- Sergei Bazhaev: [Over the phone] what do you want?
- Vladimir Laitanan: I apologize for calling you out of the blue like this sir, your family is well?
- Sergei Bazhaev: [Irritated] I said what do you want?
- Vladimir Laitanan: I have a business proposition
- Sergei Bazhaev: Then call me during business time: not in the middle of the night
- Vladimir Laitanan: No, no, this can't wait. I hear there are "materials" for sale? Expensive "materials", dangerous ones
- Sergei Bazhaev: Talk "straight", what "materials"?
- Vladimir Laitanan: Nuclear rods, highly enriched uranium
- Sergei Bazhaev: So why are you calling me?
- Vladimir Laitanan: If anyone has the organization to "pull off" this kind of deal, it's you
- Sergei Bazhaev: I'm flattered
- Vladimir Laitanan: I have a buyer here, a German, his willing to pay a great deal of money for them
- Sergei Bazhaev: Then he is as stupid as you are, are you out of your mind? Nobody deals nuclear rods anymore: nobody
- Vladimir Laitanan: I'm sorry, it's a misunderstanding
- Sergei Bazhaev: [Before hanging up] don't call me again
- Renee Walker: [Talking privately] what the hell are you doing?
- Jack Bauer: I have authorization to "pull you out"
- Renee Walker: No, that's not possible
- Jack Bauer: You've taken us this far, I'm going to finish it
- Renee Walker: [Referring to Laitanan] you can't: he doesn't trust you first of all. The only reason his agreed to continue this is "me", I'm fine, really
- Jack Bauer: [Sternly] I am "pulling you "out"
- Renee Walker: Look, it's not a big deal
- Jack Bauer: I know what he did to you six years ago and it is a big deal
- Renee Walker: If we stop this now and everything I've done is for nothing
- Vladimir Laitanan: [after hanging up the phone, referring to people his called asking about the rods] that's it. It's the last one: he knows nothing about nuclear rods, he also said its suicide to deal them. Meier has wasted our time
- Renee Walker: No. Look, Meier's intel was good so we need to think who else can we call?
- Vladimir Laitanan: No one, I've called everyone who can possibly deal with these things
- Renee Walker: Somebody you already talked to has to know something
- Vladimir Laitanan: It's done
- Renee Walker: Look, maybe they don't want to admit it. Maybe they don't know how serious you are. You should call them back
- Vladimir Laitanan: I said no
- Renee Walker: Tell them you have the buyer, tell them you have the money
- Vladimir Laitanan: [yells] shut up. Just because I like your face doesn't mean I have to deal with your crap: we made five million, it was nice work
- Renee Walker: Why settle for five when we can have fifty?
- Vladimir Laitanan: [laughs and hugs her] when did you get so greedy? Five million is plenty. Plus we have each other. It's not so bad is it?
- Renee Walker: It's not bad but it could be better, call him again: do it for me
- Vladimir Laitanan: I said no
- Renee Walker: Come on, push them harder, somebody knows "something"
- Vladimir Laitanan: What is your problem? There's no one left to call. You go out there and you tell to Meier to leave ok?
- Renee Walker: I'm not telling him anything
- Vladimir Laitanan: [surprised] what?
- Renee Walker: Not until you try again
- Vladimir Laitanan: [grabs her, yells] it's over, what is wrong with you?
- Renee Walker: [yells back] I need this deal
- Vladimir Laitanan: That is why your here? The deal?
- Renee Walker: Why else? Do you think I'm here for you?
- Jack Bauer: [Over the phone while attending to his stomach wound unintentionally caused by Renee] Laitanan called everyone he thought who might have information on the nuclear materials: no one responded, that's when he said he was finished and Renee kept pushing him. It got ugly: Laitanan is dead, he attacked her
- Brian Hastings: And then what? You took him out?
- Jack Bauer: No, she did
- Brian Hastings: She did? Half an hour earlier she was having sex with the guy. How's that even happen? Did she lose it?
- Jack Bauer: She was defending himself. Look, we knew this guy was violent before we even went in
- Brian Hastings: He's violent? His dead on the floor
- Jack Bauer: Yes, he is. Right now, we still don't have the nuclear materials secured so I suggest we move on
- Brian Hastings: Move on? He was our only lead. Where do we move on to?
- Jack Bauer: We start by working the phone calls Laitanan made: there are also physical files here in his computer
- Jack Bauer: You can have your life back anytime you want. You just need to want it.
- Renee Walker: How? I have tried, and I don't know how. I don't - I don't have anything, anyone.
- Jack Bauer: You've got me. Okay?
- Nick Coughlin: [Talking privately] congratulations madam President
- President Allison Taylor: Thank you, I appreciated your support
- Nick Coughlin: Good, now you'll be happy to explain to me... what's really going on
- President Allison Taylor: I thought I did
- Nick Coughlin: You invoked "national security" which with respect is not an explanation, it is an un-done task: our countries have a unique relationship based on a trust developed a century earlier: anything you say to me is in the strictest confidence
- President Allison Taylor: You tell your Prime Minister and no one else that President Hassan's crackdown isn't just on the attempt on his life. There are unsecured nuclear materials "in play." Apparently a "faction" inside his country was so disturbed with the prospect of disarmament that they decided to take matters into their own hands
- Nick Coughlin: Where are the materials?
- President Allison Taylor: Here on our soil. CTU is running an undercover operation to recover them as we speak
- Sergei Bazhaev: [Talking privately] look at me, I want you to understand everything I've done, I've done for you and for our family
- Josef Bazhaev: You killed my brother
- Sergei Bazhaev: Because I loved him. Because I couldn't bear to see him suffer because there was no other way
- Josef Bazhaev: There's more ways and other ways
- Sergei Bazhaev: Not when you're dealing with nuclear materials: we cannot risk the authorities finding out. You know that? You don't know why I'm doing this? Because when I die, I want to leave you and your family a vast inheritance: wealth, respect. Can you understand that?
- Sergei Bazhaev: [When he doesn't respond] one day you will, when your son grows older, you will and you will understand how much I love you: my only son
- President Allison Taylor: [Over the phone] we were scheduled to resume our discussions
- President Omar Hassan: I'm late, I apologize: the events of this evening...
- President Allison Taylor: [Interrupts him] the events of this evening may be more important than ever that we complete our work on this treaty, I need to know your intentions
- President Omar Hassan: My "intentions"?
- President Allison Taylor: The "crackdown" on your countrymen, I've been informed you've even arrested one of the members of your delegation
- President Omar Hassan: That's an internal matter
- President Allison Taylor: No, sir it is not. Less than an hour ago, I assured delegates from two dozen countries that you were still our best of hope for peace. I "personally" guaranteed them. You observed the letter and the spirit of this agreement we're signing
- President Omar Hassan: And I will
- President Allison Taylor: Do I have your word on that?
- President Omar Hassan: Within the next few hours, the arrests will stop. I'm taking measures to assure that
- President Allison Taylor: And the delegate you've taken into custody?
- President Omar Hassan: He will be released or charged: you have my word
- President Allison Taylor: [Before hanging up] thank you
- President Omar Hassan: Did he talk?
- Tarin Faroush: No sir. Jamot denies knowledge of the plot against you
- President Omar Hassan: How "forceful" was the interrogation?
- Tarin Faroush: Very, I did it myself. I don't believe his involved with your brother in any way
- President Omar Hassan: You know Jamot has connections with extremists?
- Tarin Faroush: A cousin in the opposition party, that's all
- President Omar Hassan: [Stands up from his desk] if he won't talk, we'll have to force the issue: he has a wife and children back home. Is that correct?
- Tarin Faroush: [Referring to the ages of Jamot's children] a boy 9, a girl 7
- President Omar Hassan: Have Security Services arrest him: apply whatever pressure is necessary to make Jamot talk
- President Omar Hassan: [after he doesn't respond] you have something to say?
- Tarin Faroush: Yes sir. I do. You rallied us around the promise that you would put an end to such tactics. I will do everything humanly possible to find your brother but please do not ask me to violate the principles that you and I stand for
- President Omar Hassan: [Realizing his mistake] thank you, with my wife gone, I have no one to speak the "truth" to me anymore. Check everyone's computer and phone records again: see to it that nothing was overlooked
- Tarin Faroush: Of course
- Kayla Hassan: [after knocking on the door to her hotel room] are you alright? When did you get back from the embassy?
- Tarin Faroush: Just now. May I come in?
- Kayla Hassan: [while he nervously looks throughout her hotel room after she lets him in] it's only me here
- Kayla Hassan: [after hugging] what's wrong?
- Tarin Faroush: Your father has people arrested, including Jamot and now his having Jamot's wife and two children detained back home: so they can force him to talk
- Kayla Hassan: [Shakes her head] no, there must be some mistake
- Tarin Faroush: He gave the order himself. I thought I convinced him not to but he was lying to me: he went behind my back. Your father is a great man, I respect him more than anyone I've known but Farhad's betrayal has changed him
- Kayla Hassan: What can we do?
- Renee Walker: You didn't have to do that
- Jack Bauer: Do what?
- Renee Walker: Cover for me with Hastings
- Jack Bauer: All I did was tell them the truth
- Renee Walker: When they see Vladimir, they'll know what "happened"
- Jack Bauer: What do you think "happened"?
- Renee Walker: Like you said, I couldn't handle it. I'm so sorry
- Jack Bauer: It's alright
- Renee Walker: No, it's not. I could've killed you... I made such a mess of everything. I just thought if I did this, I could make it all "right." I could have my life back
- Jack Bauer: [Kneels down in front of her] hey, you can have your life back anytime you want: you just need to "want it"
- Renee Walker: [Cries] I "tried", I don't know how. I don't have anything... anyone
- Jack Bauer: You have me ok? Hey, look at me. Ok?
- Renee Walker: I don't want "it" to end like "this"
- Jack Bauer: I know. Look, we're further ahead than we were three hours ago. Every call Laitanan made is a solid lead and that's because of you. You did your part now let CTU do their job
