A much better episode.

The first part was dull to say the least, I struggled with the attitudes of many of the characters, they seemed about a hundred years behind the times in their thinking. In light of the revelation, I wonder if they were going for maximum effect, I suppose attitudes and mind sets were a little different when this was made back in 1991, and certainly very different when Rendell wrote it in 1964. The outcome was definitely a surprise, but well delivered, well acted, and refreshing, a much more interesting segment then the first.

Lots of red herrings, and plenty of effort made to lead you to the wrong conclusion. Amanda Redman was great, Elizabeth Bennett was excellent.

The quality is definitely there in the writing, I imagine the outcome would have been something of a surprise for viewers in 1991. Personally I think it holds up quite well, a DVD release would be nice.
