chase scenes were hard to take. Overall quite entertaining despite the massive plot holes.

Plot too weak
fdrsmom19 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Within a hour of not being able to get in touch with her new nanny, the mom would have called a neighbor, her ex husband or the police to check in on them. Trying to paint her as some dedicated mother AND a victim is shaky .

Good actors need a solid script!

This is Cindy's best!
haroot_azarian23 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This by far is Cindy Busby's best LMN movie performance. She is always cast as a chirpy happy-go-lucky clueless innocent victim, or on one occasion as a psycho stepmom-to-be. It's action packed and she fights tooth and nail be it with cops or smack the psycho girlfriend not once but twice in a restaurant and all the running and chasing, all in all made it very entertaining!

A Karen power fantasy
hjalsayegh3 May 2021
Cindy Busby is Karen. No, that's really it down to the hair cut.

The premise is that she leaves her kid for three days with a nanny. Only the nanny is (insert title here) and from that point onwards nobody cares about the plot device, it's just the world against Karen and she must fight them all to prove how amazing she is. So what if she physically assaults random people and a cop, so what if she breaks in to another person's house.

That's fine and you're wrong for questioning her! SHE IS KAREN AND HAS EVERY RIGHT TO YELL HER LUNGS AT YOU! Unless you yell back then she'll back off like a proper Karen does, manners after all.

The movie does nothing to shift you to her side which is impressive consider "a mother scared for her child" is the easiest sell in the world. Here though the child doesn't matter. Just Karen does and her indignation.

There is also some deep seated white entitlement and racism going on in the background of a few scenes. I want to think that it was on purpose to show case her as a bad person but I don't think the movie is that smart. Avoid it, not worth your time.

Dumb

Embarrassed that I watched it. Maybe it is because it is Saturday and just wanted to faze out. I gave it 2 stars due to the fact that I am Canadian and felt really bad, to give it a zero.

The only person that had any skills for acting ability was the mother.

However, on a happier note, while fazing in out I tried hard to recognize some areas in Canada.

That was the only big plus to the show.

Not bad for lifetime
jmgimbel14 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It's hard to believe any mom would go away leaving a brand new nanny in care of their child.

When new nanny refused to answer all night no way mom doesn't freak out, call cops.

This chick is nasty nO matter her situation, screaming at everyone to do as she demands.

It's a fun romp though, if highly implausible, esp for lifetime. It actually has real characters to boot.

White bait
ThunderKing612 May 2022
A strainy lifetime movie. I loss interest after 30min. The story is a copy and paste lifetime movie. You know the same old Mentally ill lady, lady overpowering men, I don't believe you, fugitive... Etc the same old formula from lifetime films. It gets dull.

The white bait bubbles make their acting look decent.

Don't waste your time like I did
AnnPanders3 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
So I'm going through all these free LMN movies on YT, but this is just awful. It's so bad I'm embarrassed to admit I watched it to the predictable end. I know we talk alot about plot holes, but this REALLY stretches it.

1. Why didn't they just ASK the little girl if she was left in care of a nanny? The cops here are stupid AF, but couldn't the father have just asked his daughter instead of the scary cops?

2. Mom does her Richard Kimble thing and somehow moves all around the town after assaulting a cop AND at gunpoint takes another one hostage. Hmm, an APB would have been handy here dontcha think? My butt would have been discovered and arrested within a few hours in real life. But nope, the mom is able to just break in to anyone's house, threaten people, assault whoever, and still remain at large. Unrealistic.

3. It's 2022 and a quick GPS on ANYONE's cell phone these days will give the authorities about ten minutes before they find the "Karen Mom" who is a fugitive still moving about with her cell phone. It's kind of insulting to the viewer.

4. After going through some Chinese dark web internet technology they are able to not just identify the crazy girlfriend but also CALL and get info from her psychiatrist? And he talks to this stranger about.a patient? Hmm. I would have told the psych to immediately call the local authorities to tell them about the killer's real identity. Problem solved. But no....

I don't expect all that much from LMN flicks, but this was a joke. And I sadly watched it to the end. Oh well, I'm sick in bed with Covid so have nowhere else to go, except an insane asylum for continuing to watch these awful flicks. I'm a masochist, I guess.

Please don't waste your time on this one. It's bad bad, way past LMN Bad.

Awfully Dumb
damima752 October 2022
Honestly, the only thing keeping me from giving this movie negative stars is that we get to see Lane Edwards briefly shirtless in it. 10/10 on that hot, furry chest and treasure trail. That was outstanding. The rest of it was terrible.

You really have to suspend ALL disbelief with this one, because there is no semblance to reality here, no logic or rational explanations for why the characters do the things they do. What kind of parent abandons their child with a complete and total stranger that they just met? Or forgets that their kid is in the hospital because they're too busy fooling around with a psycho? None of it made any sense.

DVR it, fast forward to the Lane stuff, then skip the rest.

My brain hurts.

Warning: Spoilers
Crappy wig. Crappy plot. Just crappy all around. How do you just give your kid to somebody you never met and go out of town???? Then you don't tell her farther also?? Then Leah all of a sudden becomes super woman?? Caring mother. Strong willed parent. Adam a tool of a father getting with a woman who was way too hot for this goofball actor. Lane Edwards is just an awful actor period. The girl who played his daughter acted tougher than he did. And she was awful. What's up with LMN law enforcement?? They're weak. Clueless. And utterly just dumb. Give me a break. Stealing his coins.........really? Talk about a paper (coin) trail. Adam just needed to be smacked up side his head more than once. Should've made his brain hurt more than mine for watching this movie.
