The 3rd installment is worth the wait.

The first 2 episodes are great but the last one is just superb. Ringo and George at the start tinkering around with Octopuses garden will bring a smile to your face and then when they finally play on the roof it makes you realise what a superb live band they were. The best band of all time.

Save the best till last

Three great parts but the third part was my favourite by a distance. The rooftop concert, filmed with multiple cameras, captured everything. And the producers knew there would be a visit by the old bill so had a hidden cameraman downstairs in reception. When the police, as expected, turned up with trumped up charges of disturbing the peace, the tactics of delay came into play. At least the Sargent, who arrived later, seemed to take the whole thing with a pinch of salt and let the concert run its course. And with it The Beatles rode off into the sunset.

Great job Peter Jackson. And we'll done to all those back in 1969.

Thank you for making this amazing documentary. I said it, and I am going to say it again: this is one of the best documentaries ever produced. I love it. Really love it.

Let It Be

As a fan of the Beatles that wasn't alive when all of this was happening, it was truly an amazing experience to see this. The rooftop concert is something I've always loved about the Beatles and this docuseries just made it better. It was great to see the songs being written for the first time to them being sung on that roof. Mad love and respect to everyone that helped to make this docuseries!

Rocking Finale

Warning: Spoilers
So a few more days of studio chit chat and jamming rehearsals. The day finally arrives and they go to the famous rooftop. Lennon really comes through once they are performing and the crowd reactions were great. The two confused police constables responding to the noise complaints were great, young bobbies with stern faces being held at bay for a time in the Lobby. The whole Allan Klein thing is also brought up at this time as he has approached the Four off camera that week. Good history!

Well worth the wait.

Thought it was superb apart from the bit with Yoko screaming. Thought they should have edited that bit. The way they all practised and practised and practised until they all got it right was excellent. They were the greatest band of all time in my opinion.

"I would like to go on the roof." - Ringo Starr
classicsoncall27 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The third part of this Peter Jackson directed documentary opens with Ringo Starr riffing on his song 'Octopus's Garden', and his band mates having some fun with a little old time rock n' roll, diving into 'Shake, Rattle and Roll', and Elvis's 'Blue Suede Shoes'. Linda Eastman brings her daughter Heather along, keeping company with Paul McCartney as he works on lyrics and music for the upcoming Apple Studio rooftop concert in a matter of days. Like the prior two chapters of this story, much of this one consists of the tedious back and forth between all the Beatles on best approaches to their new songs and how they'll be presented to the public. I found this to be a chore in all three segments, notwithstanding my appreciation for the Beatles and their music.

In between, we get hints as to some of the forces at work that finally broke up the band. Paul jokes about Yoko Ono's divorce, and George Harrison remarks that "... it'd be nice if any of us can do separate things as well", this no doubt expounding on his efforts to make writing contributions to the band's songs which were rebuffed by Paul in Part One. With the performance day looming closer and closer, all four Beatles provide their input, while nothing really seems cast in concrete, right up until they take up their instruments atop the Apple Studio.

The band opens with 'Get Back', singing it twice in a row, followed by 'Don't Let Me Down'. A significant amount of time was spent on writing and practicing that one, making it unusual that the song didn't appear on the 'Let It Be' album, the focus of this documentary. It was however, released as the B side of the 'Get Back' single in England and the U. S. Then the band followed with 'I've Got a Feeling', 'One After 909', and 'Dig a Pony', before reprising 'I've Got a Feeling', 'Don't Let Me Down' and 'Get Back' one more time. The mini-concert lasted just about thirty four minutes, attracting bystanders on the street, along with a pair of constables reacting to complaints from citizens for 'disturbing the peace'. Most of the folks interviewed on the street below expressed their satisfaction with the performance and their appreciation for the Beatles and their tunes. That was probably best expressed by a somewhat older gentleman who stated - "I reckon they give a bit of life to London. I like their music".
