Quotes

  • Marshal Leigh Johnson : It's gonna be a bloody job.

John Marston : I don't know any other kind

  • Marshal Leigh Johnson : What are you doing here Mr. Marston, apart from frightening my deputies?

John Marston : I'm here to capture or kill Bill Williamson.

Marshal Leigh Johnson : [laughs]  Okay!

John Marston : Can you help me?

Marshal Leigh Johnson : He's outside my jurisdiction, he's in the next county. Of course, Bill Williamson and his boys have tended to keep themselves away from my town.

John Marston : So you're happy to have him out there?

Marshal Leigh Johnson : Well, I ain't happy, but I also ain't suicidal. My job is to keep this town safe, not clean up all of these 3 counties. It's hard enough around here.

John Marston : Ya know... I hear you speak, and suddenly I'm reminded of how some of the people I respected most in my life had a problem with authority. What's wrong with you?

Marshal Leigh Johnson : Well, I'm sure you and your fine friends have enjoyed spending your time running around pursuing noble causes. My cause is to keep this town from turning into a living hell for the folks who live here. Whole world has problems, mister, and I'm here, doing what I can.

  • Drew MacFarlane : I don't have a clue, all right, but it's gotta be somethin' to do with that government boy.

Marshal Leigh Johnson : We'll talk to him, find out what he knows.

    Drew MacFarlane : Fuckin' is.

    [Marston walks in]

Drew MacFarlane : [furious]  Where is she, Marston?

    John Marston : Who?

Drew MacFarlane : Who? My daughter, ya fuckin' scum! Where's Bonnie?

John Marston : I don't know, I haven't seen her since after the fire. Why?

Drew MacFarlane : Why? Because she hasn't been seen since yesterday afternoon.

    [to Johnson]

Drew MacFarlane : I don't think I can cope! If I lose another child...

Marshal Leigh Johnson : Now, Drew, nobody's lost anything yet. I'm sure she's fine...

Outlaw on Horse : [offscreen, outside]  Oh, Mr. Marshal! Mr. Marshal! Come out, come out, wherever you are!

Marshal Leigh Johnson : Who the hell's that?

[they walk outside to find a mounted Williamson gang member waiting for them]

Outlaw on Horse : Even better. Good day, Mr. MacFarlane.

Marshal Leigh Johnson : Get down from that horse, boy, or I'll shoot.

Outlaw on Horse : [laughs]  I wouldn't recommend that, mister. Not if Drew MacFarlane wants to see his Bonnie back in one piece. Hey, Mr. MacFarlane! That's a nice girl you got there.

Drew MacFarlane : Get down from there!

Outlaw on Horse : Y'know, part of me's got to thinkin' I should just marry her myself. Give her a baby and that.

Marshal Leigh Johnson : What do you want?

Outlaw on Horse : That's better. I want Norman Deek. I want him set free. Then you'll get your daughter back, mister.

Marshal Leigh Johnson : We don't do deals with outlaws, boy.

Outlaw on Horse : Yeah, you do! Let's not waste each other's time pretendin' otherwise. Whole government themselves ain't much more than a bunch of crooks! This is the land of opportunity, mister! And I'm givin' you the opportunity to get your daughter back, before 15 friends of mine take out all their anger and their loneliness on her.

Drew MacFarlane : Where the hell is she?

Marshal Leigh Johnson : Where is she, boy?

Outlaw on Horse : Bring Deek up to Tumbleweed in a couple hours. And don't get no funny ideas, or I will slit that whore's throat myself! You boys have a pleasant afternoon. Yah!

    [he rides away]

Marshal Leigh Johnson : What do we do?

John Marston : We do as he says. You and me, Marshal. Mr. MacFarlane, I'll get you your daughter back. I owe her that.

Drew MacFarlane : [grasps Marston's hand anxiously]  Please do.

  • [Marston pushes Deek forward at the entrance to Tumbleweed]

    Norman Deek : Easy there.

Marshal Leigh Johnson : John, you'll be exchanging the prisoner for Bonnie in the middle of town. Keep your eyes open. I sincerely doubt these scum plan to play fair.

Norman Deek : Fair, my ass.

John Marston : [draws his gun]  You bet. Besides, Norm here's gonna be my shield, ain't ya, Norm?

Norman Deek : [chuckles nastily]  It'd be my pleasure.
